  1. Two coats of humbrol 69 which on the test card matched the Hornby mk1 we have a lighter mk3. Noticed a scratch on the other side which will require a bit of work to get flush. Think some mr surfacer 500 and an overall wet sand before more paint. Ordered some vallejio golden yellow so will see how close a match that is, if not not a massive loss. Slowly getting there atleast. First bit of railway repainting i have done in a good few years now
  2. Safe bet would be more test train stock either modern image network rail or RTC as they seemed to sell really well. Maybe see class 60 in GBRF or DCR class 60 For me personally LNER farewell HST pack and TPE class 802 would be welcome additions
  3. Update time, WE HAVE PAINT!!! After a fair bit of filling and sanding was finally happy with it But then a minor disaster. One of the blanks seperated from the body slightly. A little bit of filler and a ton of glue on the back to try stop to happening again when the body goes on but not sure it will have helped With that sorted was time for the first coat of yellow. Second coat going on tomorrow so should have a bit more depth to it then. Need to decide what to do with the power cars as i have the blue band version so unsure if repaiting them or selling in favour of the new livery ones is the way to go.
  4. no paint yet but progress none the less. Managed to get the body side modifications started using window blanks made by 12A models on ebay. Great little product cutting down on time making window blanks which can only be a good thing. 3 main windows and a toilet window to be filled on this one and after first skim of perfect plastic putty another skim should finish it off and any minor bits will be done using Mr.Surfacer. Onto the other end of the coach the toilet windows have been opened up as per prototype, nice and easy. CDL lights have also in the process of being removed and the coach ends looking a lot better now. lesson learned don't leave it in too long! big railway shifts putting progress on hold till the weekend unfortunately but its progressing nicely. Any questions feel free to ask
  5. An hour with the tamiya ultra thin glue as given a good start. Bit of filler and should be ok. Added a bit of plasticard to the inside to try add a bit more strength to it. Almost everypost i have seen regrading ipa always seems to have great things to say about it. Everard junctions repaint video had good results taking 3 days to strip a 31. Paint did seem rather heavy on this being 4 or 5 coats thick in places so it might have been hiding the cracks. Got two TGS and a buffet to do but dont fancy a repeat of this. Might even shell out for the proper model paint stripper at this rate!
  6. Well cant say im overly impressed. This as been a massive failure and im not entirly sure what went wrong. The end has cracked apart on the mk3 with one ene coming away rather substansually and the other being badly cracked. Trying to salvage it at the moment but not too confident in putting another coach into the IPA. Any ideas to what might have caused this?
  7. great work with the light modification. They really do scrub up well with a few minor tweeks
  8. Not been able to get down Oxwellmains of late but here is a picture of the new stuff going in on the waste haul side. No idea what its for but there was talk of increased output from the works a few years back. hopefully its of some interest to you
  9. They look great, the ones on the NMT mk3s seem to be a one off as they almost look recessed. As for the coach ot has sat in the drink for 3 days and some off it started coming off with help from an old toothbrush. Unfortunatly the black paint from the roof has went from my gloves and the brush all over the place. Some of the paint was still hanging on for dear life. So back in it goes see what another few days do to it. Heres a horror picture of it back in the jar. Hopefully see more of that white plastic thats hiding under all this lot next time its out
  10. last update in January, sure I don't need to explain the last 10 months having a bit of a impact on being able to get to the models, that and big railway commitments, key worker ect ect but anyway an update! Managed to buy a couple of spare mk3s off a mate to make a start to a little project, the NMT. TSG and TSO split down and the latter is now having a relaxing soak in some isopropyl. Be interesting to see how it does as I have not tried this method of removing paint before but keep seeing good results. The TSG was first to go one jar after being split in the usual method as explained elsewhere on here. It is to become production coach 977994 with a fully modelled interior and various lights associated with the testing equipment fitted at a later date. TSO will become 975814 conference coach requiring a little bit more work with a few of the windows being blanked off. hoping to have the the basic livery colors on at least the TSG by the weekend. Still need to order decals for the two just struggling to find suitable ones for the door release lights in the centers of the coach and the web address that's now been applied to a couple of the coaches. so if anyone knows anywhere that does these please let me know. Apart from that next update soon. hopefully not another 10 months! JT
  11. just a quick question. Are you applying a layer or two of varnish after the paint cures or just as it is out the bottle?
