  1. Scratching around the net, this suggestion came up. It seems to be a series of descriptions and/or reviews of the available kits of German loco depot and servicing facilities. Whether that is any help or not I don't know, but nothing else seemed to turn up. Of course you may need to read German to get the most out of them! https://www.vgbahn.shop/bahnbetriebswerke-teil-1
  2. Did a bit of ship stalking yesterday - Shoreham - Ryde - Yarmouth IoW - by bus x2, (£2 a time before my Railcard kicked in) train, ferry, bus x 4, ferry, train, train, train -
  3. Missed the first car as it surprised me motoring along the seafront. The tour seems to have taken place over four or five days, starting, I think, in Belgium, touring round southern England and participating in the Goodwood Revival event. The run along our seafront was on the final day, as they headed back to Europe. I have no idea of the marques or the ownerships.
  4. This shot shows what the LU map identifies as the Farringdon City Sidings, in the 2023 map layer. https://www.theundergroundmap.com/article.html?id=398&zoom=16&annum=2023 . My starting point has been Peckham Rye, near where I used to live, so the link will probably open there. Just head north and a bit west! In the 1900 layer they seem to be part of the LC&DR line. The layers use different maps at different magnifications. The initial layer doesn't have as much detail, but if you zoom in to enlarge the view it changes to a much more detailed map.
  5. As well as a few snaps here of Mayflower and Roger Hosking as they travelled back and forth through Hove yesterday, on the Goodwood Revival Tour, I also grabbed some shots of most of the Bentley Boys Tour that had also taken in the Goodwood Revival. They were passing along Seaford seafront on their way back to Belgium, in their expensive looking vintage cars. Maybe they will turn up in the RMweb 'Cars' thread. Has anyone told locomotive restorers that engines that are too shiny make life difficult for photographers, with reflections all over the place.
  6. The S&DJR had this smart saloon, with a variety of compartments, and as one might expect it is labelled TO BE RETURNED TO BATH. The right hand end compartment has double droplight doors - perhaps for luggage and portering staff? Would the number 6 be just a number in the general carriage numbering scheme, or would have it been in a separate saloon listing, which would imply they had or had had six or more saloons? This one was built at Highbridge in 1886 and lasted until August 1932. This up-market stock does seem more than tangential to the d299 title of this thread. Caption under the Cheddar strawberry siphons photo, shown previously, gives rabbits as another export from Mendip.
  7. Clearing out camera memory cards for a day out snapping next week, I came across this. So now you can park your buses on bridges with a clear conscience. I am sure that there may have been previous examples, but I don't think that I have inflicted this one on you before.
  8. Your time-warp could be extended further - back to the Festival of Britain Exhibition in 1951. A Buddicombe locomotive was borrowed from France to represent the type, as no British example was available in working condition, I believe. It was shedded at Bricklayers Arms for duration of the exhibition, with a British Railways crew. An acquaintance of ours asked me to find out the background to these two photos, the fireman being a relative of hers. RMweb as usual came up with the goods! We were pointed in the direction of at least one video of the loco in motion, but I can find it neither in my files or here on RMweb.
  9. An assortment of photos from my files - a few more can be found in my RMweb album. Please note that the logos used in some of the earlier snaps do not indicate official photos. It was just me trying to dress up my images. I've grown out of that now!
  10. Now the 313s are gone the Spinnaker is an old joke. So is the Peckham Rye one - 2007 - I have no idea what the station looks like now, although I believe it has had a major overhaul with a former rather large waiting room reinstated and the horrific external graffiti removed
  11. Just an exercise in Realtime Trains WTT reading! I am more interested in seeing/snapping PS Waverley which is cruising in various patterns around the central south coast, until 20th September. Memories of P & A Campbell trips from WSM to Barry in the early 60s.
  12. Paddington 8.15, Winchester pass 10.04, Chichester 11.12, dep 13.38, Littlehampton 13.49 dep 14.42., Hove / Preston Park 15.26 pass back at 15.51, Chichester 16.38 dep 18.14, Paddn 22.01
  13. That was a surprise! I don't know why, but I can't get enthusiastic about big engines, especially when they are off their original patches, even 'iconic' ones like this one.

  15. The S&DJR stopped all use of Burnham's jetty in 1888, having ceased regular ferry services to Cardiff in 1886. Its own ship Sherbro, bought in 1884, only saw regular ferry journeys from May to October that year. Previous ferries operated by the company had all been chartered. P&A Campbell's Waverley is not the Waverley shortly to be doing the rounds of the South Coast ports on either side of the Solent. This is a limited edition print by Audrey French of Waverley at Burnham jetty in 1908
  16. This is at the original resolution. Bear in mind that these exhibits are behind glass and in artificial lighting. I have used the color cast removal (Photoshop is American) tool, assuming that the LNWR van roof is white, not cream. This is a comparison of two small sections.
  17. Could it be the ED wagon in the centre of this display? I wouldn't know whether it is a B/L or not, or even the correct scale.
  18. This is the clearest and conveniently credits its collator, who credits Lens of Sutton as his source. The headgear suggests an Edwardian scene, although fashions may have changed slower on Mendip. Making the 'chip' baskets would be a doddle for someone with a 3D printer.
  19. If you are fruit carrying, are you putting in the racking that was fitted to carry the baskets and crates?
