  1. Delete your FaceBook account completely by logging-in to your account on a computer and requesting it be deleted. Despite what it says about a few days, don't log into your account again as if it has not yet been deleted it will just re-activate.
  2. This type of scam has been around for a long time now. Neither BT or any of the other companies will ever call you in this way. Either put the phone down immediately or if you are so minded, tell 'em to **** off! And . . . if you get one of those calls that asks you to "Press 1" or something similar, NEVER do that as you may be making a call to a Premium Rate or International number and will get a large charge on your bill!
  3. You are paying way over the odds. Renegotiate your contract. We pay BT £52/month for Line Rental, Broadband and two BT mobile SIMs with unlimited calls.
  4. I do not think that is the case. Running up a debt and showing the ability to pay it off is the way a credit rating is improved.
  5. Absolutely agree. My Debit Card stays in a drawer at home and rarely sees the light of day unless I need to withdraw cash from an ATM.
  6. Never had a problem with that with any of the cards I have had over the years . . .
  7. British Gas is only ever about as much use as a chocolate boiler!
  8. Ah, now I understand . . . I think the offcut may be just the LEDs, so you probably would need resistors in the circuit.
  9. Cut off? Can you explain what you mean, please? John
  10. Pretty much everything inside the set had been changed to no avail. See my other post . . . John
  11. In this case it was the pile of junk my neighbour unfortunately had. I say had, because it has now been replaced with a brand-new Panasonic which works like a dream. The Scamscum had been back to John Lewis' workshop a number of times on top of several on-site visits by an engineer before they finally admitted defeat. They wanted to give him a similar set, but he stuck out and got the Panasonic instead. John
  12. Sorry, I know this is like "shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted" but, having helped friends to sort out wiring issues on their DCC layouts, I have learned the hard way to test with a multimeter as each piece of wiring is added, rather than after a whole board or and entire layout has been wired. With one problem, it took almost an entire day of unsoldering joints to trace a short . . . and almost inevitably it was in one of the last pieces of track to be isolated where the fault was finally found. John
  13. You'd probably do much better for answers if you posted this in the DCC section. If you ask nicely Andy might move it for you . . .
  14. You don't need any fancy kit. The Gaugemaster Prodigy Advance2 will do the job! See post #2 above . . . the information in that link is solid gold and all you need. IMHO it is a good idea to turn off DC operation if you never intend to use it as DC operation being active is sometimes attributed as the cause for uncontrolled runaways. John
  15. It probably does. My neighbour's new-ish Scamscum TV randomly goes into a re-boot cycle, erases all the program setup and then turns itself off. Smart? Don't think so
  16. The immensely time-wasting Windows machine referred to in my original post was bought as a Windows10 machine by my daughter and son-in-law who are both in their 40s and are not the sort of people to run junk software of the kind referred to. The only additional software on the machine was Office365 and Firefox to give a decent browsing experience. Their machine fell over with almost every Windows10 update and mirrors the experience my son-in-law has seen in his workplace where the IT staff seemed to be fighting a running battle to keep the machines operational and eventually ceased all Windows10 updates several months back, before re-imaging every machine with an older build of Windows10 to get things under control. Call buying a Mac "chequebook computing" if you like, but the reality I have seen in over twenty years of running my own business working with Macs in the graphics and printing industries is that the reliability of Macs in general and macOS in particular is very high indeed. My clients collectively owned about 1700 Macs between them and for most of them, I was their sole It support. Comparing specifications of Mac and PC hardware and making price comparisons on that basis is about as effective as comparing chalk with cheese. What these comparisons always fail to understand is that the hardware is only part of the issue. What really should be the basis for comparison is the difference between Windows and macOS which has a profound effect on how hardware of a given specification will perform and the cost of ownership over a given period, not just the initial cost of purchase. John
  17. Peace at last! Instead of the phone ringing with almost predictable regularity, with my daughter on the other end saying, "Dad, the PC won't . . . ," I have just experienced the best month of modelling time I have been able to enjoy for quite some time. How has that been achieved? No, my daughter and son-in-law have not been on a month-long cruise. I stuck my hand in my pocket and bought them a refurbished Apple iMac for Christmas. I am now finally free of the endless loop of re-fixing their fairly new WIndows10 PC and its constant problems! John (Edited to correct spelling.)
  18. Top favourite . . . News presenter Kylie Pentelow
