  1. The locomotive looks a lot more like Flying Scotsman than Hogwarts Castle! 😲 🐉🤷🏼‍♀️
  2. No way! 😀 This is an older Margate made Tri-ang Railways chassis, the later models have a different pick up arrangement. It's never been made in China... I don't believe the description either, "little use", "mint". It's an old model. Unboxed... And someone, their "engineering department" perhaps, have polished the buffer heads, and the wheels....so not as manufactured, so not mint. 🤷🏼‍♀️
  3. Yes...🤔 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/graham-farish-n-gauge-coach-0696-/225017217137 Don't you just love a detailed description? 😉😀 🐉🙋🏼‍♀️
  4. Rails does it again! Wrong! 🤷🏼‍♀️ Not the original box for this wagon, by a looong time. The chassis is likely the Wrenn version of the last Hornby Dublo "Open Brake Gear" cast metal chassis, that has a hand brake handle. The original Hornby Dublo cast metal chassis, with a web behind the brake gear, has no hand brake handle at all. The wagon has the Tri-ang Hornby MK3 couplings...as used by Wrenn... But I'm not sure about the Disk wheels... (Rails Photo...they have something on the lens causing a black mark!) So most likely a Wrenn issue. The box, on the other hand is a Hornby Dublo pre 1964, less common overstickered "Export" label box. .(Rails Photo...they have something on the lens causing a black mark!) The difference between the UK and Export models being that the Peco type couplings on UK issues are attached with rivets, whereas the Export models have the coupling attached by a machine screw. A case where the box is possibly more desirable to a collector than the wagon! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hornby-DUBLO-SD6-4865-SAXA-SALT-WAGON-/133830706029 Apart from some wagons that were put together from Wrenn parts from Basildon, and sold in Wrenn boxes, Dapol produced three series of wagons based on the Wrenn versions of the Hornby Dublo wagons:- WR1 Series: Original Wrenn Basildon produced and printed body. Wrenn type Die Cast Chassis. Dapol plastic wheels. Dapol plastic couplings. Dapol wagon box. WR2 Series: Original Wrenn Basildon produced and printed body. Dapol Plastic Chassis. Dapol plastic wheels. Dapol plastic couplings. Dapol wagon box. WR3 series: Dapol produced and printed body. Dapol Plastic Chassis. Dapol plastic wheels. Dapol plastic couplings. Dapol wagon box. https://www.hattons.co.uk/228120/dapol_wr3_01_u_wrenn_range_salt_wagon_saxa_pre_owned_imperfect_box/stockdetail After the sale of the Wrenn company, Dapol continued to make wagons based on the original Hornby Dublo SD6 body tooling. Not surprisingly, confusion reigns, wether by accident or intention to deceive... With Hornby Dublo, Wrenn, and Dapol using the same tooling... And Dapol issuing various types of chassis, from old stock cast metal Wrenn chassis, through to their latest NEM coupling equipped moulded plastic chassis, all with the HD SD6 body tooling. 🤔 🐉🙋🏼‍♀️ Heavily edited to correct my mistake, in thinking that all of the Hornby Dublo (and therefore Wrenn) diecast chassis had no hand brake handles... The last type of Hornby Dublo diecast chassis, with the open brake gear does in fact have hand brake handles! 🤷🏼‍♀️
  5. OK... I've just tried the messages button on eBay.co.uk, using the Google Chrome browser, on the same Android device... I'm getting the same thing... Click on messages, reloads the same front page. 🤷🏼‍♀️ So, it's not just you then. 🙂 🐉🙋🏼‍♀️
  6. Possibly a pile of crumbling Mazac in a box? Who knows the secret of the Graham Farish Box? 😉😀 🐉🙋🏼‍♀️
  7. We are using the eBay app on Android... Everything works normally. No fingerprint required... 🐉🙋🏼‍♀️
  8. Not so surprising, as the film's used the real Olton Hall! 😉😀 Though some think that the film's should have actually used a Castle Class loco, as the film loco is named Hogwarts Castle, not Hogwarts Hall...🤷🏼‍♀️ 🐉🙋🏼‍♀️
  9. Some Tri-ang Railways NP, Non Printed, wagons, and two different colour and specification Clockwork "Top Tanks". All were acquired in one lot, and are thought to be from maybe two train sets? Locomotives. Brick Wagons. Horse Box, Oil Tank Wagon, and Container Wagon. Old Time Caboose.
