  1. The idea of a private contractor being responsible for national border control seems unacceptable and crazy to me but I agree that sharing your train with a non local passenger might be strange, if you were outside Shengen. Hasn't stopped Europeans commuting between countries by train. Anyway I would think passengers would prefer to be processed in the comfort of their seat. You could also only permit e passports which would only make children and luggage the only problems. It is going to be a lot less expensive than processing aeroplanes.
  2. I know people who are willing to spend 20 hours in a coach to get to their holiday destination. So the issue here is cost over speed. Because of high infrastructure cost perhaps we have perception of HSR as a premium service. Perhaps that changes when the Torys privatise the motorways . As for line capacity. Why not double long trains that arrive via HS1/HS2 and split at Euston.
  3. Can the network afford NOT to build one? It's bad enough having to make change of train within a station but having to transit across town with luggage, kids etc is a pain. Still as as passenger, I imagine I am not an important part of the cost projections!
  4. I am French tourist with bags and I want to visit the Midlands (I suppose this scenario is now going to be very unlikely because of Brexit but in any case) Why is HS1 and HS2 not being connected? How am I going to enjoy frictionless movement between St Pancras and Euston? Surely a link between HS1 and HS2 would also provide the sort of redundancy that was mentioned higher up in this thread, relating to Old Oak Common? I have read the decision not to have a link - and I go away with the impression that the decision seems to be largely for political reasons Am I missing something here..?
  5. As things stand 92001 appears to be the only livery that will be duplicated. Accurascale have already stated it is not in their plans on first run. However as we are crowd funding DJM upfront, I'd expect we can ask for it.
  6. I didn't say I can't share, I just haven't asked him if I can. I doubt that any interest amounting to less than 50 or 100 units would even be worthwhile to the factory. So until we get those sort of responses there is no point distracting him. As Accruscale are duplicating the same EWS and have no obligation to listen to the customer, it seems more sense to ask the crowdfunders who can choose?
  7. I hope you are wrong and I think it is likely we may see more crowdfunding projects. The biggest risk and expense is in the tooling but with the way 3D printing is rapidly developing we are now seeing incredible levels of detail can be achieved at significantly less unit cost (x10 perhaps?) - what may be the barrier is the cost of skilled hand assembly.
  8. A GBRF 66 passed my window today and I had to check this out. I didn't have a camera to hand but it definitely had a clear yellow / orange combination similar to the Hattons model. So they do exist - next time I will have my camera at hand.
  9. I have been asking Dave about EWS 92 031 and whether this livery can be brought to market. The minimum production run has been mentioned and it seems achievable (I am currently not posting this information here as it may be sensitive?) Is there anyone else who is interested in this livery? 10. I have opened up a new thread on the Class 92 The problem is that crowdfunders need to be able to look at product development without distraction, decide if Dave needs to be advised of any errors in the CAD files / 3D prints / EP samples when they arrive. This is currently proving very difficult to do with the way this thread is going at the moment. Hope other crowdfunders will see this is necessary and support accordingly New thread starts here: Class 92 forum - crowdfunders only
  11. Please keep this forum only for crowdfunders who are posting updates, observations and ideas on product development. Please respect our need to have a space of our own to share constructive input and to make the project come to fruition. Thank you
  12. After a lot of deliberation and a bit of a discount - I have just taken delivery of Robert Burns. Having seen the cross arm pantograph for myself - I have to say that Hornby have made a really good compromise, despite my prior concerns of the pan not being metal. It is strong plastic, sprung and looks fairly metallic - certainly would recommend other members not to worry about it at all - but in any case I see this model is nearly sold out everywhere anyway! Thanks to Gazwire for posting his pictures of weathering - I think I will do so as well.
  13. The model railway challenge recently on TV was very subtly supported by Bachmann and achieved viewing figures of over a million. If only 1% of that translated into sales you would probably be very happy. I will be interested to see how this program compares - hopefully not a boring documentary...
  14. We were offered this model by DJM as a crowdfunder and we signed up for it. This is 'our' project page and so thanks for your observations but we don't need it running down into the ground. Perhaps you can start your own thread about it?
  15. To the moderators - is it time to lock this thread and for a new one to be started? It was started up to attract interest and support for a DJM 92, however it seems to attract observers who (deliberately or not) are going to run it into the ground, while repeatedly going on about the competitor. Accurascale have made it clear that it is inappropriate and that they would like members not to do the same on their thread - this seems to have been respected.
  16. With the level of detailing on modern locos and high wage costs, I would have thought £30 would barely cover the cost of labour to assemble and test each unit - let alone all the parts. Unless you want a self assembly kit like a Vitrains model?
  17. If the UK government cannot find find a stop gap for the nuclear reactors that Hitachi and previously Eon refused to build, despite VERY generous fiscal guarantees underwritten by taxpayers money...will this new model be equipped with clockwork so that we can run it in the event of a power outage?
  18. I had a quick look around and wasn't sure the best way to do this from Railtec or Fox Transfers. However checking then on Shawpplan website - the nameplate for 92031 is not one he does. Can anyone recommend 3D printed nameplates?
  19. I would like that livery too but is there much interest out there for 92031? I am sure either manufaturer would do it if there were 100+ expressions of interest
  20. Thanks for your concerns as the 'crowdfunder' I do hope the project will succeed with my continued support and others like me, provided we see it safely through. I don't intend to post any further about this matter on your thread, which will take away from what sounds like it will be a good model and I hope Accurascale may consider other projects such as an 88, 81 etc. and perhaps will we see catenary a well?
  21. I have read those posts and they are interesting and exciting models upcoming. However I don't agree with either of your two statements - one of which is wrong - from the CAD file which has already been released and the other which explains quite clearly why he no longer posts on this forum. You can hardly blame me from wanting to protect my investment so far?
  22. As a DJM Class 92 crowdfunder this announcement actually makes me 'quite angry'. Accurascale must be well aware that there could be serious consequences not only to the manufacture but also to the pocket of the modellers who are trying to keep this project afloat. They are not doing the crowdfunders a favour at all if DJM 'goes down' and will seriously hurt the pockets of backers like myself to hundreds of pounds. Thanks Accurascale.
