  1. But the relief lines are slower 100mph on the bit that I've driven over and they didn't give me any relief. Just (G)WR trying to be different again, they rebuild Reading and resignal in a manner almost deliberatley awkward for a driver.
  2. Largest size fitted to locos was 2ft length with 20inch diameter head, info comes from http://www.lanarkshiremodels.com/lanarkshiremodelsandsupplieswebsite_020.htm , obviously 4mm products but the full size dimensions quoted will help for other scales. Note there are several pages for locos and wagons so you may find other buffer sizes relevant in future.
  3. I came across a distance shot of this type of train in Horbury cutting, unfortunatley I didn't save the image. The tank wagon was probably an ex ICI Chlorine 4 wheel tank as seen in some images from Paul Bartletts site. The other 2 wagons appeared to be a Grampus and either a Medfit or 3plank and a ex LMS Stanier 20ton brake for mess or stores use. It's the equipment carried which I'd like details or pictures of.
  4. I remember being asked that many times in the weeks after it appeared, the mug has lasted in daily use longer then most of those Princesses in the clip.
  5. My coffee mug is finally to be pensioned off, a 21st birthday present in Feburary 1983 it will now get relegated to paint brush storage before the handle gives up completely.
  6. Rather than risk copyright issues check the images here, http://www.gcrleicester.info/html/trains.html
  7. Sadly not, but I do have a shot of a gray Presflo with Snowcrete logo and the yellow painted bracing. See here https://www.flickr.com/photos/28630680@N06/albums/72157614306282272
  8. The signal 374 is passing lasted right upto the Victoria rebuild in the early '90's.
  9. Common power was usually a 47 but 37's used to show up, load was 10 100ton tanks of aviation fuel, thats the only thing I ever worked in. I assume the trains would have worked via the Fallowfield line when Guide Bridge was the crew change piont. I didn't transfer to Victoria until late '86 after the closure of Guide Bridge and the Fallowfield line was closed in '89 straight after the Piccadilly approach tracks were remodelled. So before Glazebrook closed Ashbury's was the regular relief point. There was also a working from Cardiff via Crewe to Trafford Park/Metal Box at Westhoughton. There was rarely traffic, steel wire for Trafford but always VDA vans load with alloy coils for Metal Box. Train was routed via Stockport, Denton, Ashbury's were we left the VDA's. Straight into to Trafford Park with the steel wire if it ran, then light back to Ashbury's for the vans. Via Philips Park and Miles Platting for relief just before 7am. Power for this train was quite often a 37/9.
  10. Last journey, Mantle Lane, Coalville. Being propelled towards Marcrofts, July 1980.
  11. Micro Sol is also good at removing unwanted lettering and Bachmann "weathering" , also takes all the lines off your cutting mat when attempting to mop up a spill!
  12. Not totally relevent but both Oxford rd and Altrincham had train crew depots, even post 25kv. As a driver at Vic I knew at least one ex Oxford rd 2nd man and 25 years ago when I first moved into our current house a near neighbour introduced himself as a former Alty driver. Platforms 13/14 at Picc were know as Tully's island after one of the two regular supervisors, Mr Tully would stride up and down the platform with a megphone annoucing trains. You just had to make sure he didn't use the thing when answering questions. There was regular freight, obviously traffic for Trafford Park (usually routed via the Styal line) but also at least once aweek tank trains off the Eastern for Glazebrook. These were booked for a crew change at Ashbury's, a Piccadilly driver and guard(post Guide Bridge closure) took over, however if the engine was a cl37 this caused problems because of lack of traction knowledge at Picc. Victoria crews to the rescue again. Old Trafford turnbacks on match days as well.
  13. Come on , I can state without doubt, the cause of the derailment was somebody nudged the baseboard.
  14. I'm about to start a little detail project on a class 40, as I want to do this loco I'd like to know if the pipe work running across the boiler water tank appears on both sides, I assume it's some sort of drain system fo the engine bed plate. Appears to be a mod on mainly Scottish locos in tandem with mu removal.
  15. As young 2nd man at Coalville one of our night turns involved a light engine move to Wellingbrough for the ex Hayes and Arlington stone empties the 45 would come off and we'd return to Coalville in the early dawn, class 8 with the 20's . When the job changed to fully fitted ('79 I think) it became taxi to Leicester for a ride on the cushions to Wellingbrough, I don't recall train details but it was a parcels of some description with a coach for staff use. Seem to recall departing Leicester around 1am and the train started at Sheffield, but this nearly 40 years ago.
  16. I did find most of the range listed at a well known retailer, but sods law the only one not in stock was the one I wanted to see. My excuse is I don't normally model in "OO"! I can now order from my local model railway shop though .
  17. Am I missing something or have Peco not but any link to the actual kits?
  18. The irony is around 10years ago, when Bachmann first introduced this wagon I rehashed a small fleet from the BP/Shell livery into Esso using Paul Barletts photos as a reference. I sold them on to a friend and they occasionally appear on Dewsbury Midland. I went to a bit of effort to replace the ladders, mounting cut down signal ladder etches to match the single ladder most of the Esso ones seem to have. Time get hold of my friend to borrow the fleet for a bit of a look.
  19. I've tried to trace the running numbers from the Bachmann 45t ESSO version to the prototype but can't find what the model is based on, anyone know? I don't mind renumbering but I also notice ladder placement variations as well. I also does anyone know when the orange hazchem panels were introduced, my own time frame is circa '74, just post TOPS.
  20. Dent on Landrover adds character anything else adds anxiety!
  21. Custom Finishing do 2 types of ballast regulator, a third kit is produced with all the plow blade attachments. I also notice Walthers are doing the Jordon spreader again.
  22. Back in the 50's my grandfather ran a farm and milkround, he used a horse and cart right upto the end of the 50's, The horse certainly knew his way back from the pub!
  23. Not running a rail replacement bus then? Seriously $35m for garden, clearly he has his priorities right.
  24. Leaving Oldham Mumps for Rochdale, I've actual stuck on the curve leaving the platform, rain tight curve with check rail, 142 on curved platform from a standing start.
  25. I am running JMRI on a £100 ex schools laptop with Windows7 with no issues, poor pickup and dirty track are nearly always the culprits, but keeping Java upto date is important.
