  1. Hi Apologies for coming to this thread so late (and if you've already covered these questions!)..... Is there a comprehensive list of running numbers against Hornby catalogue numbers? I am particularly interested in central section allocated coaches in SR Olive livery and have enough coaches to make up set 470, except that 2 of the 1st (R4298) don't have the right number - does anyone if there was ever a variant carrying No. 7673 or 7674 - or is it a matter of renumbering one? Also.... I understand that both sets 469 and 470 were often run with one or two pullmans - does anyone know which particular vehicles were used? Perhaps another thread, but whilst on Pullmans.... can anyone name the vehicles used on any of the Pullman Race specials for Goodwood pre WW2? cheers Richard
  2. Hi, Any thoughts as to which is the "best" machine to buy for model purposes and what the current "best buy" is? I might just order one before the 28th March..... just in case..... cheers Richard
  3. If it's the same as the Drayton/Dieppe kit, the springs are made up from 3 layers of etch.... these are the ones for the tender.... (and the brake etches)
  4. The tender on the Bachmann N class SR mogul wouldn't accept an EM wheel set either - I cut mine longitudinally and moved them out slightly, and added a replacement functional chassis with inside bearings
  5. As the YouTube clip shows - the RHDR visit was for the postwar reopening of the New Romney to Dungeness section of the line in 1947 on the 21st birthday of the line.
  6. Haven't seen the film yet, but hoping to get along before it falls off the showings at the local flee pit - I understand that it deals with their UK tour, so a pity the RHDR doesn't feature, as I know they visited the line either as publicity for themselves or for the RHDR! https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwi3iKCxuv3fAhU0pnEKHfGZC8IQyCkwAHoECAYQBA&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Dq_1FwvhdxWM&usg=AOvVaw37scMEuwApgRhIlkohe03v
  7. Will the Silhouette software allow me to do the drawing at a larger size and then do the cutting at a smaller size - ie I usually draw at 7mm/1' (or larger, depending on the item) and then reduce down to 4mm scale..... cheers Richard
  8. Many thanks for that, it will save me trying to learn two software packages, unnecessarily..... something about old dogs and new tricks, if only I could remember what it was !
  9. I have downloaded both Inkscape and the Silhouette software - my reasoning being that if I need to produce a drawing (for some buildings, where no drawing is extant) it seems logical to do that in a drawing package, rather than just in the Silhouette software which is specific to just that machine - does that make sense? cheers Richard
  10. Hi, Do I need "Bonjour" software that the Silhouette software is trying to download onto my computer - no idea whether it is "safe" Neo-luddite Jones!
  11. Hi,I thought I would try some signal box windows and timber framing overlays for a goods shed (it's a rather ornate goods shed), but the point being that I wanted to see if I could handle the computer side (only being used to producing drawings with Rotring pens on film) before I comited to buying a cutter Cheers Richard
  12. Hi All, I'm still procrastinating about buying a cutter - what software (free?) would anyone suggest that I should download and generate some drawing files in? (currently still running windows 7) I suspect that if I actually had something ready to cut out it would force my hand and cause santa to deliver one! Best wishes Richard
  13. Pity it's the BR(S) version, rather than the SR one, otherwise I would have succumbed to temptation, despite the 1932 renumbering.....
  14. Oo - is that one of those motors off eBay at silly (low) prices? - I've bought a few of those, but not used them yet....
  15. That's a good idea as I already have a jigsaw, which normally only sees service for baseboard construction.... Cheers Richard
  16. That's more what I was thinking about - sure they must be available over here, if not, will look out for one next time we visit our daughter in Auckland....
  17. Hi, Does anyone make, or have a design for a shaker for paint tins (humbrol size) (other paints are available!) I guess that it should be able to make something with Meccano (other constructional toys are available!) Anyone with any bright ideas out there? Cheers Richard
  18. OK, according to Bradley (part 3) "37, 38 & 39, when new, had short cab roofs, but following complaints of inadequate footplate protection, 40 & 41 entered service with extended roofs. No change was made to the first 3 before the grouping, but Maunsell then extended the roofs of all five engines to give the firemen reasonable protection when removing coal from the tender. All roofs were then of the same length" The roofs were further altered to met the composite loading gauge in 1935 -37
  19. All the Brighton atlantics ended up with the extended roofs in Southern days - certainly by the time they were cut down to composite loading gauge, if not before - I'll check Bradley when I get home!
  20. Thanks I think I will try that on my Bachmann N class first to convert it to an A - 3 digit number. Cheers Richard
  21. Oh dear! How much longer can I resist the temptation when I really want one as B421.......
  22. .....and the trucks going over the cliff into the quarry, the express demolishing the coaches fouling the mainline.... the football special (with thier own"Goalposts" disappearing down the disused line.... The opening scene with the A4 and assembled dignitaries getting a shower is great, but whether any of this would translate well into a layout (in the available time) is open to debate! Also a Will Hay (and light railway) enthusiast! but as you say, it all predates me, let alone the younger generation!
