  1. Hello again Reading the (trustworthy) reports, it seems that the Tower gave an incorrect QNH which the crew accepted. It seems that - on the first approach - the crew realised something was amiss and instigated a go-around. They missed the ground by about 6 feet! Brian
  2. Hello everyone Many congratulations to Dapol and Rails on this announcement! The vehicle has been consistently Middle or High Polling in The 00 Wishlist Poll over the years. We wish Dapol and Rails every success with the project. Brian (on behalf of The 00 Poll Team)
  3. Hello John As noted, the video should be taken in context with the actual incident which was in total cloud cover. Alarms went off in the Tower and these were missed apparently. Brian
  4. Hello Lochgorm It should also be taken in context with the initial report of the actual incident at Paris. Brian
  5. Hello Lochgorm It was part of a wider CAA email which also contained the items below. Brian Safety Notice 2023/003 CAA Safety Files podcast (Episode 6)
  6. Hello everyone Interesting short video from CAA. Brian https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mW1QLgEg-gw
  7. Post deleted - trying to sort out link! Brian
  8. Hello again John & Phil 1961 Loco Rosters show a WC weekdays. On Saturdays, the loco returned from Axminster, went to Exmouth Junction shed, then worked the Surbiton-Okehampton Car Carrier forward from Exeter Central. Brian
  9. Hello John & Phil This might be one of things that happened on the railway to suit local circumstances. I have looked into the workings for many years but have never found a definitive answer. I can't find anything in the 1960 Loco Rosters. In 1954, the weekdays train was booked for a Std Class 3 2-6-2T and a WC on Saturdays. I know the photo Phil is looking at. Brian
  10. Hello Bernard Indeed! The company's models span five pages in Pat Hammond's Ramsay's British Model Train Catalogue (although Pat does make the point that it is unknown if some were ever actually made). Brian
  11. Hello Stephen I have forwarded this thread to John. Brian
  12. Hello Rob Milk tankers...crying out for some modern-day quality models! Lots of diagrams to choose from - off-centre ladder, twin tank, 2000-gallon, sloping tank and not forgetting the 6-wheel Milk Tank Trucks with Road Tanker Trailer load. Some will make more (commercial) sense than others and still provide the modeller with the variety that is often so true of the prototype. Brian
  13. Hello Phil Would it be possible to 'brace' the lamp iron with something like superglue? (Although I don't know if superglue would be suitable for the rubber!). Brian
  14. Hello Jol I am fully aware of 'statistics' and 'non-statistics' and you will notice that I used the adverbs 'broadly' and 'mainly' in my notes to (hopefully) highlight the fact that I wasn't actually presenting statistics per se. The point is taken that some forum topics will 'hide' some matters, but - equally - there are many RTR threads where people discuss models they have made. A quick look at Modelling & Musings shows a high number of modelling posts in relation to others. The 00 Wishlist Poll 2022 had 1695 voters - down from the roughly 2500 that we had traditionally attracted (possibly due in part to us not sending out loads of Press Releases due to home time constraints). The lower number of voters did not seem to affect the overall results as they have stayed broadly (that word again!) in context over the years, given that items come out and others go in. The Quirky Poll has been fairly consistent at just under 500 voters. Brian
  15. Hello everyone Spurred on by Jol's comment above, I took at look at the Forums page. This is what I found... Products & Trade Area (mainly RTR makers): 661,000 posts Cake Box Challenge: 6,000 posts Layout & Workbench Content: 813,000 posts Scale Specific: 163,000 posts Skills & Knowledge Centre: 467,000 posts Modelling, Musings & Miscellany: 243,000 posts Modeller Blogs: 455,000 posts In broad terms, that's over 2 million mainly 'modelling' posts compared to the 661,000 of the mainly RTR ones. The 00 Wishlist Poll runs in alternate years with The Quirky Poll. I know of maybe two polls that have been open for a while, run by Neal Ball on GWR subjects. At the request of two RMweb thread leaders, I and some members of The Poll Team ran some specific Mini-Polls for them in 2021. Brian
  16. Hello Jol Some statistical evidence would be welcome. Brian
  17. Hello BVMR21 According to Pat Hammond in his Ramsay's Model Train Catalogue, Bachmann re-tooled the 22xx and introduced it in 1998. The loco was first listed in The 00 Wishlist Poll 2018, where it was Middle Polling. It was Middle again in 2019 but when The Poll next ran (2022), it moved to High Polling. Brian
  18. Hello Les Thanks for writing. As I noted in an earlier post, I haven't ever been a model railway show organiser but have arranged similar types of event when I was at work. I have also posted some worked examples of how - in my view - it doesn't add much work to give fuller show details. MKMRS have shown willing (following an explanatory email from me) as have Railex (without me writing). I always support MKMRS as that is my local show (or one of them) but the Railex video has convinced me to attend whereas I probably would not have. I see your point about looking at all the layouts and learning - but I have a disabled wife who has to travel with me as she cannot be left alone. That also means that I have relatively restricted time in any exhibition, so I have to make the most of it. Travelling a couple of miles to a local show and 'not enjoying' the layouts is not much of a problem as I go to support the local clubs. But travelling an hour or more needs focus (as alluded to by Reorte above) Brian
  19. Hello everyone As noted in my earlier post, I was not in any way trying to 'discredit' the pilot; simply trying to understand something I had not seen nor heard of before. I suggest we now cease discussion but thanks for all the contributions. Brian
  20. Hello everyone If we had an ATC recording, it might throw some light on the subject. I'm not in any way trying to 'discredit' the pilot - simply trying to get to grips with something I have never seen nor heard of. I can't see for certain, but he doesn't seem to be following any yellow lines either. Brian
  21. Thanks Scottystitch and Pilotman Paragraph 2 above seems to be the relevant one, and it does say at the end: Pilots must be aware that there may be a blast hazard as the ACFT on the RWY applies power. My son has a PPL and is in touch with a number of commercial aircrew (not BA or Malaysian). One is an A350 First Officer. I asked him if would have 'queried' his Captain if he had been in that plane. He said he would, believing he did not have enough space (but understanding that it was Captain's decision). He felt that not many pilots would get that close. I wonder if paragraph 2 is really relating to 'intersection departures' - there would a very reasonable distance between planes in that situation. Brian
  22. Hello Johnster Exactly right! The 00 Poll Team has tried to make it clear on many occasions that the results are an indication of how a relatively wide range of modellers are thinking. This may - or may not - correspond with what market research makers obtain themselves via letters, email, texts, Whatsapp, Facebook and face-to-face chats at shows. The makers won't divulge their market research to us (except, perhaps, at the moment of announcement) so The 00 Poll is a reasonable method of visualising our collective thoughts. Again, we have often said that even if an item were to regularly garner, say, 10000 votes, that item will never be made unless a maker can see a probable return on investment. Brian (on behalf of The 00 Poll Team)
  23. Hello Jason The 00 Poll Team would stop running The 00 Wishlist Poll immediately if it was proven to us that The Poll causes duplication. Brian (on behalf of The 00 Poll Team)
  24. Hello Pteremy The 00 Wishlist Poll Team has done that on numerous occasions. Brian (on behalf of The 00 Poll Team)