  10. The Wills Track cleaning wagon is said to be based on one converted to clean the running rails of the incline from Folkstone Harbour to the main line I think it was an ex SECR wagon. There were two handles, like the hand brake handles on some tenders, that were designed to plug into the two holes in the wagon floor, one above each tube. These were mainly for looks. At least in some cases, a crew figure was also included! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OO-Gauge-Railway-Wills-metal-track-cleaning-wagon-/325198616047 The two side parts, outside of the two tubes, represent the brushes on the real wagon, that scrubbed the top of the running rails clean, to help with locomotive adhesion on the incline. The tubes are designed to hold filters meant for hand rolled cigarettes. Boxes of these filters are available, but there are a few different diameters... The filters should be an interference fit. The wagon body, if still "watertight" could have the track cleaning fluid poured in, flowing through the two holes (handles removed) into the filters. Otherwise, the fluid can be put onto the bottoms of the filters. The idea is that the track cleaning wagon is pushed by a locomotive, not pulled. The Wills wagon was available ready made, in a printed box (we have some in our collection). There were different versions made for Hornby Dublo and Tri-ang Railways (T.C 1), with different Peco wheels and white metal Couplings. Tri-ang Railways. T.C.1. (Internet image. No working link) Hornby Dublo. (possibly T.C.2) There is also a version with a peg coupling that I have seen... The peg would probably fit into the 'loop' of a Peco/Hornby Dublo/ Trix/ Later Playcraft coupling. It was also available as a kit. https://www.hattons.co.uk/376690/wills_kits_wktc_po_track_cleaning_wagon_kit_pre_owned_like_new/stockdetail https://www.hattons.co.uk/166132/kitbuilt_kb316_u_wills_finecast_track_cleaning_wagon_kitbuilt_detailed_with_gw_engineering_decals/stockdetail The "brushes" and tubes with cigarette filters were copied by Meccano Ltd for the Hornby Dublo Track Cleaning Wagon, based on the diecast 16 Ton Mineral Wagon. We have an original one of these in our collection. Reproduction Dublo Track Cleaning Wagons have also been made. http://www.tccincinnati.com/dublo/TrackCleaner.htm See also this other thread... 🐉🙋🏼‍♀️
  11. AHH... But the coaling stage is boxed! 😉😀 It looks like some bits from the coaling stage are in the ash plant photo...🤔 🐉🙋🏼‍♀️
  12. I think that you are correct... Graham Farish N Gauge 64XX loco with early crest. 6417. https://www.hattons.co.uk/61118/graham_farish_371_986_class_64xx_0_6_0_pannier_tank_6417_in_br_black_with_early_emblem/stockdetail Paper print out from Hattons website shews Dapol O Gauge 57XX with late crest. 9669. https://www.hattons.co.uk/448197/dapol_7s_007_007_class_57xx_0_6_0pt_pannier_9669_in_br_black_with_late_crest/stockdetail The description in the listing is for the O Gauge loco. The circle around the price hints that this was the purchase price, but it is for a different Locomotive...🤔
  13. A previous thread on the Brick Wagon...
  14. Later Canadian catalogue pictures shew the red London Brick printed wagons ...🤔
  15. The Brick wagon, without the buffers, was also drafted into the Transcontinental Series... https://tri-ang.weebly.com/1971-catalogue.html
  16. There was a brick load made for the Bogie Brick wagon. As far as I know, this was only originally available with the wagon, under a different R. Number, R.240, to the empty version, R.219. The brick wagon was also made in a pinky Salmon colour without printing for use in starter, mostly clockwork, sets. Some wagons moulded in this colour were printed, and sold... Top: R.219NP "Salmon" colour plastic. Bottom: R.219NP Red/Brown colour plastic. Later issues were, in keeping with the "Bright Colours" theme of the time, made in bright red with "London Brick" branding. There were variations. On some, the black was left off, so the underframe is also red... Unprinted versions of the bright red wagons were also used in some starter sets I believe... This is interesting.. http://publictransportexperience.blogspot.com/2015/07/Hornby-trix-triang-and-bricks.html?m=1 A model upgrade... https://srmg.org.uk/bricking-it
  17. No problem. 🙂 There was an error in the original post, that was corrected in a later post, but the original wasn't edited until today! 🤷🏼‍♀️ The wadding is NOT Gun Cotton. It is some kind of fireproof material. Sorry... my error entirely. I had heard that it was a type of fire resistant wadding, used with guns. 2 plus 2, in this case, made 6! It has also been suggested that it may be similar to the filling used in the old “petrol” ( lighter fluid) lighters? One thing I have noticed is that it can char or scorch if not kept oiled... 🐉🙋🏼‍♀️
  18. Coincidence... The Bachmann Times (Bachmann Collectors Club Magazine) Summer 2022 issue, received today, has a feature on Conflats and containers, but only the Conflat A and A and B type covered containers, as made by Bachmann... The article has a photo of a BK type container in Tri-ang livery.
