  1. I've just read this thread from start to finish and I love your railway, the detailing is exquisite. May I ask what seems a trivial question... With so much detail in the scenic s, how do you keep the dust off the layout? Clearly you can't vacuum it so do you cover it with gardener's fleece or similar when not in use? Just curious because my garage is very dusty. Cheers Rich...

A good question Rich and yes I do use a vacuum, very carefully. You can get those mini vacs but the power isn't very good so providing you don't go mad the normal house type is perfect.Be gentle.I also have an old make up/blusher brush for rolling stock, rooves mainly. My garage is quite clean but a fleece would be a great idea.If the scenics is well glued down you won't have a problem using a vac.

  2. In answer to your question from earlier about the Royal Duchy. This taken from the summer of 1963:

So after Newton Abbot, the first stop was Plymouth, from where it was (almost) all stations to Penzance.

Lovely to see 1368 - was this your first kit built locos? Looks very nice.

It stopped at Totnes as well. ;) Yes it was my first kit built loco from the early 90s I think.Still available here http://www.djhmodelloco.co.uk/prodpage.asp?productid=3067 for £80.Compare that with the new Hornby 42xx.

Obviously, the 'photos of the Royal Duchy are an immediate hit.... But so is Tintagel speeding through.

Thanks for everyones kind comments.I'm still taking requests. ;)

Talking of the The Royal Duchy, does anyone know the stations it stopped at West of Exeter as I don't think it stopped here.I know it was a long winded not particularly quick service from Paddington though.

  4. Here's a close up of another 'resident' sat on the bench on the up platform. This is where you lot come in.For amusement, can anyone come up with a suitable name for him.A Dickensian name might be appropriate as used by Mikkel on his Farthing blogs. Anyway here he is chatting to the porter our good friend Mike Roper. The sun is shining today and he will be getting a sweat on carrying those cases. The down milk and parcels has just rattled through hauled by the Hall...

One item that I've not found yet is a 7mm equivalent of the GWR 12 Ton China Clay Wagon O13 (the Parkside 4mm kit is Product Code: PC82). I'll be needing a few of these - any ideas on a source? (I know about the forthcoming Kernow / Dapol RTR version but would prefer a kit and don't fancy spending £59 on a wagon and then throwing bits away). Looks like I'm not alone in wandering this....

Morning Chris.I know there's a brass version in this range.Lovely looking kits.  http://www.ukmodelshops.co.uk/catalogue/wep#.UV_YVdnySuI

'Through coaches' - them were the days my luvvers (Devon term for people to whom one was talking).

So Rob, when do we get the 4p.m. off 83D up Mail from down west then?

    Quack

Definitely not as I don't own any.

Hi Rob. I like that patch of bare earth where the platform ends in the last photo. Any tips on how you did that?

I used this product http://www.treemendusmodels.co.uk/productguidegroundworkmaterials.html Again not cheap but very good. The seller is on here and did the scenics on Over Peover too.Just use pva and sprinkle through a sieve.

  7. Sadly, I don't have Brent... But in 1947 a single Newton Abbot to Paddington was ..... 56/- that is £2.80 (I think!!) ... According to Google 56/- would equal £391 in today's money..... FGW charge £121

Sorry slightly off topic, I've been scanning the 1947 Timetable!

Btw - Can we just check the timing for that branch-line working, I assume the 4:15pm ex-Kingsbridge is running late.... it was due at Brent at 4:50pm, yet I see it was caught / edited at 5:27pm - Just checking !! :-)

Fantastic Neal and thanks.I can't guarantee to stick to the times as believe it or not I actually have to go to work too.

  8. Lovely Robin.

Is 3864 hauling the Bachmann Cattle vans as described further up?

Yes and a Hall will be on a milk and parcels shortly. ;) Followed by a Castle on an express......

The coach is an E147 as discussed here http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/49589-gwr-b-set-diagram-e147/
