  1. I totally agree, to some extent Hornby, and certain other manufacturers seem to be forgetting where there roots are, they seem to be more interested in the "collector" market than the good old "modeller" market. Another issue is with the 3 figure prices of modern models it puts prospective new modellers off, design clever would possibly give those new modellers a starting point. When I started modelling if you wanted super detail you went out and bought detail kits and parts and created your own model, whereas now you just buy a model and stick it on your track or in a cabinet, no personality
  2. Its not so much finding the technology to get the loco moving, that's just down to the gearing on the electric motor (even diesel locos use electric traction motors). Its finding a good, viable, sustainable non pollutant source of the power or power unit.
  3. There is only one thing these people should take with them to shoot these wild animals with. Big zoom lenses on there cameras !
  4. Just tried this site and as you say the links are dead, however it was showing "maintenance" as the web address, so they may just be redoing the website.
  5. Tri ang had a model many, many years ago which would be ideal, it was a 4 wheeled vehicle with a big fan at the rear ( Wind power ). On a more serious note, what will happen to freight train, will they only operate under wires from hub to hub for the freight to then be put onto many more battery powered vehicles to clog up the local road networks.
  6. I remember spending quite a while watching a shunter fly shunting MGR wagons the first time I ever got to Toton, which was 1989.
  7. Unfortunatley there is no easy way, you will have to find a way to detach the interiors from the shell. You could try gently trying to get a scalpel between and easing them apart, I sometimes use a little plastic weld as it can sometimes help soften the joint but be very careful around glazing and any paint work you don't want damaging.
  8. You could probably get away with some if your modelling certain areas of Wales (such as Snowdonia or Brecon beacons), Lake district, Yorkshire dales or North Yorkshire.
  9. I could quite happily find a home for one of those, think I might have to start saving up. Only problem would be what livery, think I would have to go for Scotrail intercity with the highland stag from Inverness.
  10. Could you imagine the poachers head and shoulders stuffed and mounted and hung on a tree at the lions den.
  11. No the driver wasn,t injured, I believe there were no injuries however the issue of the guard was highlighted on the local news on the day. As a broader issue, surely there is a health and safety case to retain a guard on trains carrying passengers as if a D.O.O train was involved in an accident which left the driver unable to carry out there duties what would happen to the passengers. Another point is in an incident such as the Scotish unit derailment recently it would have been a case for the train crew to protect the derailed unit by placing detonators correctly which as it was single line would be needed in both directions.
  12. This incident has also highlighted the argument about the removal of guards from trains. If this was a D.O.O train there could have been a very grave danger for passengers, whereas the guard was able to take charge and keep the situation under control.
  13. I remember in the 80s seeing several old Fordson tractors along the North Yorkshire coast being used to pull fishing cobles in and out of the sea on a daily basis.
  14. Is that what you'd call a prototype for everything idea, very nice way to loose the odd wagon.
  15. I would have thought when your talking about electronics in a class 50 the first thing would be thick rubber gloves and rubber soled boots, and a seriously good earthing cable.
  16. Sounds more like a short circuit somewhere, the controller is designed to cut out in the event of short circuit. When you dismantle the loco check the wires to make sure the insulation is still good, check it doesn't rub or catch anywhere it shouldn't and check the wheels are all the correct way around and still insulating correctly. Also when you reassemble the loco make sure all bearings are lubricated and free running.
  17. As already said, now is the time to offer our thoughts to those who have lost loved ones and to those who have suffered injuries. Now is not the time to speculate on the cause or offer opinions, or point fingers and lay blame, now is time to let the experts investigate and give correct, informed details that will help make the industry safer and better for all.
  18. Has anyone done a second generation hybrid as in the 150/1+150/2 mix or 156 + 158 which occurred when unit shortages were made worse after collision damage or also the 150/1 + 150/2 +150/1 and the 3 car 156s which were used when strengthened sets were required.
  19. Aren't those bits of plastic there to help holding the cars onto the cardboard packaging when in transit, you usually throw all that away when you take them out of the box.
  20. So it looks like this year may be the last year I'll bother with as by the sound of it live races will only be on Sky TV from next year and I have no intension of paying to watch,(typical Yorkshire man, tight as a ducks a##e).
  21. Find a pen or pencil that will mark the plastic and draw on you windows using a ruler to keep them neat. Next get a drill and drill a hole at the corners of each window and then join the dots using the ruler
  22. I have used some very nice little pins that were left over after my daughters had been doing some scequine art kits.
  23. As 47832 was allocated to Crewe for the first month after it was renumbered it may have been used on these sorts of service prior to moving to the cross country pool
  24. If they can't reprogram the loco they may be able to take it to there local model shop and for a small fee they should reprogram and test run it for them. I thought chipped logos should be able to run on standard dc without any problems, however I could be wrong.
  25. Yes that logo was for the short lived network North West, which saw many units given the NW logo and some a complete relivery with grey main body colour and red and white bodyside stripe. This livery appeared on class 142s, 150s and 323s and the NW logo was replaced by the words Regional Railways.
