  1. Anyone converted a Farish N class to 2mm? If so how did you it? Replacement chassis?
  2. If you decide to get rid of it let me know. I'm on the lookout for something reasonably cheap to try and 2mm
  3. Thanks for the tip on the little vice. I have a small vice but I could really do with a smooth jawed version. That and some diddy reamers! Has anyone got a picture of how the vacuum cylinder fits on the sample kit? Appears to sit at a slight angle as it doesn't want to sit flat. Hence the fold line I'm guessing. The instructions aren't too clear on that, just says attach it It's going together well though! Nice design I must say
  4. Are there any particular tools that are useful for 2mm and may not be in a regular kit used for 4mm plus?
  5. Sorry for being a bit dim here... But do you mean 2mm scale models on standard N gauge track, or N gauge profile rails to 2mm track gauge? Lovely work btw
  6. Thanks for the help everyone Should have a complete kit soon. I'll be sure to post the results
  7. I picked up a 2mm start pack from a guy who decided that 2mm isn't for him (fair play!) containing a mineral wagon kit and sample of track. The kit is complete although I'm missing the wheel bearings and three buffers. Is it possible to buy these before joining the association to see how I get on?
  8. Some very useful replies here already I would assume then if it was just a case of them being plain fronted rather than the available fluted I could flood them with a tiny bit of solder and gently file back? Looking at the Farish EP in the latest CC mag the coupling rods look huge compared to 2mm. Those well tanks really are superb little models!
  9. Oh dear... Better join and raise the colours then Thanks.
  10. Flirting with 2mm and looking at some of the easy starting conversions. Are there any plans for a drop in conversion for the Farish C class when it's released? Should be a simple six coupled job like the pannier That would swing it. Kent's my flavour
  11. I was talking about members only. Not the N gauge market in general. If there are for arguments sake 1000 CC members, and 900 have indicated they model steam, then I would imagine CC releases would be geared towards that.

Cheers peeps. I think it's where it attaches to the slide rod behind everything. So I think I would need to remove a few bits to get to it.

Hello chaps. I have a Dapol 2MT from the first batch. Nice model. However it has thrown a rod on one side. I suspect that the quartering may have shifted as well. Before I dismantle it has anyone tried rehanging the rods on a Dapol model? They look like they are riveted together.
  14. Whilst I agree on the subject choice, and would buy one, I think the 2BIL would be a better commercial choice sales wise. Simply because if you can accommodate one 4 car unit, you can accommodate two 2 car units
  15. I joined because I wanted the wagons. However... Now I'm a member I wouldn't leave. The magazine is very well put together with Interesting subjects and high quality photos. The free catalogue is nice and the free wagon is a bonus. Even if you don't want the models it's worth a join You can spend the £28 (I think?) one night down the pub!
  16. I'm a fan of southern models, but I would have had an XP64 47 in N. Very nearly bought the 00 model! As it stands I've had a couple of sets of SECR wagons and a set of WW1 tankers.
  17. That's true. However the SDJR 4F sold out so perhaps there are more members after steam?
  18. Ok... How about an N gauge 2BIL? Two vehicles to tool, and option for dummy sets to tow and a few liveries to choose from. Ok... Hornby have a 00 model available but there is a gap for a short complete O gauge train. You could sell them individually powered, in packs as one dummy and one powered and individual dummy sets. And if you was feeling brave I'm sure the 00 model could be taken on. I'm sure an N gauge crowd funder would fly once the decks clear. We're crying out for a proper southern electric unit!
  19. It's certainly something I've noticed. I do wonder if the reason the fully lined out C class hasn't been announced in the main range is that it will be a collectors club edition in N. Or an N version in SECR grey like the CC model in 00. But the modern 47's and such could easily be run in both scales. Even in a reduced number for N. Mind you... When you join you have that interests form to fill in. It's possible (purely among members) that there is lack of indicated interest.
  20. As a side note a lot of the old Farish 00 coaching stock is prone to warping.
  21. Some old coal wagons I've had have warped slightly. Just add a load to push the sides back out. Or in your case see if the roof comes off and add a block in the middle to ease the walls out.
  22. I build model railways to escape reality. I couldn't give a toss if brexit effects the price or not. I'll be buying a couple of birdcage sets and a C class without it being a political statement It's still cheaper than the 00 gauge set with the convenience of being packaged in one box.
  23. Thanks for that. That answers some questions.
  24. I was wondering about that. Mind you... The DCC western Pullman set in 00 is over £800!
  25. I think I'll buy one to send to Dapol, "ref shrink this!"
