  1. Oh my! What a loco ! Once I've broken my fear of brass work, I'll be having a crack at the 8750 type following your build ! Great Western
  2. Progress report from observations in South Wales and Bristol area. New signal gantires are being erected over the Xmas break at Cardiff Central station, the old signals being repositioned onto the new posts. Cardiff road bridge (Newport) is progressing well it seems, Somerton road bridge (Newport) ready for lifting out over the Xmas brea, huge crane onsite since the 22nd. Contractors have been digging circa 6x6 holes in the platforms at Newport station since the start of December overnight, then back filling them with Tarmac. I'm guess for OHL piles ? Piled bases are in place on both sides of line with no (obvious) gaps between Llanwern West and Llanwern East inlets. Both new footbridges around Undy and Magor complete, work to remove the long steel bridge at the west end of the old yard at STJ is cracking on. The footbridge at STJ is now open, minus disabled ramps, the old bridge is completely gone now. The former "tunnel" that allowed access to Caldicot station has been removed in full and replaced with a proper concrete bridge. Piling bases are in the ground (with gaps) from Ableton Lane tunnel to Patchway tunnels. No work as yet to remove or replace the footbridges at Pilning or Patchway. OHL compete and wires up at Stoke Gifford IEP depot. Various worksites are in place now along the Filton four tracking worksite, from Filton station down to Temple Meads. Great Western

  8. Hi PAD, Your thread and efforts have pushed me over the edge to attempt this kit myself ! However, I have never, ever built a kit, let alone a brass one! Could you provide a list of tools I'll need to produce this one please? I'm looking to model a rather knackered National Coal Board loco in the end, which scheme it yours destine to become ? Regards Great Western

  18. South Wales Update: Shrub clearance ready for pile marking out taking place around Ebbw Junction (Newport) towards Marshfield. At least 20 piles counted on both side of the mainline fully or partly driven along the Llanwern straight. Small piling base set up at the Llanwern end of East Usk yard. Shrub clearance around the old UP yard at Severn Tunnel junction and marking out of pile locations both sides. Likewise on the Welsh cutting down towards the tunnel. English side at least 15 fully or partly driven piles around Pilning towards Patchway Tunnels, several piles in the chess ready to go in. Great Western
  19. They tend to deal with hard confirmed fact I think....watch their site in the next week I reckon. Great Western
  20. Thinking further is another one at Weston Super Mare on the Tamper siding at the Bristol end, and another one at Bridgwater on the CEGB headshunt. I'll try and get some pictures this afternoon of the Bristol area ones, I'm not down Weston/Bridgwater way until next week. Great Western
  21. Tower Models seem to be the centre for information on the Dapol issues to be honest, hence why they have my order. Great Western
  22. Its only a model train but.......... We are told that models are on the boat due to arrive this month, and early next for the second batch. Now it seems they haven't even left China? Or have they reached Dapol in the UK and been found to be damaged during shipping? There are much more important things in life sure, but we are customers (maybe) and deserve clear and accurate information. If brought a new car I wouldn't expect being messed about with delivery dates being chopped and changed almost weekly. I've got circa £350 tied up with these models so it would be nice to know what is going on and when I'm to expect them. I was working to early September now it looks like Xmas maybe ? They better be bloody worth it Dapol ! Great Western
