  1. I think part of the problem here, is the fact that a lot of modern cars are leased, therefore, while it's under warranty, the leasing company pay the charge, probably without question, so that gives the manufacturer the justification to charge what they like, to everyone!
  2. I agree that for 'some' subjects it doesn't really matter, but for a lot of the queries, and asking for assistance, it really does. I've seen multiple times where a question has been asked, and the person replying has not only given a reasonable answer, but has also offered to pop round and help with the problem (such is the quality, and generosity, of the membership on RMweb) only to discover that the OP is at the other end of the country, or even further! And yes, I've heard the feeble argument that they are worried about security issues, etc. but I'm not advocating postcode, or anything like that. I've chosen to put my home town, the county would have been adequate, for non-UK residents just the country would do. Finally, my apologies for hi-jacking your thread, I'll put away my soap-box now, good luck with the boards/layout. My opinion is that whatever you use, it is given a few good coats of stain/varnish/seal to protect it from humidity, insects, mould, or just the ravages of time!
  3. Until then (that paragraph), I had assumed (wet car, etc.) that you were talking about this country! It would be helpful if members included, in their signature, or under their avatar, a small clue to their whereabouts on this planet, please!
  4. Which is what I'd be doing, I can't stand citra hops/citrus beers, they taste too much like lager for me!
  5. Quite possibly, but it might just be the order and presentation they get wrong. Ham - bread - cheese, with a side order of butter!
  6. But if they priced them correctly (for them), they would make the same amount of profit. So they would probably increase their customer base, the increase in those just wanting a chassis for unusual, or scratchbuilt, locos, would be much greater than those lost by not buying a complete model, just to dispose of the unwanted body.
  7. He would have been more visible, and probably noticed. But if all the players had been wearing them as well, then he'll just blend in again!
  8. Trouble is, that bright lights stand out, until every car has them, then the effect is diminished, and the advantage lost!
  9. The alternative to a hinged flap (opening upwards) or a removable, drop in section, is a vertically hinged, gate style opening, which I've used, successfully, in the past, for a mate of mine, who has limited mobility.
  10. I'm also not bothering to fit them anymore, I'll leave them on the stock for my shunting puzzle, because it's dedicated stock, but the next layout will have S&W couplings.
  11. Phil, sorry it's taken so long to get back to you, but this last year has been a bit intense! So I found the jig, it's obviously for 0 gauge, but the rule should also help anyone trying to do other scales/gauges, hopefully.
  12. I think you'd struggle with creating the baseboard, but apart from that, yes, probably.
  13. In a feedback to them, before Covid, but after their last website upgrade, I told them that I thought that it looked, and worked, like an abandoned primary school project, totally un-intuitive. They rang me, but couldn't see how frustrating it was to put in '7mm wagon kits', but get pictures of N gauge wagons, 0-16,5 track, etc, instead! So don't hold your breath, waiting for a better website!
  14. Although I remember, quite clearly, using the coins shown, and remember their names, ha'penny, thru'penny bit, tanner, I don't remember, or know, what the difference between an e shilling and an s shilling is!
  15. I disagree, but not for the reason you're thinking. Grab as much cable as you can, then bag it up and weigh it in at your local scrap metal dealer, you'll need to take ID for proof of who you are (driving licence). I'm getting about £15 per rubble bag full, no need to strip it, just separate out any BT cable, they won't/can't accept it, and its's normally paid straight into your account. It's a great way to fund your hobby!
  16. These all have an axle length of about 51mm
  17. I might have 1 more pair, but I haven't found them yet.
  18. Did you manage to source any wheels, or do you still need some?
  19. And if you tell the difference between music and noise, then there is no point in trying to explain it. I'm dismissing a genre because it's not musical or singing (it's angry people shouting and ranting) not singling out one artist because I don't like what they produce, if you can't see the irony of your argument, then this is pointless, you should be criticising others in this thread
  20. No, I don't like opera, but they can sing, and to music, even though I don't enjoy it (c) Rap is not singing, the closest might be described as chanting. I don't like all kinds of music and/or singing, but I know whether it is musical or not. I'm not trying to impose my 'standard' of music on anyone, just using a normal definition of music, as against noise
  21. Or a development of the Wickham trolley?
  22. Although they're not my favourite band, they've produced some good stuff. but importantly, everything that they've done has at least been music, compared to certain genres, which consist of people shouting or ranting over a repeated beat or noise, not music!
  23. Agreed, then they're almost as good looking as an Achilles class!
  24. I would suggest that they've been doing this for far longer than the last couple of years.
