Warley NEC exhibition 23rd & 24th November 2019
Benjamin Brady replied to Chris M's topic in Exhibitions
Good Morning All, We are back now and the layout back in storage until the next show. We had a very enjoyable weekend at the show, the layout ran very well apart from the odd derailment but they can't be helped and we all suffer from that plight I am sure. It was a nice surprise when walking around the Bachmann stand to see 90128. Before long we had one running around the layout and preformed superbly all weekend. There is the jobs list to be assessed and a plan of attack made for the work to be carried out. The one problem with this layout is finding space with it spending most of its life in store. We shall be looking forward to our next outing in 2020 with the layout. However I do have to disagree with the lack or running that ikcdad witness at the show. Weaver Hill most most defiantly had trains running all weekend. We are very much a train set. In fact it's very rare we do not have a train on the front with just 4 lines and continuous running. I admit you might see the same trains do a few laps but before long there is a change coming. Mind just to show solidarity to our other operators, the layout behind which was also a roundy round layout always looked to have something moving. A few photos were taken and I shall add them as soon as possibe Benjamin -

Weaver Hill 4 Track Mainline Shrewsbury MRE 1st June 2024
Benjamin Brady replied to Benjamin Brady's topic in Layout topics
Good Morning Well that's all the stock packed for another weekend away with Weaver Hill. There have been quite a few alterations to the loco roster for this weekend though. Noticing that Euxton & Balshaw lane are there we have decided to change our location for the weekend to the East Coast. This does mean we get to take our East Coast fleet out. As the layout can be ran from 1996 - present day we have decided to show the East coast mainline though the livery changes seen over this period. What this means is that people from all generations who have grown up along the East Coast Mainline attending the show shall defiantly see something they know. You can slip back into the seat of the train and take yourself back to those long hours commuting to work or maybe a weekend break to see family and friends. Where shall you go? London for work, Edinburgh for the tattoo or York for the Races? We hope to see you there. The Weaver Hill -

Good Evening all, Well the layout has been set back up now at home and populated with the usual array of random home layout stock. As always some North East has appeared. I had a quick session with the camera this evening to snap some of the locos out and about, a long way from West Cornwall. The photos mainly focus on the remodeling of the goods yard. Benjamin

Good morning . Welcome to our next project which is somewhat of a Change of direction for ourselves. This time we have opted for BR steam in the late 50's. The layout is based on the Cornish Mainline, with many features taken from stations along the line. We have included a closed station junction station with lifted branch line and associated goods yard. This station is based on Gwinear Road. The branch being the Helston branch with the main lines bending sharply away as per prototype. On the inside of the curve we have added an Cornish engine house. This is of course very similar to how the mainline is at Scorrier. In our version of Cornish history the national trust have brought this engine house and the restoration project is just about to begin. This gives the reason for the tin shed which has been erected close by which inside (a little imagination needed here) tells the story of mining in the area and acts as a store for the NT. At the other end we see the Royal Hotel, this is copy of the one at Par which is still open today. However we have situated it on the A30. Which is starting to show the pressures of increased car ownership. We have decided once again to keep the track plan simple. The reasons for this are as simple as the track plan. We enjoy watching trains go around. The track plan is taken from Redruth when the signal box closed there. We have retained two sidings however their purposes is only to serve the local coal merchants. The layout at present is very basic. We once again fell into the trap of leaving things until the last minute. As a result we had a four week time frame to construct the layout and get it to an acceptable stage to exhibit. There is still a lot of work to do. We have plans to add signals and a back scene. Along with lots of general scenery touch ups. The layout is far from complete. The buildings are a mix on the layout from Hornby to Bachmann ready to plant to custom made laser cut buildings. The laser cutting is done though a chap at out club. Some of you may ask why there is a North East station building on the layout? Well the original concept for the layout was to be set on the Eastern Region. However like all good things early on in the project it was decided to move ourselves South West and complete maybe a lifelong idea of constructing a layout set in Cornwall. However as this is a layout to play trains on along with exhibit the NE station does not look out of place when a Q6 rattles past it. The other building that does not take its inspiration from Cornwall is the signalbox, we have decided to model this on the one at Tenby. However in our world the Cornish Mainline has been resignalled and now comes under the control of a power box at Truro. The sidings being accessed through a release on the ground frame. We hope those that did visit over the weekend enjoyed it , and can give inspiration as to what you can achieve .
