  1. Did it have a reduced flange on any of the middle axles?
  2. Many rumours regarding our PE teachers and how close they seemed to be to some of the older female students. Again, only rumours and hearsay so we are never certain if it was just playful flirting from the girls that the teachers just played along with or something more sinister. Some of the antics wouldn't fly these days.
  3. I got the full video from Sunday uploaded, nothing exciting really plus I really need to be careful how I angle the helmet cam, but nice to get out and about and splash some puddles.
  4. What a fun day, tried to politely advise a "colleague" where a ticket should go (i.e. not to me!) and was promptly told "if i need help i'll ask." The words "stick it up your arse then" comes to mind. I didn't respond, but next time someone asks, help won't be forthcoming. A possible job has come up slightly more money and sociable hours, so might not be enduring the incompetence for much longer. Hopefully it will be timed well enough for me to still be eligible for the December bonus before leaving.
  5. "A lot of cars have a live terminal separate to the battery terminal so you can attach another feed and keep the car 'live' while you change a battery." I don't think mine has that (2009 Mk5 Golf Estate). I can keep it mechanically locked if I only unlock the drivers side. Don't think mine has separate live terminals. Nothing to stop me connecting something in parallel, but tbh I only have to reset the clock when swapping out the battery. When funds allow I'll get the drain investigated but until then I can mitigate the issue with my trickle charger. I also have a solar panel that I can use to charge (well, maintain it) via the OBD port, but during winter its a bit useless.
  6. Think i've still got a parasitic drain on my battery. Car was dead yesterday after being parked for maybe a week. It seems to be very very slow, like it takes weeks to finally drain even with use. I've got a 2amp smart charger for it though so gonna leave it overnight to properly charge. Can't really afford to get it investigated and diagnosed properly at the moment though. Its a bit 'dodgy' taking the battery out though, there's a sequence of unlocking the driver door disabling the alarm, whipping out the battery then locking the drivers door with the key. Otherwise either the alarm goes mental or my passenger doors are unlocked leaving it unsecured.
  7. Can't believe that's still going on Big Jim. Had the school had the balls to address it with the parents and the parents not be complete bells, the issue would be long resolved.
  8. This one wasn't a problem, its actually a bridge that the water started flowing over so I knew it was a flat surface underneath (plus a dog had a good splash before I sent it). The photo looked worse than it was in the end. I took it the same way I would in a car, make progress and be sure not to stop. Was certainly feeling a bit mad today and didn't mind getting wet and muddy. With the railings at the side and the flat surface, its a calculated risk, if I came off the worst that would've happened would have been getting very cold and wet, while looking a bit of a tit. ... I got both wet and muddy! Here's the clip...
  9. Went for a bit of a ride out for several hours exploring, looking for muddy tracks etc, had to ford this 'stream'! I did manage to get through ok, was maybe about a foot deep, but kept the bike in a low gear and pedalled like a chimp on crack. ...yes that is a dog walker shimmying along the railing!
  10. that font on the cabside numbers really bothers me
  11. If BBC radio is your thing, take a look at the Dads Army radio series, there's 3 of them on there, great entertainment for about 30 hours!
  12. Doesn't look like "Inside the Third Reich" is on there, though Audible do seem to add stuff I request (weirdly) so I'll request it. Albert Speer is an interesting character I need to do more digging on. The "apologetic Nazi", I think we've got to take his opinion with a pinch of salt. Ironically, I did have Mein Kampf in audiobook format, but Audible removed it. I noticed when I couldn't find it in my library, and I got Audible to give me back the credit.
  13. Being an audiobook fan, and a long term Audible subscriber I've gone back to listen to what was my first audiobook, The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich by William Shirer. One of the best books on nazi Germany. I got this with my free token for joining and frequently return to it. 50 something hours of the buildup and destruction of nazi germany. In the time I've been subscribed I've acquired over 300 titles, both with the monthly token and occasionally buying the cheap credits. What are you listening to?
  14. Sometimes we need to be more pragmatic with things, yeah some idea's are nice, but in practice they don't really work. The internet, particularly twitter, is a cesspool of opinions. Go to your pub, model club, society etc and in most cases you'll have perfectly reasonably conversations with very different people.
