The old Nellie/Connie/Polly could be relatively easily hacked into a reasonable representation of an LSWR C14, though the chassis needed a lot of work!
I can't see that the new offering can be converted into anything sensible, but wait to hear why I am wrong.....

I have aspirations (and started) on Singleton (ex LBSCR) which also requires a large number of horse boxes for race days - a number of SR constituent ones gathered up so far, plus a couple of NE examples, but I think the sands of time will run out before it ever gets close to completion!
But thanks for the inspiration.....
Cheers

Hi,
Many thanks, for that - I see the track bed is thicker - is that 9mm or 12mm ply?
I must try and find my copy of Barry Norman's book - I'm rather worried that I've left it about 10 years too late to get on with my project!
Cheers

Hi,
What thickness & depth of plywood did you use for the various elements of the baseboards - I would like to use this style of construction for my projected layout if I ever get around to it!
Cheers

Hi,
That's not a Westinghouse pump, but Mr Wainwright's steam reverser (or possibly Mr Stirling's!) , though they do look very similar - the SECR was a vacuum braked line....
But very nice anyway - wish I could line out a loco as well as that!
Cheers

Just a thought - having got conducting wheels, did you consider going down the split frame route?
Best wishes

Sorry to display my ignorance, but where/when was this show?
-
Ooo - I like the connection across from No 3 road to the loco facilities on the original - I bet that restricted the fixed wheel base of the engines they could use!
Trying to remember if I ever used Holborn Viaduct back in the 70s - I can remember walking through the concourse....
Nice inspiration for a compact layout....

Ooh! Don't think I have seen that particular image (used in your header) of "Bodiam" at Rolvenden before..... nice!

I seem to recall that Keysers did a version of the LCDR/SECR covered van? - I have a couple hiding away somewhere......

Mmm, just thinking the sentinel would be good in 16mm NG using the nylon chains (from Branchlines) like wot I used on my 1904 Pickering steam railcar in 7mm scale
On dear, I mustn't start yet another project......

Hi,
Here's the couple of photos I mentioned - I'm not certain where I got them from - I made copy negs probably 50 years ago! - They were copied from photos that came either from Michael Pope, who was the laboratory assistant at Rye Grammar School and lived near Doleham halt (I believe his mother had some connection with the railway) or from the proprietor of Landgate Cameras in Rye , Robert de st Croix.
cheers

Sorry, no idea if "Mercedes" is relevant or not! - it was in the same wallet of photos as the others, so included it for completeness - I have a couple others of a vertical boiler engine with chain linked wheels which I think is Darwell Reservoir, can scan those as well if you like...
Best wishes

I am tempted to buy one... ..
-
My inclination would be, definitely use it, but in hidden sections or fiddle yard......
-
both the LSWR and the LBSCR each had 2 very similar "plate glass wagons" - something rather different to stimulate conversation, if run at an exhibition!

A huge magnet!
Looks like a Hornby Dublo Ringfield one!

Yep, a narrow slot, just 9 mm wide. It means that the line of the bottom of the boiler is about right when viewed from the side since it is not perfectly round but drops a tiny bit. It is enough to fool the eye into thinking it is round.
I'll take a pic when the primer is dry.
That's a good idea, I might "borrow" it when I get round to my "Gladstone" (the LBSCR one, not the "Oh, Mr Porter" one.....)

Hi Tom,
My posting was no critism of your model - the etched kit was what was available at the time - it's not the easiest of kits to build and I followed advice to "slit" up the corner pillars & solder them up, as I was told it was almost impossible to fold the etch on the corners!
3D printing has opened up a whole new chapter in modelling, which certainly gets results far quicker than I do...
Best wishes

Hi,
here's my KESR Ford set, built many years ago from the Taugem kit and still awaiting painting!
I also have a set of Shefflex parts from Worsley Works that i have started on....

Just a thought - having gone to the trouble of putting a piece of double sided pcb material in there, did you not consider making it "structural" and "splitting" the frames, then you wouldn't have needed to bother with the pickups?

It would be nice to see the E1 and D1 builds. I am trying to scratch build an E1 in 4mm but getting the information is challenging
Hi,
The best printed sources are D L Bradley, Locomotives of the LBSCR, part 2 (RCTS) and J H Russel, Pictorial Record of Southern locomotives (OPC) - this has weight diagrams for all SR locos and drawings for some.
There are a couple of Locomotive Illustrated that have photos of E1s ( I can check which editions if you are interested)
I would not be surprised if there are works drawings in the collection at NRM, but as I'm building kits, haven't bothered with that source.
The Brighton Circle is a mine of information, and they have a Facebook page that gives their details or see http://www.lbscr.org/History/Circle/index.html
certainly worth looking at the "modellers digest" (download link on the circle's website)
I also have an SE Finecast E1 and D1 which are both almost complete (photo attached)
Hope that helps
