Network Rail trains photos
great central replied to GWRPhil's topic in UK Prototype Discussions (not questions!)
They did the same at Derby during it's remodeling a few years ago but using dedicated yellow painted vehicles, BGs if memory serves -
There is, or should be, support mechanisms provided by employers to deal with anything outside work likely to cause serious distraction and problems. However that does rely on employees acknowledging that a problem exists in the first place, which is often the biggest hurdle to overcome. If someone thinks they're above being caught it's only a matter of time.......

Best not start a 'debate' on the many and various nicknames for locos then

As I understand it, the only true 'peaks' were the original 10 named after various peaks, ie class 44 the rest were called peaks because of their similar body style although they had different innards.

All the 9Fs shown look superb apart from one small thing missing I noticed when looking around an ex Barry hulk at Butterley many years ago. I was building a DJH one at the time so made a good visual study. There are sandbox fillers on the footplate and large diameter pipes, 6" perhaps, lead down to the sandboxes between the frames, none of the models appear to have them and, to me, it emphasises the emptiness between the frames and boiler bottom. I found a decent side view of Evening Star by Googling, if there any copyright issues I will remove. https://alchetron.com/BR-Standard-Class-9F-92220-Evening-Star

Hornby class 37 TTS
great central replied to 125_driver's topic in Modelling Questions, Help and Tips
Probably, is the best I can come up with, due to there being many examples at swapmeets when the TTS 37 was first released. The Lima bodied ones were accompanied by lots of Hornby yellow 37 bodies on Lima chassis! -
For those who would rather buy things from a shop instead of contributing more to the waste packaging mountain. Yes I know they're more expensive but hardly going to break the bank at around 1p each. https://www.hobbycraft.co.uk/hemline-brass-craft-pins-450-pack/566984-1000?query=brass pins

Several hundred, I reckon, assorted railway mags. Rail Express, Rail, Railway Magazine and some modelling mags. Free for collection only from North of Nottingham. You can have the eco friendly bags as well, they've been cluttering up my garage for several years since I dismantled a friends deceased relatives layout.

I'm sure we've all got dates which mean something besides the normal birthdays, anniversaries and such so I thought a topic along the lines of the 'on this day in history ' thread for railway events but for personal stories. A search didn't bring up anything similar. Happy, sad, humorous or downright embarrassing, all are welcome. I would have started this yesterday but the forum was having a hissy fit for most of the day. To make a start: On Saturday the 23rd January 2010 I was carted off to hospital, suffering from what I thought was severe indigestion. Having arrived there I was placed in the cardiac area and waiting events when I suddenly felt very clammy and asked my son who was with me to get someone as I didn't feel any too well. Apparently my pulse rate had dropped to around 20!! I came round later in a rather noisy rough riding ambulance being transferred to another hospital as the one I had originally gone to didn't have weekend coronary care facilities. Anyway to shortcut the story I had a single stent fitted the following Monday and was discharged on the Tuesday, turning up much to people's surprise for a quiet visit to the model railway club. Being able to view the forum while in hospital provided some much needed relief from the obvious worry of my situation, although the surgeon did say that the blockage I had wouldn't have killed me. Some consolation I suppose. So here I am 12 years later and still annoying people, still working full time despite being past official retirement age and, most of the time, enjoying life. To me this is like a second birthday and reminds me I'm lucky to still be here. It also serves as a point in time to put the excesses of Christmas and the new year behind me and get back to healthier habits.

What has the Gas Works Railway done to deserve that

Overhead Warning Flashes on Rolling Stock
great central replied to KLee55's topic in UK Prototype Questions
As far as I am aware, the MSW locos, EM1s and 2s never had overhead warning signs fitted to them in quantity or possibly not at all. Someone will now come up with many photos showing such things. -
Ah right, like I said it was getting dark and the livery rather took me by surprise. Bus windows were rather steamed up as well!

I'm fairly sure there's at least one in the sidings at Great Yarmouth among the many ex Caledonian sleeper mk2s and Anglia mk3s. I passed a few weeks ago on the bus as it was getting dark but the livery is pretty distinctive and only viewable from the road side.

First ever case of a human catching bird flu in this country. Retired rail worker called Alan Gosling! Wishing him well but it seems he's more upset at losing his flock of ducks.

A regular problem at Norwich. It's amazing how many people don't know the difference between London Liverpool Street and Liverpool Lime Street. Several years ago, I watched a group of 4 leap off the train from Yarmouth and into mine, complete with a wheelchair! I did my usual pre-departure announcement adding as a final reminder ' this service does NOT, I repeat, does NOT go to London!' On stepping back to the platform I was totally unsurprised to see said group of 4 scurrying back off my train.
