  1. From Pathfinder.. ANNOUNCEMENT: THE SETTLE & CARLISLE WINTER EXPRESS SATURDAY 24 FEBRUARY 2024 Due to a change in circumstances, our original 1960's carriages from West Coast Railway Co are unavailable for this rail excursion. But fear not! We've turned this challenge into an opportunity to transport you back in time to the unforgettable blue and grey era of the 1980s. Embark on a spectacular journey featuring Southern Railway Battle of Britain Class, No. 34067 'Tangmere' pulling a rake of blue and grey coaching stock. Visually we will make fond memories of the days when 34092 'City of Wells' performed these duties, four decades ago over the same route. We extend our gratitude to Riviera Trains for their generous contribution, providing us with their carriages, enabling us to run this excursion.
  2. I shall still make the trip up - possibly this Spring. There's some interesting stuff on line once you"dig in". Thanks again.
  3. Thanks for that - I used to go for summer holidays to farming relatives at Stank House Farm near Brotton which is very close by. I remember as a small child roaming around the farm which also included parts of the old Kilton pit... One of my "to do" retirement list items is a trip up to continue roaming.... Chris H
  4. Saturday is my current plan Andy
  5. Oh yes....down by train hopefully...
  6. Our mutual friend would like you to consider both as a bare minimum....
  7. So when our mutual friend ums and arghs about how he's doing at a particular show we need to consider things more carefully rather than buy a new train because we feel sorry for him? Just saying.... C
  8. FWIW I've had a note from the organiser which includes the following information " Last year we had an attendance of 988. On Sunday we just managed to exceed that with 1003 paying adults. So we did manage to set a new club record!" Interestingly, the weather was an exhibition organisers nightmare.....Sunny, calm and dry.....and they still came...
  9. Cropper Street will be appearing at the Monmouth Exhibition on 11 February. https://www.ukmodelshops.co.uk/event/y2024/26046-MonmouthRotaryClub_Exhibition Some testing has taken place..
  10. I don't think you're alone in that...
  11. I certainly enjoy photographing the current railway.. and quite often at my local station we see a lot of youngsters enjpying their railway hobby... Chris H
  12. Weston Super Mare yesterday was absolutely rammed and with a wide age range of both genders...Oliver from Squires was very busy indeed as were other traders. I was also visited by a young lad who (with parental blessing) has visited us at Missenden and also now helps out operating our group of layouts at local shows. He asked for a list of where we'll be in the coming months and showed me some pictures of progress on his (very good) home layout. Chris H
  13. Glad you liked PMB - we had a cracking day. Those SLW locos are second to none... Chris H
  14. There was a cracking selection of layouts and we had a great day with Penmaenbach. It was also good toto see Squires - they got a fair few of my modelling pounds and seemed very busy. We caught up with a lot of old friends and generally had a good time. Thanks to Mark and all his colleagues. Hopefully I'll be asked back to a future show with another of my projects I also have to say my bacon roll at lunchtime was excellent. There are some (as yet uncaptionned) photos here (some from me and some from one of the PMB team):
  15. Penmaenbach likewise....I think I've got everything.....