  12. I have been using the Ak german late ww2 armor sets on a few tanks I have been building with great results. the drying time for acrylics is the main plus point for me and they just seem so much easier to get going when spraying and cleaning the airbrush. saying that is has been a few years since I last dabbled with spraying the likes of railmatch so maybe just out of practice. discovered rainbow railways have a range of railway acrylics. personally I am surprised there are not railway acrylics more widely available as there must be others that prefer them over the alternatives. on a side note have been toying with the idea of trying some of these armor based products on some rolling stock as they produce some rather nice results
  13. think the easiest way to do this is to split it into two for freight flow. cements have stayed mostly the same off oxwellmains running to the following viewpark (glasgow) aberdeen inverness Seaham 2013 regulars freight Powderhall - oxwellmains - powderhall. traction was either 67 or the odd 66. GBRF 66711 worked this on very short term hire at least once. torness flask basicly anything kingmoor had to hand 20s,37s,57s,66s freightliner bins from Northenden. ran to millerhill then back down to oxwellmains. GMC blue waste containers on this North Bylth - fort william alcans RETB fitted GBRF 66s Dalzell steel DB 66 borders rail train EWS class 90 with long weld rail wagons GB tyne yard - millerhill, GB 66 with various engineers wagons. 66709 was a regular on this network rail HST to craigentinny for powercar swap passenger XC mostly 220/221s with the odd HST set LNER hsts and 91s 2019/2020 freight torness flask 68s or 88s North Bylth - fort william alcans RETB fitted GBRF 66s Dalzell steels DB 66 doncaster - millerhill engineers Colas rail 56 or 70 Tees dock - mossend intermodal DB 66s Tees Dock - Elderslie GBRF intermodal Sinfin - grangemouth tanks Colas 56 scotrail HSTs from doncaster to Edinburgh refurbishment moves passenger LNER class 800s TPX class 802 XC class 220s/221s, HST sets on top of that you can run almost anything on a charter set as this part of the ECML does see a fair bit of variety As for the shunters they are named 'Black Agnes' and 'Doon Hill'. Waste plant sidings are currently undergoing work which has seen a top load silo installed at the far end of the hard standing at the berwick end
  14. Hi all, working away on a loco and was wondering if anyone knows what vallejo paints are a close match to modern warning panel yellow. Using 71.002 Medium Yellow as an alternative to network rail yellow. I know humbrol do Br yellow code RC407 just looking for an alternative incase I cant get hold of this. Also don't know how the humbrol stuff reacts with vallejio and AK thinners and varnish so want to play it safe and avoid any unwanted reactions
  15. Personally I think the shorter time for announcement to release is fantastic. Especially when a payment plan is offered along side to make getting the models you want that little bit less stressful and a lot easier to manage. The transparency and frequent updates on the projects as well is brilliant. Think many will agree the way you do announcements, updates and the finished product have been a very welcome addition to the hobby
  16. got about 6 coaches to strip back and have seen 99.9% isopropyl alcohol mentioned in various places as an alternative to often expensive brand model paint strippers. How we all using it? straight from the bottle or diluting to some degree? any thing to watch out for in regards to it effecting the plastic and where is best to source it
  17. its CK2308 Royal Train Brakes and a couple of LDP901 Class 91/325 EMU Pantograph or similar. Does not seem to be a number listed on the site just a post address unfortunately
  18. Shame if that is the case. A few product im hunting for on various auction sites by them. Would be a great loss if the range was lost for good if not picked up by another company if possible
  19. Im 5 mins down the road and quite often in the area with work. If your needing any pictures, operational details or track plans/ signalling info just drop me a message
  20. Oxwellmains by any chance? If so i should have pics of the wagon shop at the top of the yard. Waste haul site has changed recently as well
  21. The other has just replaced 66733 on the alcans so should be on the north Blyth to fort William turn for a bit. Also seen it paired with the biffa bin shed on a ballast a few months back so plenty of scope for freight operations with the locos
  22. Rail express reporting the two Balfour ones have been disposed of in a recent bit of spring cleaning
  23. We are having trouble with vans now the new guidelines are out, imagine the hire company's have not got a lot left to hand out. Meanwhile in Edinburgh life goes on... albeit a slightly stranger life than we are all use to. Missing the pre shift Kababs however.
  24. From rule book module 3 'managing incidents, floods and snow' - up to the bottom of the rail head : Normal Running - up to the top of the rail head : Maximum speed 5MPH (10km/h) - Above the top of the rail head : Movements only permitted by instructions from operations control hopefully that covers it. great pictures as always Jim. Seen mentioned there was another design a livery comp running. Be interesting to see if it replaces 66720s or if there will be two out running in these liverys
  25. Hopefully that works, will give it a try next week
