  1. My 1420 arrived recently, test ran ok on a very short section of track . It was then given a good thrash with an auto coach around Dewsbury Midland (no one noticed) and all is well. lt's now weathered and awaiting a recently purchased Thompson brake to get the same treatment. A Lenz decoder is on the bench but I'll give it another runout around Dewsbury Midland before the decoder goes in. Hopefully I can set the CV's to deal with the motor type.
  2. Plenty to go at, I've been out of the OO scene for sometime and had forgotten all about Southern Pride and MJT, Looks like my attempt at a Redbank van train is on!
  3. Anyone done a conversion, they were used in newspaper traffic for bundling and also had a toilet added. Where can I source a mk1 style corridor conection in 4mm?
  4. This is exactly what happened on the 02.15 Manchester/Leeds newspapers. The train would be routed into the normally westbound platform and whilst the driver nipped to make brew the rear 2 vehicles were detached and later shunted by an outstationed Healey Mills jocko. I'm not aware of how the empty vans returned. At Dewsbury the same train propelled back off the viaduct through a groundframe worked crossing to use the west bound platform for unloading. Using the westbound platforms was done for the ease of access, direct to waiting WH Smith vans I worked this train just before the demise of the traffic. Usual power by this time was a class 31 with eth and 6 vans about 4 of which were GUVs with tables and lighting. The train carried newspaper staff doing bundling, loco returned light to Victoria. Another regular parcels/postal working we worked was a York/Cardiff, from my time(late '86) the routing changed slightly, intially the train detached a van at Staylebridge and then continued to Crewe via Denton and Stockport. The Victoria bank engine was diagrammed to bring the single van down to Vic, this changded and a Victoria driver travelled out pass to York to work it as far as Stockport. This changed to going via Guide Bridge direct to Piccadilly, where an electric was backed up. For modellers train usully loaded 9 including a TPO(2?) eth 47 for power except on one occasssion where it rolled into York with a coal sector 37. Train came from Heaton.
  5. Rover V8 P5B saloon or coupe or a P6? Must have been galeforce is all I can say!
  6. The 2CV engine also produces a spark to both plugs simultaneously which cuts down are on the points. Good job too considering their location directly on the end of the crank behind the fan.
  7. Now this is body roll, as the ex owner of several Dyane's in the past I can confirm that this perfectly normal. The worrying thing is I have a real urge to revisit my mispent motoring youth. This was my favourite https://www.flickr.com/photos/28630680@N06/2886384394/in/album-72157607475027734/
  8. With my 14xx due soon, the as yet untouched autocoach will get the same treat as above. Cheers for the pictures.
  9. Did anyone here ever get to drive the Mk5 Cortina GLS? It had better dampers/anti roll bars, even new it was a rare model not be confused with the runout Crusader and Capri LS. The 2.3 V6 was certainly nose heavy, interestingly Germans got a V6 2lt for their Taunus/ Cortina line up
  10. This caught my imagination, from the Phyllis Niklin collection. Probably a perfectly harmless scene but I can just imagine a smoke filled backroom full of dodgey looking villians! Bells Farm, Druidsheath.
  11. Well I can't see any buffers on the short bonnet end on the yellow one in the warehouse, should I go Specsavers ? First one,129 has the jacking/lift points lower down.
  12. I have a "nude" Kato GP35 sitting in my to do line, interestingly it cost the same as a liveryed version. Bachmann have realeased 2 or 3 of these https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=Bachmann+ho+ge+45t&client=tablet-android-samsung&prmd=svin&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwivvv3rqfbRAhXGJ8AKHWrMAg0Q_AUICSgD&biw=962&bih=601 .
  13. Popped into my local model railway shop yesterday to pre order the black one, he pretty much echoed what has now apppeared on the Hornby site regarding the full allocation of black ones have been snapped up. With the Peckett and Sentinel Hornby are missing a chance to run an entire Brewery themed range, a tie in with Bass to use their name perhaps. Walthers in the US have done several themes tieing together not just loco's and freight cars but several related buildings, this keeps are range fresh for several years.
  14. Lenz mini and a hardwire with help of a good friend sounds the best option. For the price of the loco I'm happy to put a quality chip in. Mind you I've trawled the Sentinel thread and understand sound can be done, Hornby Magazine, March 2014 edtion.
  15. Just picked a Sentinel and the above decoder is reccommended, I have no experince of this(cheap decoder) or Hornby decoders in general, I assume its tunable, just lacks certain non motor CV's. So do I have a trial or fit a better spec Lenz/Zimo micro. The loco will remain without working lights and silent.
  16. Interesting spotting day yesterday, first a late 60's or very early 70's Mustang converible in blue heading into Stockport then almost immediatley a very rare Ford Thames 400E dropside, not mint but being used as Ford intended. Finally at the back of Old Trafford (cricket) a 60's 4 window Citroen 2CV,ripple bonnet, French reg. Mustang was '71 or '72.
  17. The brain works in mysterious ways, I'd just read a headline about a bob sleigh team having a drugs doping ban lifted then read your reference to IPA before scrolling down the thread to see the picture. "Rmweb in drugs doping scandle" aah well enjoy!
  18. HS2 booking hall and platforms will go adjacent to platform 1, the old NHS building on the station approach is in the final stages of redevelopement to a hotel. The north tower block which is currently home to Northern and Virgin crews is schedualed for demolition, opening up the accees to a new concourse and pltforms for HS2.
  19. As an aside I can add that some Newton Heath drivers were trained on class 50's for the Manchester/Glasgow services. One of the Bradford Barton albums has a picture of a 50 passing Deal street, Manchester Victoria. One of the reasons for the non developement of Mayfield is (I suspect)the plan to quadruple the track layout from there towards Oxford road station.
  20. The whole shared asset area throws up some interesting workings, top & tail short trains, shoving moves with decrepit old C&O/B&O cabooses and try searching "Gresseheimer glass" on Youtube for an end of the line industry. Also plenty of CSX, CR & NS Athearn locos still in the US shops, a patched ex CR GP15 would be top of my list. Nothing worse than having an idea for a layout only to find the locs you want have all been done and sold out!
  21. Well the R&W has to exchange with someone, so here is a small selection of from the class1 department. Not yet posted are SD45-2, SD50 SD60 and a GP40-2 from CSX and a pair of Conrail loco's, GP15-1 and a GP38-2. The UP GP15-1 has no real place on the R&W, I just like GP15's!