  19. I wonder if any of the magazines will even review a wagon. Most of the reviews seem to be Locomotive models...🤔 It may well be a generalisation...but it does sometimes seem that a lot of people are Locomotive focused. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Wagons are not as "fashionable" as locomotives, coaching stock comes next, lowly wagons....🤷🏼‍♀️ 🙂
  20. The problem with 123, is that the motor is in the boiler, and that fillet is covering the motor, the magnet end of the original motor....and the newer motor and wiring is in there too... Painting the fillet black is an option...but it has to be done carefully. Easier on the old models. The decoration is better on the more recent models...more lining, number on the buffer beam, etc...
  21. As the new Hornby model has the container number BK8900B, the same number as the original 1963 Tri-ang Railways model, it should be the same type of container as in the photo in Pat Hammond's book. The photo shews one Conflat A loaded with a Tri-ang container, but also, to the left of the photo, the door end of another Tri-ang container. This is actually BK8900B, as the real containers had the container number painted on the door end, as well as the side. The non door end is not shewn. So, the door end decoration on the Hornby container is wrong, for the period of the prototype photo, whatever the actual construction of the container. This leads me to suspect the veracity of the decoration of the non door end... At least the actual model has a more correct container number than the original Hornby pre release artwork. This shews a BD container number, and BD type containers had side doors, as well as doors in one end! The Conflat actually supplied also differs from that artwork. Lots of small details in the lettering are different. The Conflat is fitted with the original type of Airfix Railway System clip in coupling mounts. Not NEM pockets. Hornby R8099 Coupling Assembly couplings fit these mountings, and the head is of the now current Narrow tension lock coupling size. A good upgrade. https://uk.Hornby.com/products/coupling-assemblies-pack-10-r8099 A shame that they don't come as standard by now, they have been available for years now! Pre Release Artwork. Model as supplied. (Not the best lighting.🤷‍♀️) EDIT: Coincidence...The Bachmann Times (Bachmann Collectors Club Magazine) Summer 2022 issue, received today, has a feature on Conflats and Containers... The article has a photo of a Tri-ang BK Container! 🙂
  22. I agree about that darned crate load... We have one, the deck has a few scars from where we carved away the well attached crate! I did hear that more recent Hornby versions come with a plastic mounting bracket, that the crate clips onto. Apparently the bracket is supplied fitted I to the crate, but not fixed to the Lowmac deck. Instead, a double sided adhesive pad is supplied, for the user to attach the bracket to the Lowmac deck if required. I haven't actually seen one of these though, it would need checking...
  23. We "pre ordered" our Tri-ang Conflat from Hornby, in January 2021, to hopefully guarantee getting one. (Reference the tier system...) We have the original 1963-1971 models, so this will go in with them. 🙂 A side effect of this has been that, due to the long lead time (over 1 year) the price has risen at other retailers, but we have paid the original price at the time of our "pre order". The wagon arrived safely. The boxed wagon was wrapped in bubble wrap, then loosely in thick brown paper as padding, in a substantial shipping box, with the paperwork. Delivery by DPD. Delivered as stated, to the correct place. 🙂 Other's mileage may vary, of course...
  24. Here it is. Thanks for the link. 🙂 Hornby have a Dean fixation! The real loco has nothing to do with Mr. Dean.😉
  25. A link to a photo of a real BD type container...with side doors. https://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/bcontainer/h6C7F14DB#h68c08f7e