  15. Holy thread creep Batman! lol I think for the next 16mm show, as its no longer local I think our club is going to do a car-pool. Saves unnecessary expenditure as the new location isn't so easy for public transport for us. With a few of us being infirm it makes sense to get 4/5 people in the one car and chip in for fuel.
  16. There is some completely illogical timetables with Stansted (in my experience). To me, Stansted tends to be the go-to for the cheap early morning flights and I think the latest arrival from Brum (and other stops) on the XC service is 22:41 and the earliest arrival is 0841 which is useless for those on a 6am flight.
  17. Travel broadens the mind, restrict travel with a carbon allowance and you will end up with local villages for local people everywhere.
  18. If I go to Warley by train its a painful XC service to Birmingham NS and change for Birmingham international. Now I know those are run using 2/3 car 170's and are chocker full, as I've done this journey before. Having to travel back on a train where I'm potentially standing after walking around the NEC for 7 hours is daunting, and it makes carrying any purchases a bit awkward too. That's also not taking into account the price. Now to drive its maybe quarter of a tank of diesel and a parking fee, the advantage is that I can arrive and leave when I want and I also have somewhere to drop off any purchases during the day to save my back. Edit: something to add is our disabled members, model railways arguably has a higher average age than most hobbies, many with mobility issues.
  19. Took a wee jaunt out to some of the villages, being in one of the flattest parts of the country certainly opens you up to gusts of wind. Half my city is closed off today due to the great eastern run, which has the advantage of less local traffic but only a few places where you can cross the route. I also found a little trail, at the park nearby that was quite fun, but a couple of maintenance issues I need to address. The crank guard will need replacing as its snapped and the rear suspension spring is creakier than your parents bed at 2am. Not sure if it really needs replacing or just lob a ton of grease at it.
  20. What a pallava today, I'm really thankful that I've got a good garage nearby and one of the best tyre fitting services just a bit further down the road. So there's me this morning dropping the car off for the MOT. Like an expectant father I'm waiting at home for the news the child is in good health. Just before lunch I get the call, expecting all to be well and good. The news comes through:- CAR MOT CHECK COMPLETE STOP CAR FAILED MOT STOP "Oh noes!" I think. So online I go to check what's wrong: "Do not drive until repaired (dangerous defects): Nearside Rear Tyre has a bulge, caused by separation or partial failure of its structure (5.2.3 (d) (ii))" So I give the local tyre place a quick call to see if they can fit me in, they couldn't be sure but said to drop it off and they'll give me a call when its done. Right'o, off I tod to the tyre shop. Couple of hours later, I get a text: NEW TYRES FITTED STOP CAR READY FOR COLLECTION STOP Right, hopped onto the bike to get down there quickly. I then cough up the dosh for the two tyres (£170!), load the bike into the car and toodle pipski'd back to the garage. Thankfully if done within within 10 days the garage can do a partial retest, and my local checked the work has been satisfactory and issued the pass certificate, didn't charge me for the retest. I still have one minor issue to rectify, I'll have to source a replacement alloy wheel but this is an advisory which I will rectify in due course. "Monitor and repair if necessary (advisories): Offside Front Road wheel slightly distorted (5.2.2 (c) (i))" All in all, I've spent about £500 getting her through the MOT, with todays shenanigans as well as the expensive work troubleshooting and fixing the airbag crash sensor. But the car was tested, failed, fixed and re-tested in the space of a few hours.
  21. Generally I find Peterborough to be rather safe, maybe one or two area's its probably not wise to 'stand out' as such, but generally I feel its ok. Safety in numbers too sometimes, there's often fellow veg at the decent spots.
  22. Not a scam, I have this book and it's fantastic. It's available direct via the publisher. Simon has put a lot of time and research into it and it's a refreshing look at Edward Thomson's work. https://strathwood.co.uk/products/edward-thompson-wartime-cme-due-in-december-2021-pre-order-today?gclid=Cj0KCQjwsp6pBhCfARIsAD3GZua3ECJ6U4bgG7IyyWKyA6MzE39bBUHF4ZoJF4_KMeVPhXH9Iglje-IaAoy-EALw_wcB&fbclid=IwAR2IIBsto8bZMdnAZbkoKLMFisnrp_mPjlFUMMlQ17wqf4TjbKzUCewTZjM
