  1. Could be worth a try, I had the loco on the program track and no matter how I tried to find it I just got error back. Really hoping I have not wreaked it connecting the speaker wires even after I was extra careful in doing so
  2. Been fitting a loksound decoder to a Bachmann 66 today. Got it ready to go speaker soldered to it and plugged it onto the loco and nothing. Tried to find it using the ESU 50200 controller and it just kept bouncing back 'error' on both program track and on program on main 'POM'. Noticed when trying to locate the controller which has not had an update since I owned it only had up to the V3 chip to select. I had the chip fitted to a freight liner 66 before upgrading the speaker to a road rails one. Have I killed the chip or is a possible fault with the loco/controller

coach is on my list of conversions I plan to do this year from a Hornby mk2. if I can work out where they are emitting from could possibly replicate something similar on DCC.

  3. Well yet again not a lot of progress but I have joined the local club which has gave the old motivation for modeling a boot up the backside, so hopefully posts wont be as few and far between. DC460000 has had its mid sections altered on Autocad so hopefully get them test printed in some shape or form soon. The main alterations are closing the gap between to two sections as this was far to large a gap at around 3mm with the changes taking it down to 1mm. The mid sections have also been made narrower as per prototype. Also been pondering this which was bought before Bachmann announced there ones. Pair of PH designs 20/3 bodys. original plan was to convert two lima dummy locos and run them with these Bachmann lead units. I will continue to convert the lima dummy locos for the Bachmann ones when they come out but as for the resin ones, Im unsure if I will continue with them. Ideal solution for me would be to try get a pair of blue body's to do mainline pair 20142 and 20189 which are becoming harder to get from the usual online auction sites or sell bodies and chassis as a project but with the Bachmann one coming might struggle to shift them. In the meantime while I ponder the next move with the 20s will hopefully be able to update something in the next couple few weeks while I figure out what I all have and figure out what supplies to pick up at model rail Scotland in just over a months time - JT
  4. Hornby pre order in with the local model shop. Best start the over time on the big railway to pay for all these new additions for the little railway before Bachmann add to the pre order list come feb!

  5. Well tomorrow is Hornby release day. Heres hoping for LNER IC blue power cars, GBRF 50/60. To be honest after Airfix announced the new tooled 1/72 Vulcan bomber I think there web site will be first port of call tomorrow morning. A re run of the super puma

Going by the past few years, the Hornby website will crash on the dot of 9 and people will be pleased/disappointed in equal measure.

Its going to be interesting to see what Simon has taken out of the box. I just hope its not a virtual trainset with a cranky interface...

I would be really surprised if the class 390 and class 800s did not appear in more liverys but then again who knows. all will become clear tomorrow

Here's to the release of their marketing boyz'n'gurlz, to be replaced with someone who has a clue.

  6. Are Oxford rails still planning to release the triple pack of warwells? mind there being talk of them being cancelled but hattons still show them as available for order. Either way I have at least 8 trumpeter warrior kits on pre order now so trying to find a use for them could prove interesting if the wagons are no longer coming

      Hi.

I wouldn't bother with them tbh. They've announced that they won't have the extended decks, or warrior cradles, and they run really badly. Mine won't even stay on straight track.

I know the livery is off when compared to the Hattons ones so with a repaint being a must, sticking extras on was not really too much of an issue. Especially when you compared the price of 3 wagons compared to one of the Hattons ones which have now sold out and probably going for a bit more than originally asked. hopefully if they do appear in the future the running issues will have been resolved

  7. Class 88s also work the Carlisle to Torness flask flow via the ECML. I have seen them running diesel under the wires a few times as well as switching to diesel at Dunbar when running via Tyne valley. As for the Doncaster to Millerhill that transferred to colas not too long after it started with the preferred traction now being class 70s or 9 times out of 10 a class 56.
  8. Just been sent a pic from a colleague of a certain LNER HST set, WOW get the cameras ready its absolutely stunning!

  9. 31233 which is the one I have the pods are grey to match the roof. 31285 they appear black for the first time, same as 602
  10. if you are going to weather the loc the roof pods should not be too noticeable as the roofs ended up filthy rather quickly on them
  11. I have one of last ones Hornby done in network rail and as far as I can tell the livery is pretty good. I see with 602 they have actually put the high intensity light on this one which is bonus as the one I got did not have this, just a high intensity light that was flush with the body. I also remember seeing a pic of the DCR one which seemed to run with all its lights on when travelling forward which is incorrect so would be interesting to see if this has been rectified. Looking at pictures of the model on a well known online retailer I am not 100% sold on the black radio pods on the roof or the style of extra lights fitted. 602 seemed to have ran with bulkier round units as seen in this pic http://www.railgallery.co.uk/20_33_html/31602_31465_Wichnor.html. other than that it looks to be an accurate model of the prototype
  12. anyone know of any model groups in the east of Scotland that cater for modern image modellers?

