Very funny Phil and you will be giving young Mikkel a run for his money in the dialect stakes my old janner.I hadn't given the airmans name a thought yet.

In answer to your question from earlier about the Royal Duchy. This taken from the summer of 1963:
So after Newton Abbot, the first stop was Plymouth, from where it was (almost) all stations to Penzance.
Lovely to see 1368 - was this your first kit built locos? Looks very nice.
It stopped at Totnes as well. Yes it was my first kit built loco from the early 90s I think.Still available here http://www.djhmodelloco.co.uk/prodpage.asp?productid=3067 for £80.Compare that with the new Hornby 42xx.

Final shots of this weekend show an imposter on the branch in the shape of 1366 class 1368.How many of you voted for this tank in the recent poll ?
Not many I bet but wouldn't it be great if someone like Kernow Models commissioned one to be made.
Another old kit built DJH loco, I built long before I planned on doing Brent and totally inappropriate being mainly using at Weymouth on the boat trains etc.The wagon is a rebranded Parkside bloater to a parcels van.Definitely not one for the purists on here. Probably half correct as I do know that some S8 diagram bloaters were converted. Not brilliant in close up though eh. I do like brown vehicles though.

Obviously, the 'photos of the Royal Duchy are an immediate hit.... But so is Tintagel speeding through.
Thanks for everyones kind comments.I'm still taking requests.
Talking of the The Royal Duchy, does anyone know the stations it stopped at West of Exeter as I don't think it stopped here.I know it was a long winded not particularly quick service from Paddington though.

Ok you've waited long enough. A double header featuring two Castles on the Royal Duchy in the summer of 1957.I was inspired by a photo of 5049 'Earl of Plymouth' on Dainton taken by R C Riley and had to model it using Bachmann mk1s even though its ten years on from my period. Its nice to see that crew shortages aren't a new thing. The headboard is a Fox product.

Augustus and Arthur stand back as 45xx class 4547 passes with the train from Kingsbridge.Later she is seen basking in the sunshine awaiting departure on a stopping train to Newton Abbot. The final view is from a point not shown before on the bank by the cattle dock as 4547 departs with its single E147 coach.

Here she is with the new Bachmann shunters truck. http://www.flickr.com/photos/26465928@N02/2634361321/
I'd prefer her in green though.

OK how about Jack Chisolm ?
P
Is he the same bloke who played centre half for the Argyle in the 50s.When you were a laddo.

I suggest Gilbert Barnatt for the bloke's name; he will enjoy that!
I don't think so as being an Eastern man it wouldn't meet with his approval.

Saw this and thought of you Steve with the 42xx being a hot topic. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Photo-Ex-GWR-42xx-Class-No-4283-at-Cardiff-Canton-Shed-Yard-6-5-51-/370789033558?pt=UK_Collectables_Railwayana_RL&hash=item5654bfa656

Here's a close up of another 'resident' sat on the bench on the up platform. This is where you lot come in.For amusement, can anyone come up with a suitable name for him.A Dickensian name might be appropriate as used by Mikkel on his Farthing blogs. Anyway here he is chatting to the porter our good friend Mike Roper. The sun is shining today and he will be getting a sweat on carrying those cases. The down milk and parcels has just rattled through hauled by the Hall...

Some of you might remember the prototype thread Andy Y started a few months back.I posted this photo of a scene I wanted to recreate with my Hornby Castle. So heres the Ben Brooksbank photo with 4081 albeit a bit later than my period as 5011 'Tintagel Castle' comes by on an up express to Newton Abbot.

Its the weekend and here we find something not RTR on a down express. This Castle is one of the Finching sisters favourites as they have a soft spot for the fireman.
So here we have my venerable old Wills Finecast Castle 4097 'Kenilworth Castle' of Laira shed. Please be gentle with the old girl. She knows her time is up and will be replaced by the new sexier model from Hornby any time soon. Speed to the West as they say round these parts.

Thanks Rob - this looks the part - brass kits do scare me though!
Looks like oil/grease to me Mickey, phew.
Yes, and it's one of his 'skill builder' range - probably ideal for a soldering numpty like me.
I'm sure Adrian Marks [buckjumper] could give you some advice.I bet its well detailed.

One item that I've not found yet is a 7mm equivalent of the GWR 12 Ton China Clay Wagon O13 (the Parkside 4mm kit is Product Code: PC82). I'll be needing a few of these - any ideas on a source? (I know about the forthcoming Kernow / Dapol RTR version but would prefer a kit and don't fancy spending £59 on a wagon and then throwing bits away). Looks like I'm not alone in wandering this....
Morning Chris.I know there's a brass version in this range.Lovely looking kits. http://www.ukmodelshops.co.uk/catalogue/wep#.UV_YVdnySuI

Just a heads up on a renumbered BR version on ebay.No connection.

I keep pressing the like button but the layout is worth more than that.
I know the feeling well Alan every time I look at Wencombe.

Indeed.
Snooze and you lose.

Augustus will not be pleased; that coach has got lavs!
'Through coaches' - them were the days my luvvers (Devon term for people to whom one was talking).
So Rob, when do we get the 4p.m. off 83D up Mail from down west then?
Quack
Definitely not as I don't own any.
Hi Rob. I like that patch of bare earth where the platform ends in the last photo. Any tips on how you did that?
I used this product http://www.treemendusmodels.co.uk/productguidegroundworkmaterials.html Again not cheap but very good. The seller is on here and did the scenics on Over Peover too.Just use pva and sprinkle through a sieve.

Anyway a little less conversation and little more action as 45xx class 4547 pulls up behind an express to bring the through coach onto the branch. Not sure this is correct but I'm sure someone will say if it isn't.Note the coach roofboards that read 'Paddington and Kingsbridge'.The last photo shows the platform to good effect as the prairie pulls the coach towards the overbridge.

Sadly, I don't have Brent... But in 1947 a single Newton Abbot to Paddington was ..... 56/- that is £2.80 (I think!!) ... According to Google 56/- would equal £391 in today's money..... FGW charge £121
Sorry slightly off topic, I've been scanning the 1947 Timetable!
Btw - Can we just check the timing for that branch-line working, I assume the 4:15pm ex-Kingsbridge is running late.... it was due at Brent at 4:50pm, yet I see it was caught / edited at 5:27pm - Just checking !! :-)
Fantastic Neal and thanks.I can't guarantee to stick to the times as believe it or not I actually have to go to work too.

Lovely Robin.
Is 3864 hauling the Bachmann Cattle vans as described further up?
Yes and a Hall will be on a milk and parcels shortly. Followed by a Castle on an express......
The coach is an E147 as discussed here http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/49589-gwr-b-set-diagram-e147/

A Nod To Brent - a friendly thread, filled with frivolity, cream teas and pasties. Longing for the happy days in the South Hams 1947.

A good question Rich and yes I do use a vacuum, very carefully. You can get those mini vacs but the power isn't very good so providing you don't go mad the normal house type is perfect.Be gentle.I also have an old make up/blusher brush for rolling stock, rooves mainly. My garage is quite clean but a fleece would be a great idea.If the scenics is well glued down you won't have a problem using a vac.
