  1. The Bachmanns will most probably still arrive well in advance of me building my Mallard 3 coach set that was bought in the last century and will definitely have a better paint finish than I can achieve!(but no conflict anyway as they are different coaches....)
  2. Yes, RAF Warmwell was a real place - almost 30 year ago we lived in Crossways, nr Dorchester Dorset, and Crossways was developed on the site of RAF Warmwell.
  3. Do you mean the little jig for drilling out the pin point axles to allow you to fit brass bearing cups?
  4. Hi hopefully you are sorted by now - unfortunately at the time of your posting we were in the Southern Hemisphere for November, December and January I couldn't shift the gear on the motor and ended up using a nut splitter to remove(destroy!) the gear whilst leaving the shaft intact Cheers Richard
  5. Yes, those O gauge Terriers are irresistibly - give in, you know you want one - I did, and the EM project is now on the back burner!
  6. The scenery is absolutely stunning down the West Coast of New Zealand, just a pity it has to rain so much to make it that lush! I could just imagine the "haul road" to Westport Lime as a steam hauled 3' 6" gauge line - would have been much nicer than those overgrown tipper trucks!
  7. Good luck with your model - this time last year we were driving up (slowly) from Queenstown to Picton (then on from Wellington to Auckland) we had an overnight stop at Cape Foulwind (Omau Settlers Lodge Motel) and a very nice meal at The Bay House. Hope you got space to incorporate some "crazy" features like the single carriageway/railway line bridge and the line across the middle of a roundabout! Best wishes Richard
  8. and now for something completely different.... 1904 Pickering Steam railcar from the Steam and Things kit.....
  9. Hi Dave, Looking at your first photo, your baseboards look interesting - are they individual"trolleys"? - any more details available? Many thanks Richard
  10. Resistance is futile, you will assimilated! I gave in to temptation and bought the Dapol Terrier in KESR blue livery (Bodiam) - currently building a Steam and Things kit for the Pickering steam railcar to keep it company on a small Edwardian era KESR "might have been" layout
  11. Although only in EM, I built the double slip for my layout first, on the premise that if I could build that, I could build all the "easier" trackwork....
  12. ready for the paintshop
  13. At last a sensible use of some dumb bell weights - other usage can lead to personal injury!
  14. Oh Dear! It was meant as a Christmas (2015) present to myself with the intention of a display case on the mantelpiece, but has "morphed" into another project - Plan "C" - an Edwardian KESR "might have been".... A couple of old baseboard frames in the garage and some doodling on Templot ..... watch this space
  15. as they say "here's one I made earlier" (probably 10 years ago!) Wisbech Tramway bogie coach returned by the "customer" so I can match the paint on the 4 wheeler, and ..... "could you build the tram loco as well?"
  16. Persevere - Templot is a great tool, but you have to put the effort in to learn how to use it - the trouble is that as we (in general) don't do many layouts, you forget by the time you come round to the next one! Anyway, I am absolutely certain I couldn't have planned and built all the point work for my layout without Templot. Now just to build the baseboards!
  17. has anyone managed to assemble up the railings for these vehicles without losing the top rail and having to add it back in using .5mm wire? asbestos fingers are helpful!
  18. All wheels on the D1 now! Lot of fettling required and some adjustment to get the chassis sitting level, but it least it's progress!
  19. Lovely - especially the damp look in the bottom of the pit - I really need a 45' for my layout and am trying to decide whether to scratch build or compromise on either the 42' or 50' available from LRM.
  20. Finally getting round to fitting the wheels to my D1 (ex LBSCR 0-4-2) just need to assemble the gearbox/motor mount and fit the centre pair of wheels
  21. Oh dear! Is 7mm scale addictive? I've bought myself an O gauge Dapol Terrier and have a nasty feeling that the 4mm scale projects may get abandoned!
  22. My son-in-law's father sent me this picture of a footbridge that he had with his model railway. Can anyone identify who made it?
  23. I put all my stuff away in the loft whilst we went to Australia and new Zealand for 3 months, now I find the borrowers have had my 10BA taps.......
