A toad with a Laira branding.

If you're betting I've not got the book then you have lost. If you're betting on the 34063 229 Sqd then you have also lost! (Mind you, I'm not sure where that particular loco is as it's not in the regular roster for TG).

I thought you might have the book but not 34063.Its on page 42.

  2. Well as you can imagine I've been scanning my books to find an excuse to run a Southern train through Brent. ;) I have a vast library for them. :jester:

However all is not lost as in Peter Gray's book Steam on west of England main lines there's a photo shewing Battle of Britain class 34063 '229 Squadron' leaving Aller Junction for Plymouth in 1959.

I bet Spams aint got this one. :jester:

According to the book regular engines during the war were N class with three daily workings including one goods turn but by the 50s West Country Pacifics took over.An U class mogul was used on one occasion.

  3. This one: http://www.alsrm.org.uk/ ??

Looks like a cracking list (even though I'm going to have to look a few of them up to see what they make / sell):

Agenoria Models, Amberly Services, APK Models, Derek Bidwell, Ceynix Railway Trees, Chalk Garden Rail, Connoisseur Models, B D Coutts, CPL Products, Derby Trees & Scenics, Dragon Models, Duncan Models, Easy-Build, Eileens Emporium, Finescalebrass ( UK ) Ltd, Gladiator Models, Golden Age Models, Laurie Griffin,  Haywood Railway, Helmsman Electronics, Hobby Holidays, E J Hughes, Invertrain Model, Just Bases, Just Like The Real Thing, Cyril Kennett, Ian Kirk Model, Lionheart Trains, Masterpiece Models, Metalsmith, Meteor Models, M&M Models, Model Express, MSC Models, Nimrod Europe, Noodle Books, Oakwood Press, Omen Miniatures, Phoenix Precision Paints, Premier Components, Roxey Mouldings, Robin L Saxton, Scorpio Models, Seven Models, Skytrex, Slater's Plastikard, Peter Spoerer, Squires Model & Craft Tools, Gordon Stemp Eng' Models, John Sutton Books & Models, Swanage Models, Walsall Model Industries, Western Wagon Works, Williams Models, Roy Wood Models, Woodpecker Books!

Western Wagon Works sell some nice kits as I used to drool/dream when I saw their stand at Telford on the occasions I went.

  4. Don't forget there was also an alien invasion with those LM Pacifics in the mid 50s when the Kings had a problem (see the Steam Around Plymouth by Maurice the Dart).

Then there was the LNER getting in on the act even earlier in 48 and wasn't there also a LMS Royal Scot then as well?

Rob, look into my eyes (ignore the beak)  and repeat after me..." I really do want to have foreign loco's, I really do want to have foreign loco's (etc. ad infinitum......)

Oh, I forgot the USAs during the war..........then there were the 'secret' overnight workings before D day; oh yes, so many excuses.............. :rtfm:  :superstition:

Of course you are quite correct in everything you say BUT there's nothing better than GWR or Western stock for that matter to run through Brent.

  5.

Unless Hornby are making a big boo boo and only making the one front end as Lode Star, then the BR 'Abbey' version should be fine for the rest of the class.

A bump for this thread to ask if using the BR version, could I rebrand the tender to G badge W post war livery and add the firebox lining.Would this be correct and I could then rename to a good selection. The only problem would be the smokebox number though.
