  1. Try as I might I can't get the video to show up properly here. As there is no image, to give an idea what the video is about here is the text: Initially one might think this was a fairly uninspiring subject but the more I looked at this the more interesting it became. For many years I have driven past various local fields and seen box vans grounded and being used as stores, stables or in the case of Funtington near Chichester pig sties! (However since making this film all of them had been removed when there had been ten or more in the recent past) I have always liked them as models so initially decided to make a short film based on my Heljan class 28 Co-Bo and the famous Condor freight service it used to work. But then I decided I’d like to preserve on film the actual box vans. Glad I did as another farmer is in the process of getting rid of his, so while they have done really well to survive since the 60s when they were sold out of use to farmers and others, their time now is extremely limited indeed. So in this film I combine in a somewhat sentimental way my models busily hauling box vans around and the grounded vans I found here in West Sussex UK. I felt quite sad making the film, imagining how these vans were once the focus of much attention as they trundled about the country stacked high with all manner of goods, and now found themselves gradually rotting away with nature claiming them back.
  2. Hi all Hope you will enjoy this sentimental look at local vans: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EsGa-vi55j0
  3. Hi guys I started this thread before I was told about this one. Any info would be most kind. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/98968-12-ton-vent-vans/

    Hornby P2

    How did you do that!!!
  8. Aha! now that does sound plausible! looking at the cassette I can make out that we had a trip on that very line, steam hauled Lydham Manor??? I was 12 at the time!! I wonder
  9. Well I really don't understand this, I'll dig out the cassette recording and see if I can find something to play it on.
  10. Warships then? Wish I could take a screen shot out of my mind
  11. Hi, 100% on the date and I had a little book where I had noted down headcodes but not numbers I vividly recall the loco colours, a cassette recording made at the time refers to them! How very odd????
  12. These so take me back to a family holiday in 1976! wow
  13. What an enjoyable and fascinating thread! I've always liked the Hydraulics but was a bit too young to take much notice at the time. I recall a family holiday to Devon in 1976, visited Dawlish! and remember seeing Maroon, Blue and I think sand colored locomotives dashing past. Mum would not let me waste photos on the box brownie so none were taken sadly. Just of late I have been getting into them more, especially as a good friend and work mate used to work on them when he was at Old Oak back in the 70s I recently made this video depicting them using my model collection but sounds of the real thing. If you use imagination it's possible to place yourself anywhere on the Western. It should carry you along on it's own but if not there is a link to a full script. Hope you enjoy it https://www.dropbox.com/s/e3d82pk818c7eee/A%20Day%20with%20Western%20Hydraulics%20and%20others.pdf?dl=0

    Hornby P2

Not wishing to promote my videos but I have sorted my P2 out for about £12 and a little work. Here is the main one but you will find a sequence of them showing how to open the loco etc.
  16. Mine has been running well ever since I did my easy mod on the jack cranks, but it's now clear the gears and motor bearings need lubrication. Has anyone done this without destroying the loco? I had a look but can't find a way in. Thanks
  17. Hi, sorry for you mate, I have been in a similar situation. You need to call and speak to Mark Lodge, he is the manager there and there is no reason to cancel the voucher just because you want your loco back for clear sentimental reasons. Taking that attitude is at best unkind. and they have not done that with me. Tanya sounds about 16 and is probably on work experience where as Mark knows his stuff. They are dreadful at answering emails which is a pain when you work shifts and can't get at the phone. If it had not been for my wife calling for me my matter would not be on its way to resolution. Phone and speak to Mark, he should take care of you.
  18. Hi all I just purchased one of these lovely looking tanks from my local shop and found that it derailed very easily, especially when being pushed. Placing it on a sheet of glass it was easy to see that the middle pair of wheels was causing it to rock, i.e. they are too high. It's only a fraction but sufficient to cause the issue. My answer to this was to remove the two outer wheel sets and replace with Hornby metal wheels which seem to be ever so slightly bigger. The result? perfect running. The two wheel sets from the tanker have been redeployed in a four wheel wagon and also run perfectly. Hope this might help others. Picture is after the changes. Happy weekend
  19. OK nearly the last update I think. After a deal of pressing and a number of phone calls Hornby have made me an acceptable offer now. It would seem they looked high and low for a new chassis for me but drew a blank and having checked the new class 31 plans it seems this chassis just will not fit my old body. The entire sad class 31 is being sent back along with a nice offer against something else I had ordered. Currently investigating possible alternate chassis for my old body, might see if a Lima one can be had or a Hornby railroad one. Also have some enquiries in about a new proper Hornby chassis at favorable cost! Not exactly what I wanted but not too bad. Thanks to all concerned for help. OH and while they have been very helpful, their inability to respond to emails is highly frustrating, where as phone calls get results.
  20. Lets get this much anticipated 71 on our sheds first (if I can help with testing let me know) but for the future we really do need a nice BR blue class 31. Having just lost my Hornby super detailed one to marzac rot I don't have one and they were iconic locos. 31 412 or 414 would be very nice
  21. I think we must congratulate Dave on giving us the massive upgrade of a RTR coreless motor. Portescaps etc always said no feedback way, way back.
