  1. I came home to find my car badly damaged and a note left on my windscreen - the name and number were false. Fortunately my local postman saw the incident and photgraphed the car and number plate and I was able to claim directly from the 3rd party insurer. Just had the car back from the workshop and £1700 for repairs. We have a whip around every Christmas for his excellent service.
  2. My own experience Lost / damaged packages Royal Mail 3% Hermes 1% Turnaround for compensation claims Hermes within 14 days Royal Mail ..... on one occasion 6 weeks What I find particularly worrying about Royal Mail is that you could pay a premium for a service such as Special Delivery and if you lose your receipt you cannot track your item or make a claim. With Hermes every transaction is trackable online and all records kept for years. Also I have sent items that were overlong and Hermes still delivered them, albeit I had to pay an extra fee, I don't think you would get that service with Royal Mail
  3. Hornby if you are listening - please supply the heatshrink tubing with the next run of decoder!
  4. The idea is to use solar power to break down water into Hydrogen and Oxygen. However a similar process occurs naturally during photosynthesis in plants and biotechnologists are either looking at ways of engineering cells to split water into Hydrogen, or trying to find likely candidate microbes which already do this in nature. There are many advantages to using microbes instead of solar panels - they would be sustainable and recyclable to begin with and as a further bonus you could engineer them to use human faeces as a raw material - thus solving the problem of dealing with sewage - or even plastics. I would agree that it would seem more sense to use electric trains, however in rural areas the cost of installation and maintenance I imagine are prohibitive
  5. I'm not sure I understand what accusation I am supposed to be making but I know what to do as I'm not trawling through all those pages...! I'd rather redact that and have a cup of tea. Give me a moment...
  6. Hi Andy libel would a false statement that would be damaging to his reputation. I have simply restated what he has himself said earlier in this thread - so libel it is not. If you are referring to the factory - then it is not libel on my behalf to repeat what Dave has himself said. At best it would be hearsay and there is nothing wrong about that - again not libel. I am not trying to provoke anger. A lot of genuine concern is still going around about his business but in the end all businesses are founded on trust. If potential customers have doubts and can't afford the financial hit - don't invest. On my part I am taking 'the gamble' because I would like to see this model come to fruition and having spoken with Dave I feel I can trust that he will deliver. Importantly for me I felt that (at least while he was still on RMWeb) that Dave would listen to feedback about design issues. I appreciate the warning and I am sure if anything I had said was in any way libellous, Moderators would have moved in to take the post down. Hopefully we can move on to seeing a new EP. In either case if Dave no longer seems interested in posting - perhaps it was time this thread was locked down
  7. Yes but the alternative is to believe that Dave is being dishonest. In which case if you believe that is the case then don't put your money into this crowdfunder.
  8. I want to see a really nicely detailed Class 92. I've blindly given money to a total stranger who seems to be a very good artisan in OO gauge and I am happy to wait a year or 2. Apparently this is a lot more sensible than the way most countries are run. In order to keep reality knocking at my door, would someone kindly post some images of Class 92's, especially being dragged by diesels over unpowered sections. Please drip feed these images every one to two weeks. Thank you!
  9. jjb1970 - it is not the questions that were the problem. REMOVED BY THE AUTHOR -. I don't believe any of this is lies or made up, he was perhaps too honest with the RMWeb community. I would have understood if he had walked away from this project but he didn't. Yes I would have lost my money but I knew - we ALL knew what we were signing up to when we gambled our money on Dave and that is what crowdfunding ultimately is. On the other hand the intolerance and venom of some members in the context of the above has simply been inhuman, unkind and shameful trolling. Why would he want to read any more of that? Now the core community of supporters of the project will get updated by newsletter but I think this is a pity as this Class 92 topic benefitted greatly from his look in and of course there are new modellers and new potential customers coming on to the forum all the time.
  10. Having re read the newsletter I believe there would be no problem if I was to forward this to other members on this forum by 2nd class post, which I would send off mid week. However I would have to charge for the cost of my time and the paper, ink etc. and I am only taking Bitcoin at the moment
  11. Perhaps he suspects there is a mole ...you wouldn't be complaining if you had insider information 10 days ahead of the rest of the Stock Exchange...?
  12. Everything is to be in its correct place. This thread has always been members giving tips to each other. Otherwise the thread will just overflow with wholesalers offering pseudo-discount deals Anyway let's get back on track with this https://www.hattons.co.uk/211161/Atlas_Editions_4664102_Scania_R560_Lowloader_Eddie_Stobart_/StockDetail.aspx Atlas Editions Low loader (great lorry for transporting rolling stock) down from RRP £29 to £7 at Hattons a bargain!
  13. Sorry if this has been answered elswhere but I am trying to complete an 8 car rake with the western region Super detailed power cars. It seems this requires the slightly brighter tint of grey to be consistent with the power cars I have 12 coaches but getting any kind of consistency in the window tinting, lettering size and the livery is making me wonder if it is even possible. If I could get R4444 running number W41056 at least I would have a rake which would look consistent (if wrong perhaps) unfortunately can't find any to purchase. Anyone have two R4444 to swop for R4366 - I also have some other 125 coaches spare. Thanks in advance
  14. Yes to selling as a matched pair please. would it be risque to ask for a weathered version...?
  15. Re-lining those recessed doors is the reason that is putting me off buying!
  16. Can you upgrade the tooling with lighting? Will you give a discount for pre-orders
  17. £19.90 for 28 miles on the Gatwick Express from Victoria =£0.71/mile £17.00 for 36 miles on the Stansted Express from Liverpool Street =£0.48/mile £25.00 for 12 miles on the Heathrow Express from Paddington =£2.08/mile Hmmm and just for completeness, Bank to London City Airport £3.30 for 7 miles on the DLR = £0.47/mile of course us savvy Londoners don't actually use those services (except the DLR to City-which I would recommend is a great little airport!) BTW I once did some calculations on how much Uranium would be required to power the Stansted Express on a single journey and it came out as something like 0.03g . That works out about £30 but I can't be certain as every time I try to find out the price of enriched Uranium, I get a knock on the door by MI5!
  18. 1/ I think this thread should be merged with 'Those that fear coming to Australia' 2/ ...and 268 wagons! If you were modelling in Australia, that would be horribly expensive to buy and weather all those wagons!
  19. I have had the same problems - weeks of unreplied phone calls and emails. Further to recommendations on RMWeb - if you go to the website - cost up your items and delivery, send a cheque and return address within a few days the stuff arrives as if by magic. I guess that's the way he wants to run his business - the only mystery is why he doesn't just tell everyone to do that! After all - you advertise your email and phone number - customer would expect a response? Finally I must add that everything was perfect and met / exceeded expectations. I ordered a multi coloured etched name plate (Eastern for a Class 60) and it was really top quality.
  20. Let's hope they don't go extinct as they have produced some astounding models and since the troubles of 73 they have certainly improved customer service by offering body swops on the 68. I only wish they would make further runs of models such as the MRA wagon, which are now going for silly prices.
  21. Thanks I have been using the Wickes cork tiles at £10/sqm so this is a significant saving, easier to use
  22. Perhaps Bachmann can do the definitive Mk3 but it may be at £75 a coach?
  23. You don't pay a retainer to keep a researcher on your books full time - this is probably why these coaches are less costly to produce. You don't want to disclose the final product until general release - this is why the consumer gets a disappointment - possibly effecting sales. Otherwise we complain that manufacturers take so long and products cost so much.
  24. That price is looking very reasonable compared to the Hornby 87 and the Bachmann 90 but Dave, if you are reading this, I would like to get it all paid up and delivered before May 29th!
