Here's a new one on me Nice to try something from a local brewery from this side of the Irish Sea, from my local supermarket too. Cheers, Keith
-
Indeed, excellent pics and many thanks for posting, I really wanted to get to the gala but other commitments prevent me from going. Fantastic line-up this year. More pics of traction action would be most welcome! Cheers, Keith

That's a great place to be, excellent University and easy reach of Dublin for getting around, and indeed Dublin airport for cheap flights to the UK and Europe. Good choice! Cheers, Keith

I reckon the optimum year to have been born in the UK is 1953! All the benefits of a resourced NHS in the first two decades, plus good education opportunities, including no fee University education, a relatively low cost housing market in their late twenties, early retirement deals in their fifties, pensions still strong and still fit and healthy (on the whole, compared to their parents generation) to enjoy retirement. Plus lots of railway interest to enjoy as youngsters in the '50s and '60s! All the best, Keith

My LNWR version likewise runs fine on my Peco track, despite the fact it's just temporarily laid on boards and somewhat uneven! Cheers, Keith

I stand corrected, TOMORROW! Presumably not everyone subscribes to Rails emails or preordered with them, so I thought the heads up might be of interest.... Cheers, Keith
-
I've had an email from Rails today to say the BR and LMS liveried versions have now arrived and are in stock - hurrah! cheers, Keith

Hi Kevin, Gaugemaster will ship overseas, their website has information, eg "We are happy to ship an order anywhere in the world. Orders for shipping outside of the UK are charged carriage at cost, according to the weight and value of the goods ordered". Hope that helps. Cheers, Keith

In 2012 circulation of RM was 43,328 average per issue according to Abc stats, the 800th anniversary special supplement mentions a figure of over ninety thousand circulation in 1979. I too think RM is in good order, I buy it every month without fail. Cheers, Keith

Preserved stations - which ones feel most "real"?
tractionman replied to Nearholmer's topic in Preservation
Mine was always Arley when I lived in brum and had the chance to drive over for a few hours to watch the trains go by, aren't we fortunate in having so many lovely well-maintained preserved stations to choose from and enjoy, long may this continue. Hats off to all the volunteers over the years who've made it all happen. Cheers, Keith -
Hi Steve, I left Cov in 1987, but still go back to see the folks, I probably was more interested in the trains at the shop when I went in there than girls, at the youthful age I was back then! Cheers, Keith
-
Hi Alex, I reckon if you've got any shop news, including new arrivals, then this thread is a good place to post about them. Cheers, Keith
-
Brilliant, thanks very much Steve, you've answered the questions in my mind about the lost Coventry model shops I remember from the seventies : http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/69759-gone-but-not-forgotten/?p=2690435 The shop on Biggin Hall Crescent always smelt of cigarettes and reminded me when I visited it of my Grandad's house! The folks on Sewell Highway were always very welcoming and didn't mind me dithering for ages in the shop deciding what to buy for my 50p. Happy days. Cheers, Keith

yep, we've never had it so good! the RM anniversary booklet provides an interesting cross-section across the decades, the samples of layouts shown from the 1960s, '70s and '80s reveal some impressive LMS/MR modelling - was Big Four modelling more popular back then because of the demographic of modellers then who could recall the LMS/LNER/SR/GWR from the days of their youth? excellent main mag too, loads to read and a good range of scales, periods etc for the layouts/modelling featured. all the best, Keith

The NLS are working to fill in the gaps in the current coverage of the OS 25" scale sheets. Some of the historic maps are available to view as static images on the NLS website but not available as overlays. The NLS should be commended for making all this mapping publicly available for free. All the best, Keith

Days when you know why you live in the British Isles

View looking towards Corfe Castle from Kingston, taken last May while in Purbeck for the annual Swanage Railway diesel gala and beer festival, which is where I'll be heading back to this weekend. Just hope the weather is as good this year as it was last! Cheers, Keith -
I thought I'd seen a pic somewhere else and here it is on here! http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/111004-out-and-about-on-the-preservation-scene-20162017/?p=2706639 Lovely picture, lovely loco. All the best, Keith

My students' favourite source of all knowledge and wisdom (ahem) sets out some of the historic uses of tobacco, and smoking for medicinal purposes, some of which were still being pedalled in the last century by cigarette manufacturers, https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tobacco And the medical qualities of the plant are still being explored scientifically, not smoking it though! Cheers, Keith

I ordered mine from Rails, and have been running the loco in a bit, runs very smoothly now, in fact sort of glides along the track, quite elegant really! It is a miniscule more noisy than the recent LMS mogul from Bachmann, but nothing too distracting. Overall I'm really happy with the Webb tank, and the LNWR livery looks very smart. I'm also awaiting the LMS liveried version too. I've no second thoughts about having a second, and Rails are offering free tracked Royal Mail postage too. Cheers, Keith
-
She certainly does look fine in that livery http://ukrailways1970tilltoday.me.uk/Rutland_Railway_Museum_one.html Cheers, Keith

Alright for some... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-39761410 But why is this 'news'!? Cheers, Keith -
I've observed people in cars sitting there vaping away and producing so much smoke, billowing out of car door windows, that it looks like the car's on fire! All the best, Keith

Life on Mars is being repeated on Fridays at nine on Drama TV channel (Freeview). Good to have it back on the box. Cheers, Keith

Here's the view from my room window while staying at the Cardiff Sleeperz hotel: Apologies for the rubbish quality... cheers, Keith
-
Nice shot! I stayed recently in the Premier Inn in Edinburgh just a bit further along the same road as your hotel and had a great view of the station platform ends too, marvellous for watching the trains come and go. Other recommendations from me are the Sleeperz hotels at Newcastle upon Tyne and at Cardiff, both have views of the railway at the station throats, good prices too and of course very convenient for catching trains too! Cheers, Keith