@Dungrange Thanks, that's useful. It sounds interesting. I will try to get along at some point to say hello. Would my 11 year old be welcome, or is he too young? He is interested but not as much as me!

@virginhst539 sorry for hijacking your post, I have kept this discussion public rather than taking it to Private Messages because I thought it may be useful for anyone else in my position in the future.

@Moonter. Our Constitution gives a minimum age of 14 to become a Junior Member, but in practise we have no issues with Club Members bringing their sons (or daughters) along, even if they are a bit younger.  In the past we have had some adults join the club purely because it is their son's hobby and they leave when their son finds another interest.  I can't give you an absolute minimum age (because we've never agreed on one), but your son would need to be mature enough to engage in what is currently an adult only club (our-youngest members are in their 20s and our oldest in their 70s and 80s).  We do not have any child safeguarding policy, as a youth organisation like the Scouts would, so we would leave you as being responsible for your son's behaviour and safety when he is at our premises.  Finally, as our clubroom is effectively a workshop, there are obviously some safety hazards such as saws, knives, drills, soldering irons, etc and therefore I'd encourage that you make sure your son is aware of the risks of injury from various tools.  However, despite all these caveats, I have no objections to you bringing you son along with you, and as I'm currently the secretary, I can say that as a committee view.

@Moonter no problem. Its a really good club with members who have a great degree of knowledge all things railway related both models and real thing. The club has a Facebook page which has update posts twice a week generally on club nights from club layout updates to member projects

  13. I am sure comet models use to do brass sides for BR coaches at around £12 a coach. if your able to get hold of a lima or replica railways coach on the cheap these are ideal for putting brass sides on and at a fraction of the cost of a Bachmann coach.
  14. The MK1 RF now has no branding apart from a small Pullman crest on one of the ends. Would imagine the other side is the same but can’t confirm
  15. thinking of doing the same.... saves me painting one!
  16. small update progress slowly pushes on with 37175. managed to acquire most of the required paints so been working away at getting the repairs to the previous owners renumbering attempt as well as small roof modifications done. next job will be to get the nose ends done. Just require a strip down and a bath to strip the old paint off as well as a few replacement lamp irons from the box of spare detailing parts have since noticed the blanking panel on the loco now is flush with the roof and the three ribs in the center of that part of the roof are not present on 37175. I'm in two minds to start sanding way at it and having to re work the filler or just take it on the chin and keep it as is. Also what is the best way to cut 3mm plasticard, Trying a bit of scratch building and the razor saws I use for taking small parts off airfix aircraft are not really good enough for what im needing (straight cuts) Thanks, Jake
  17. went to a Edinburgh based model shop for railmatch paint and came away with a northern belle mk3 sleeper at an absolute bargain price of £25. Made battling through the festival crowds well worth it!

  18. Wow nearly a year since the last update.... my enthusiasm for railway modelling almost ground to a halt since getting a job on the real thing but slowly getting back to it. Decals ordered for 37175 so hopefully get that done before 37025 turns up. Still needing to dig out the northern belle and get that finished once decals are sourced. Hoping to get started on a project which is sort of work related that I have not seen done yet but could be wrong so watch this space. In the mean time have I missed something. Popped into my local model shop to find they are no longer getting the triple pack of warwell wagons in? Hopefully I’m wrong other wise I have at least six spare warriors now! anyway hopefully not as long till my next update
  19. looking forward to the new model as the old one was well overdue an upgrade. as for prototype 91108 will official be retired after working 1S28 1800 Kings Cross to Edinburgh tonight
  20. Bachmann have done models with the modified two piece side windows as seen on later and overhauled class 66s. it would defiantly be worth contacting the Bachmann parts department and seeing if they have any which could be sent out. They have been really good with supplying spare parts in my experience and would be the easier option than trying to modify the original style windows. just pop out the old and fit the new. hopefully this helps
  21. last place you expect to end up on a Sunday night was Berwick-upon-tweed watching 67004 rescue 55009! thankfully a bit less fire compared to the last deltic that failed at Berwick!

  22. well was not expecting to come across a royal mail PCV this week. nice little bonus seeing i was under the impression they had been scrapped from that site!

  23. or if you want to mix it up even more, add a WCRC 37 to the mix! any excuse for a video plug! the mentor set with 37219 and 37099 is up in Edinburgh just now. works Edinburgh to Glasgow Queen Street and back before heading down the ECML to the RTC leaving Edinburgh around 1215 if that's any help
  24. Thanks for the info pete, as i say its just to break up the standard green when they are all coupled up. have noticed what looks like an aditional ammo can on the side of the turret so will need to do a bit more digging to see what else is missing from the kit. one thing im bad for is finding things and forgetting to save the links to the ruddy things. thankfully found some more close up pictures of the prototype showing the other side of the tank. need to play about with the best way to replicate the flaking of the red paint to expose the green and yellow scheme under it. http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?topic=11611.0 thanks, jake
