  1. Many thanks for your help. Depending on price I may simply buy a couple and mix them into some MK1 / Maunsell formations.
  2. I'm not too fussy about the particular date, if I can justify any of these Bachmann releases featuring on the eastern section at any time in their lives I will buy a few.
  3. I did some work on 1638 back in my volunteering days on the K&ESR so would like to purchase one. Though as a SE&CR / Southern (eastern section) man I couldn't bring myself to buy the preserved green version, probably one of the BR early models. I think 1638 probably works harder in preservation than she ever did on BR service!
  4. After the dissapointment, at least for me, of Hornby's latest catalogue I'm hoping Bachmann might be a little more adventurous. The 4-6-2 and 4-6-0 categories are already vastly overepresented whereas there are some wonderful and numerous 4-4-0s, 2-6-0s and 0-6-0s just waiting to be done.
  5. Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere already. I wanted to ask if any of these new coaches would be appropriate for a southeast layout? Loosely I model round Ashford and Kent in general. I understand Bulleid coaches did not arrive on the eastern section until 1949. Thanking you all in advance.
  6. I bought a Bachmann 9F many years ago and consider it still to be an excellent model, competitive with today's standards (pun intended!). This to me seems an unecessary duplication, I had thought Hornby might have gone for a 2MT Tank given their work on the tender version. Even if its an amazing model, much like the Lord Nelsons I'm happy with my Bachmann version and especially at today's prices!
  7. Yawn more express passenger locos. I appreciate there is a wow factor to them which probably makes them good sellers but it would have been nice to see Hornby offer something more mid range given the 6P-8P category is already vastly overepresented in Ready to Run 4mm. I was hoping for the H in grey but never mind, next year perhaps!
  8. I bought a Bachmann 9F many years ago and consider it still to be an excellent model, competitive with today's standards (pun intended!). This to me seems an unecessary duplication, I had thought Hornby might have gone for a 2MT Tank given their work on the tender version. But for me this catalogue is really quite unimaginative.
  9. I have six of the Hattons Genesis coaches in SE&CR livery preordered and was actually considering ordering more. Given Hornby have ignored the SE&CR livery (which I should imagine is one of the most popular pre grouping companies) Hattons should at least retain some orders. I guess I am not alone in that what determines my choice is not so much price but how it fits onto my layout. I'll be interested to see how Hornby's offering matches up to Hattons but for me its all about the SE&CR!
  10. Decided to pre order the SE&CR Green and SE&CR Grey ones. In an ideal world I'd like the southern green as well but as some have already commented at close to £200 each that's about all I'm going to go for. Last week I gladly picked up a bargain Southern sunshine C Class at Kernow for £70 but I know generally for new models we can expect at least £150.
  11. A very interesting set of announcements! Think Hornby have done well to tap into their heritage but without going too overboard. Am intrigued by the rocket set and the retooled APT. Did Hornby have a plan to retool the APT before DJM or is it a reaction to? I think Hornby will have pleased many with this announcement but as a predominatly Southeastern modeller there's not much other than the wartime H Class for me.
  12. I hope to be back where my layout is at the end of the month so I hope to be able to investigate further. I have seen some carriages and locos given a minimum radius guide but the birdcages don't specfy. Thanks all.
  13. Which makes the claim peddled by some authors that it was Maunsell who introduced standardisation to Ashofrd laughable. Wainwright and his team were better engineers than many give them credit for.
  14. I will have a look when I next have access to my model. However even coupled to a loco with a large coupling and just a single birdcage coach produced similar results. Thanks.
  15. Apologies if I'm covering old ground / something that has been convered before. Due to restricted space I have a loop made up of radius 2 curves, my three coach SE&CR set derails constantly. I'm wondering whether some extra weight in the coaches would help them keep to the rails a bit better? Very few of my other Hornby / Bachmann coaches derail on the loop so just pondering the best way forward. Advice and suggestions greatfully recieved, thanks.
  16. Sorry but for me the D is far more elegant than a Stirling Single. Really impressed by the photos of the SE&CR H. Will complement the Bachmann C Class I think.
  17. Point taken, however my point is that one can justify that price if they have additional features such as lights and passengers installed.
  18. Just cancelled my order, the price of the items went up last year as well. For a model without factory fitted lighting it represents poor value for money. I still find them expensive, but at least for £55 you can get a Hornby Pullman with lights. It's a shame but that's life!
  19. Maybe it's just me, I buy a loco because I want that class / loco, rather than the colour of the tyres or thickness of the castings. Far superior to anything I could hope to produce myself! As for pre-ordering, if you're confident it won't sell out quickly then yes its probably worth waiting.
  20. Aside from the solid wall in the compartment, I've been happy with VEP. It looks the part (my eyes don't work in 0.1mm like some people seem to) and runs well on my layout.
  21. Absolutely. Far better its released all guns blazing than firing blanks.
  22. The release date of models tend to be a moveable occasion!
  23. I struggle to understand how IOW stock might have more appeal than SE&CR stock? After all the SE&CR versions (assuming all liveries catered for) lasted from approx 1910 - 1960. Personally, as a man of kent the SE&CR stock is of intrinsic interest to me and many who live in one of the most densely populated areas of the country, unlike the IOW.
  24. Looking forward to the Maunsell Green S15. Don't know whether they strayed into Kent but it will look equally good with my Hornby Maunsell set or some dirty coal trucks
