  1. May I suggest that a location from 'Hardy's' Wessex might be an idea. http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/~bp10/hardy/map_of_wessex.htm 'Weydon Priors' is roughly in your suggested location.
  2. Just noticed the 'rivet' that sits by the side of the tail light lens has swapped sides on the model from the 21st century prototype. Time to look at some photos from a more contemporary time frame. Edit Looks like the 1:1 scale modelers of the 21st century got it wrong 2nd Edit ... ah so it's a knob for changing the lens colour from white to red.
  3. I accidentally deleted my post but yes, there's some evidence to suggests emaciated numbering
  4. Trains from Waterloo didn't have to reverse at St Davids did they Sorry I'm being a mischief maker
  5. A few 'bagpipes' had white windows but I'm not sure about 108. This is the kind of thing that can happen when you start employing people from Finsbury IMHO
  6. Maybe that's why the bridge has been demolished, all those 'spotters' had worn it out. http://www.derbytelegraph.co.uk/Derby-s-Victorian-London-Road-bridge-demolished/story-20364975-detail/story.html
  7. Humber 'Pigs' were certainly common on that service but are they not 'Saxons' in this instance?
  8. The steel traffic shown was probably the Hamworthy flow, this lasted well into Railfreight days using a variety AB steel carriers. The mixed freight looks like the Severn Tunnel / Eastleigh (normally lots of military traffic on that one). The Rail Liner IIRC was used on traffic originating from a furniture manufacturer in the Froome area so it would have been a familiar sight around Westbury.??? Additionally there was (is) some flows of oil from Fawley.
  9. ... would it of looked more like a 40 than the 40 too However this is an interesting point. Knowledge of the prototype is key IMHO. Much of my familiarity of 33's was developed from the steps of the 'hot water bottle store' on the end of platforms 2/3 at Salisbury station. I remember seeing them bounce across the point work through the western throat, I know them pretty well. I had a Bachmann class 40 and I thought it an impressive model so I bought one but then I wasn't half as informed about their body work so I was quite happy. However it really shouldn't be like that should it
  10. Regarding the `BG` you could always covert it to a courier van, IIRC they were converted from half brakes (there's an historical expression) and you pretty much have two BSK van ends stuck back to back. Fill in the window and door openings one end and rescribe some new door detail and away you go. It will be just the thing for those valuable parcel shipments. Edit I think there is one in the parcel train featured on the Redhill video a couple of pages back.
  11. Lovely layout, I love NPCC. I don't know if your are already aware (not read any comments in the thread) but I just need to mention a couple of things about your Lima purchases. The siphon needs something more than a change of wheels I'm afraid. It needs a bogie swap (which is probably advantageous as far as finding finer profile wheels is concerned) as it stands it's riding on BR1s. I think Bachmann and Replica do appropriate replacements but you will have to double check that. The Lima BG isn't 57' long, it's riding on an interpretation of the standard 63' 5'' under frame so it's too long. With the rest of the layout and stock looking spot on it would be a shame to overlook these points IMHO. All the best Griff
  12. You could devise some buffers either end, I've seen sponge and plasticard slotted into the angle do the job. Additionally might I suggest some handles to help with moving the cassettes?
  13. I wasn't happy with the 33/0. What annoyed me most was the that Heljan proved they could do it right when they wanted and they wanted the same cash for a good Crompton and a poorer Crompton. However I did what SRman did and got on with some modelling and got the result I wanted. (Although I converted a /1 to a /0). I agree it's down to personal preference but please don't decry those who seek a decent model, on another thread I've read comments about the shape of a pile of plastic coal, I really don't think that wanting the roof of a Crompton to be the correct shape is unreasonable.
  14. Take a look at the 'shoulder' it's almost highlighted by the red pot on the left.
  15. Thanks for posting. There's an unkind shadow along the roof so I can't comment on how much it's been improved but glory be that side grill looks terrible
  16. Minories (the road) links Fenchurch Street and Aldgate. It's too much of a coincidence that these two urban stations can't of been some influence to CF and his design.
  17. Well I'd have thought that Bachmann customers would need something to haul those Mk2e coaches???
  18. ... and I think it may have been repainted blue at the same time... but I'm not completely sure?
  19. IIRC there was an issue about the green bagpipe but I can't for the life remember what it was... it was the only one in green as the prototype so I'm thinking the bits and bobs added during conversion was changed for the 'production' conversions, was it something to do with the air pipes I wonder??? I have absolutely no idea and I maybe completely wrong as it's well before my era.
  20. The thing about HS1 it links London in the SE to the continent via the CT also in the SE. So the A to B was obvious it was only the route that needed consideration. With HS2 the A is certain but the B is open for debate.
  21. I did make a point supporting HS2 as far as Birmingham.
  22. I do hope I don't smell a rat and that a certain manufacturer hasn't launched a commercial torpedo buy slowing down supply and preserving the market for themselves... crossing my fingers that Kernow has a 'bullet proof' contract.
  23. Well you might have to wait for train or a tram after all the hordes have gotten off I don't deny that there are clear advantaged to high speed rail and there is no doubt that there are serious capacity issues on the network, I'm just not convinced this part of the network has the problem. Incidentally I have just had a look at a ATOC report published last year. It says that rail already has 79% of the passenger share between London and Manchester but the percentage is only 20% for all journeys between London and Glasgow (2010 figures). Admittedly there is potential between London and Birmingham where the figure was 30%. Just saying.
