  1. Lead roof flashing is a good source - I collected all the odd bits the builders dropped whilst they were doing our extension.
  2. I've just bought the Gordon Gravett book on grasslands, puddles etc, which I think will be helpful - I do wish it had a bit more on rivers though.....
  3. Apologies, I didn't spot that there were separate H1 and H2 threads at the time, but hopefully bother will eventually appear in the B 3-digit guise, but not holding my breath!
  4. Hi, I was recently given this plastic cutter - can anyone advise me on the voltage/current it requires, as I don't have the original power supply for it cheers Richard.
  5. well, I tidied the workbench today - wonder how long it will stay that way? Brighton Single (EB Models Dieppe/Drayton kit) progressing well - being built in EM gauge and bound for Midhurst.
  6. Nice coverage of Bruce Hunt's model of Bere Alston, even if the film crew did insist on wrong line working and a rather odd train formation - they could have just bought him a Sprinter...
  7. Funny that, neither do I! (but if you don't say it, they might think they can use it for free, and I don't get my state pension for a few years yet) ps - tounge firmly in cheek!
  8. Apologies if this has been said already, but having just found this thread I am not going to wade through 10 pages of contributions. For what it's worth, the contrived nature of the whole thing put me off. Railway modelling can hardly be considered a competitive sport and trying to turn it into one for entertainment purposes made me wonder - 'just what's going on here?' I don't think the programme does anything positive for the hobby, but then sadly I don't think that was the intention. A far more positive spin was the appearance of Bruce Hunt's Bere Alston on "walking Britain's Lost Railways" (also on channel 5) I would suggest that an interesting TV programme could be made with a "then and now" approach, visiting real, possibly no longer, railway locations and comparing them with the model representation - Rolvenden (Robin Gay), Weston Clevedon and Portishead (Andrew Ullyot) Retford (Roy Jackson) Leamington Spa (Pete Waterman) are a few that spring to mind. You could mix in railway/social history with model research and construction techniques Any TV channels want to buy my idea/format? Cheers Richard
  9. There's also the ACE models kit for the 'K' and probably a few Blacksmith/Mallard ones still out there to build.....
  10. Lovely work - I can't remember if I I asked before but what thickness of ply do you use?
  11. I would love a simplex in OOn12 for my Rye and Camber Tramway layout, but think it is beyond my constructional capabilities - the Nonneminster Victoria was quite a challenge (and not finished yet!)
  12. If you want some good news, try this link...... http://www.bluebell-railway.co.uk/bluebell/locos/atlantic/latest.html
  13. Those look nice - I will need some 4mm signal box window frames - what do they require in terms of artwork to produce these?
  14. Well past the time to replace the bit in my 60 watt Solon iron! managed to get it apart, by destroying the old bit back together and working and Plan B, still there if needed for the future....
  15. an HO model, built from a kit many years ago, passing across the workbench for some TLC, after some unsupervised attention from the owner's grandson - the owner also has a half share in a real one that runs on a preserved line in the UK. In the background, the tender from an EBM Dieppe/Drayton kit is taking shape - this will masquerade as 172 "Chichester" for the customer.
  16. Apologies in advance, as I only dip in and out of RMweb, and have lost the overall thread on this and the H1 thread! Can anyone clarify - have Bachmann actually produced a Brighton Atlantic model that punters have been able to buy? If so, what exactly is available, if not, can any one clarify their current proposals for H1 and H2 variants? Yours Confused of Heswall
  17. Hi Chris, Many thanks - currently on the other side of the world from my bookshelf so couldn't check, but it looks like I should hang on to my pennies and wait to see if Bachmann issue either the H1 or H2 in SR livery with the B - 3 digit number format - at least it saves me committing money I haven't got on a pre-order! By the way, was the N class mogul ever issued in A-3digit number format? Cheers Richard
  18. So, can anyone tell me what dates for,a) B421 being renumbered 2421, b) when it was named, and c) lowering of cab and boiler fittings to "composite" loading gauge? Cheers Richard
  19. Just to add, post grouping, the Southern increasingly fitted vacuum ejectors to quite a number of classes of Brighton locos, ironically Westinghouse pumps were fitted to South Western M7 class and South Eastern H class when the SR adopted the Brighton's air operated push pull system
  20. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/gallery/image/65772-rye-signal-box/ A bit late for you now, but here's a glimpse of the fittings inside of an SER box - Rye - just over the county ditch in Sussex, but right on the edge of Romney Marsh. Photo would have been taken in the mid 60s, with a very much younger me assisting Signalman Tom Watson.
  21. Any indication when the composite in Southern Railway "olive" livery is likely to be released? (As with the brake 3rds, I have mine on "pre-order" Cheers Richard
  22. There were a few dual-braked Brighton engines, usually at sheds that were adjacent to other companies' lines - Bradley does list the locos so fitted, but as I'm 12,000 miles away from my bookshelf, I can't check if/which E4s may have been so fitted...
  23. Hello Michael and Nel, Best wishes for 2018 We fly back to the UK at the end of January. Singleton is far from finished - more like barely started, but I hope 2018 will have the baseboards finished and track laid. The O gauge is just a minor diversion - I looked for a small light project I could bring out here with me whilst we were traveling for 3 months and decided a couple of open wagons (to go with my Dapol KESR Terrier) wouldn't tip me over the 23kg luggage limit! - so it's just a couple of pieces of plasticard, a few tools and a drawing! Best wishes Richard
  24. So here is the long haul version of the traveling workshop - obviously has to go hold luggage as it has "dangerous" sharp tools in it! I'm not sure whether I will get a chance to do any modelling, but the prospect of being away for 3 months seem rather daunting, so a few select bits and pieces packed - the objective (and I still have January) is to build a couple of Hurst Nelson open wagons in O gauge, though I will need to source some solvent in the Auckland area to do the assembly. However it may still all go back to the UK untouched!
