  1. How wide is the strip? Sheathing with heat shrink may be an option
  2. I would be wary of this as all the droppers on Hawes were done using orinary flux and solder for steel rail
  3. Put the bolt through the hole and solder in place from the bottom.
  4. Narrow Planet do custom plates painted.
  5. From the drawings and instructions from D&S kits the lamps were over the centre of the door and ventilators 2' (8mm) to the right over the compartments. They would vary over the brake van.
  6. What year(s)? Coopercraft did an AEC Monarch lorry 1931 onwards. Don't order from coopercraft though
  7. In Midland Record Number 3 there is reproduced the LMS instructions for sheeting which states they must be folded and should not be stored flat but on their sides or ends and preferably under cover. This leads to the question were they covered by a sheet when being sent by wagon which is why there isn't a picture?
  8. I file the brake shoes so that the profile matches the wheel profile and ensure that thee is enough clearance top and bottom. I also restrict the amount of rock as .5mm either way is sufficient. I model in P4.
  9. I get 2mm handrail knobs from N brass. Ideal for handrails on 4mm coach and NPCS ends. https://www.nbrasslocos.co.uk/
  10. 52f do a kit. His kits are very nice to build.
  11. On Hawes (and a previous layout) I have used balsa wood with a thin ply top. Wills random stone walling was used to face and plasticard for the edging stones.
  12. That is what I have ended up doing. The sub floor locates between white metal ledges so can't come out and everything else has been fixed to it using butanone. I wasn't sure whether it would work but it has.
  13. Thanks for that. I wish I'd realised before gluing them on. Banger plates now to be made and attached.
  14. The 4 Midland 5 planks ready for painting. They will be joined bu 2 3 planks and a P4 Hopper.
  15. All my early locos are portescap fitted and 2 have been converted to DCC without issue. The later Portescap have a whine from the gearbox due to wear on the mold of the gears.
  16. I use evoostick to fix the compensated W irons to the plasic floor. I have only had a couple come unstuck over a 40 year period. Thats an intersting idea re solvent
  17. Unfotunately I don't have any thixofix so it is Evostick, Epoxy or superglue of which the modern stuff seems to breach trade descriptions.
  18. Having got 4 midland 5 planks ready for the paint shop this morning I decided to do theinterior for the P4 hopper that has been part built for longer than I can remember. Just need to decide which is the best glue to fix it all in place.
  19. The baseboards for Hawes has the dowels epoxied in place. This was in the early 90s and they are still going strong today without any issues. It ws the regular Araldite not the rapid.
  20. Hawes is P4 and the rodding is no higher than the top of the rail
