  1. Monk Bar Models in York has always sold Airfix kits of all types in the 17 years I’ve lived in this area. As for Rails, I am constantly being sent email offers of discounted stock with Red, Blue and other coloured boxes… steve
  2. Just watched the last episode and found it very enjoyable. Whether the series will attract any new modellers is open to debate. It does present the hobby in a good light though. What I did find teeth grindingly annoying was the pointless recap after every ad break. I resent it being assumed that I’m too brain dead to remember what was happening two minutes earlier. steve
  3. I put the feeders back out again at the weekend and was rewarded on Monday by my first sighting of a pair of Greenfinches. steve
  4. I emailed Hornby Customer Care this morning about these. Within 15 minutes I had a reply saying the Esso version, R60208, should be arriving this month. Impressive customer service I reckon. steve.
  5. My second copy of DSOTM is a 180gram vinyl remaster. And yes, it does sound (noticeably) better. steve
  6. Unintentional irony? steve
  7. I asked about the yellow North British one and was informed it would be February. steve
  8. And just to make me look a fool, this arrived a few minutes ago… ”Dear Steve, Thank you for your email. This model is still being produced, with the first SKU version expected in the warehouse within the next two weeks. If you could let me know the specific SKU you have on order I would be more than happy to see when the model is due into us. Kind Regards, Sam Coventon Quality Control & Technical Support Assistant” So now we know. steve
  9. I sent a polite email to Hornby asking if this model was still going to be released and, if so, when. Within 24 hours I had a reply with a link for preorders but no mention of a release date. I then sent a reply thanking them for the confirmation and asking again about a date. That was Tuesday but as yet no response… steve
  10. Not everyone uses tension locks in 4mm. I appreciate sprung buffers on my stock that is 3 links fitted. steve
  11. When I was young and watched The Wizard of Oz I wondered how the scarecrow could talk without a brain. Then along came social media. steve
  12. Are these also a foretaste of what we can expect from the 4mm version that was announced earlier in the year? steve
  13. A friend of mine is converting a couple into glamping units. steve
  14. I’m after pre-1970 black & white American police cars in HO 1/87 scale. Especially interested in Classic Metal Works vehicles. Please PM with any offerings. Thanks for looking! steve

    On Cats

Talking with Mrs steve1 last night and she has agreed we can get another cat. I hadn’t been 100% certain she would agree but, thankfully, she has. There are stipulations though. We have our 2 granddaughters, 6 and 10, virtually every weekend. They are both on the autism spectrum, plus the 6 year old has ADHD. The girls were ok with our previous two cats, Olly and Toffy, although Toffy was a bit on the nervous side. However, they were here before the girls were born. We need a good tempered cat that is fine with children whose behaviour can be inconsistent. We’ll go for a rescue of course but it won’t be a straightforward search. Updates as and when… steve
  16. A few images from the show. The first 2 are of one my local dustman’s layouts. steve
