What a difference a day makes, 24 little hou............. Done most of the other modifications,(weights, grab irons) except couplers and roof walk, reading up on NYC 19000 caboose i found that there roof walks where only 4 boards wide and no gaps in between un-like the Trix one which has gaps and is 5 boards wide,i'm going to live with that till i have a chance to build a new one,it may cause a talking point at a exhibition, but to be honest don't think many people will notice (but i'm sure there will be one),she's all weathered and ready for the next time the layouts out at a exhibition, which is St Albans in January. May see you there. Ray -

Yepeeeeee! i done it, finally got myself a NYC caboose, only took me 2 years to find, but i would have missed it if it wasn't for Doctor Quinns vigilance, thanks Nick i owe you one. The original owner has started some of the modifications, shortened the stack, moved the grabs irons nearer the body and added Titchy trains bettendorf trucks, which look ok,(they,ll do for now) but i think the Kadee 581 T section bettendorf is the one i need?. Had it a part (like a kid with a new toy) fully detail inside, which you can't see from the outside!!,needs couplers changed,(to do away with Trix swing coupler thingy) then brakes added on the 2 inside axles, last of all a load of weight, about 2.5 oz,then she just needs weathering and she ready for the road. To say i'm happy is a understatement (little things amuse, little minds) don't you just love it when things like this happen ,i do,well i think this deserves a drink to celebrate. Ray -

I'm in the bike spoke camp as Jack(KISS),found it 100% reliable (only operator error lets it down) The spdt on-on switch is there to lock the point in place, this was added after a failed attempt with servos(had to take springs out of the points) which were not reliable enough for me(thats another story),you could fix wires to the switch for frog power,i've been using this system for years, nothing new,but i'm still getting people asking how my points work and showing them under the layout!! Andrew Only started drinking bengali tiger because of the poor choice in my local spoons (10 pumps,3 abbots,1 ruddles,1cider and 3 available soons),don't know if we''ll get them on draft in our neck of the woods!(we've only just got water!!) On the modeling side done very little,(weathered 2 s1's,here's some photo's of the pair on the local) just can't seem to get going. 415-420 arriving with the morning local due to the length of the train some cars were left the other side of Rust st Backing the 2 loaded hoppers past ICU Mirrors (dog still barking at that mirror) up the spur to Central Hospital (they still have a coal fired boiler) next job, picking up loaded gon from team track and placing it in train droping a box car at Tino Tools Now over to switch 3 Crowns spotting a 40' (were ever i moved that bloke was always in the picture) Last job picking a box car from Goldberger doll (bit quite today, but wait till it's Christmas) Train made up,brake test done, time for a cupper before they set off Heading back across Rust st,nearly done for the day, just a Reefer to pick up on the way back. I'm out at Shipley on the 20/21 November,if any ones in the area come and say hello. Ray -

Well Ian,where do i start, all i can say is my present tipple is Bengal tiger (just got back from a pleasent afternoon drinking it ,hic),but what i can say , their is NO bad beer, just some are better than others, that is my opinion,i not forcing anyone to try it or saying this is the right way or wrong, i'm sure you would agree, Ian.(twisting his arm) Again it's all down to ones personal taste, some like lager, some like wine, thats their choice. We all need educating along the way,but if someone likes lager/wine/tea(or code 100 track) who are we to say thats wrong, why not let them enjoy what they enjoy, life really is to short. Don't get me started on relig..............................,not interested!!!!!!!!!! Ray -

I enjoy building layouts, also enjoy doing exhibition, especially the social side and meeting up with friends,i also love beer!!! As to would i do anything different building a permanent layout,no,i'm quiet happy with what i do and how i do it,sure things could be done better, like track, detailing stock etc,put these things aren't at the top of my list, some people say that track is everything and must be so so,thats there choice and i'm not the one to knock them, i'm happy with code 100/83. Detailing stock just means more to break of,i've lost count how many grab irons i've had to glue back on. It's all down to ones personal tastes and abilities, most of the above only show up when you start taking photos and at the end of the day it's a hobby, not a profession for me,i'm not saying what i do is right, but i'm also not saying this is the way to go either,if we did everything by the book, how long would it take to build that layout, part of the fun is building it,but also part is operating it,taking a few short cuts on the way(ready to run track/stock) helps us(me) to get to our goal. Now where do i start on beer..................! Ray -

Neville Glad you like my epic and you got some good ideas,we can all learn from each other, here's a couple more photo's for your folder. On a bit of a downer with modeling at the present, done now't for months,(even tried the planning on the beer mat routine while in the pub,to no avail, but won't let it beat me,i'll keep trying at the pub!!!) hopefully when the layouts at Shipley in September it may give me my mojo back. With all the protests done and dusted and with a resounding win for the public at large and one in the eye for the accountants, normal service has resumed. It's time to start putting things away in there boxes and start my check list to make sure i don't forget something, this will be the first of many and i still manage to forget things!!!!! See you all on Saturday, lets hope it's a good one and there's loads of heads through the doors! Ray p.s only 4 days to go!!!!!!!!
