He will be, Al.
I suggest a “pre-order” be placed with Brian ahead of the day.

I wonder if 666 was in black or green livery in that image.

Having spent the weekend operating Ewe alongside Pete, I can vouch for just how good this layout looks and sounds.
Visually, it's an understated delight and for someone who welcomes the less is more approach Wenford Dries really floated one's boat.

Indeed. I do like what is arguably your signature level of finish on your models. Very nice.

Thanks Mikkel.
I'm not in a rush but food for thought. 40cm is the usual depth of my layouts. It's surprising how much depth a board this width can provide.
The stuctures, as ever, will be small and low so this will no doubt help the illusion and just a couple of key accessories, yard crane etc.

Thank you Mikkel.
Yes, exactly that.
I'm thinking a very muted pallet with just the odd building for a splash of colour.
Mmmmm....
Just out of interest, how big is the stables diorama ?.....asking for a friend....

Morning Mikkel,
Due to my fledgling ( very ) interest in things steamy and Italian, I was drawn to this part of your blog by the open, minimal feel and initial colouring of the stable scene.
With no knowledge of 1950s Italian railways ( in particular the kind of backwaters I like to portray ) and struggling to find images of what I want, I'm looking anywhere and everywhere for inspiration for a future "Italia diorama with movement"
It's the openness of this scene prior to adding the trees etc. As has been said, the Shell Island feel to it all in the pre-tree state.
Much to give thought to.........
Not very GWR at all but take away the modernish buildings to the right............

Morning Jonners,
Reading through this I have to say, hat's off for giving this a go.
One observation if I may.......
I'm believe using the RTR keeper plate is a non starter. The pick ups on the Dapol/Hornby job are on the top of the chassis and contact the upper face of the rear of the tyres.
Perhaps something could be cobbled up to dangle said pick ups from the top of the chassis, alá RTR ?

Morning Jamie.
You raise so many good points in a wonderfully articulated and thought provoking blog entry.
I was totally drawn in and am still mulling things over.
I'm a bit odd I suspect but I find things 'gel' when I have a building or two to plonk about the place. I lack imagination so I can only really visualise the layout when I can actually see the buildings in place as it were. But as it happens, this doesn't always work out well.....
You see, you're absolutely spot on regarding sidings needing to do something. Sheep Dip suffers from this with all three sidings being compromised in some way or another. This was entirely down to a lack of forward thinking and I would certainly do things differently now. Lesson learnt.
I'm with Mikkel regarding Brambles. It looks splendid as a stand alone project, let alone as part of a bigger layout. This concept works well and I would put forward Jerry Clifford's Smiths Wharf as an example.
Looking forward, as always, to see how this progresses.

I don't frequent the blog sections of this erstwhile forum very often but I'm glad I did on this occasion.
This looks to have splendid possibilities.

Nice work,Mark.
I'm also looking forward to the Hattons coaches.
That said, the Hornby pre-grouping liveries are quite tempting.

I've stumbled into this by accident and it has provoked not a small amount of thought......last thing I need at the moment is tiny trains but never say never...

Have you the link to the Modelmaster transfers you used here please Mark. Asking for a friend.
Would that be the same 'friend' who now has a little green pannier.......?

Great news indeed CK.
I'm glad you have decided to retain a green Ivatt 2MT at Kernow Towers.
A nice useful addition to the roster
That Sheep Bloke can be very persuasive of course. Going all Eastern Region I'm sure he will be acquiring an Ivatt 2MT no doubt?
Um............there's a long queue of Eastern Region themed purchases emerging........and yes, an Ivatt is in amongst it all. If I can find one at a sensible price....but not yet....Once again I need to lie low for a bit......just had a bit of a faux pas on Amazon which will take a bit of explaining if I don't intercept the postman.......
