A Scottish Branch Line Terminus: making a start in EM Gauge
Bungus the Fogeyman replied to rhnrhn's topic in Layout topics
Which bit of non GWR are you struggling with? There was also one on the up loop at Desborough until the early 80's when Desborough box went. Hope you're well mate Disgusting of Market Harborough -
Snape Station and Snape Maltings models
Bungus the Fogeyman replied to annette's topic in Modelling real locations
Might be able to help you slightly Annette. I did a model of Snape Maltings with a 'what if' slant to it.... I imagined that it was worked by diesel shunters until it closed in 1965 (yes, I know it closed before then).... Its now in the possession of Kevin Smith of Harlow MRC. I've attached a couple of pictures... The BTH type 1 was pressed into service at the last minute because both of my shunters had failed that day........ Disgusting of Market Harborough -
There were holding sidings at Kettering. There was a crossover at the south end of the station from the Up main to the Down slow and a couple of sidings ran off those to the end of platform 3/4 (the island platform!) IIRC. I can vaguely remember seeing a Brush 4 and a BRCW type 2 parked there when we went for a ride down to Bedford one Saturday in the late 60s (I was only about 8 at the time!). I'm not sure of their purpose- Kettering shed was responsible for locos for BSC Corby workings among others, but in diesel days, I believe Corby train engines stabled in Corby somewhere (though I could be wrong) Over to you Andy (Rangers)............. Oh and there's a cab ride video floating about from St Pancras to Market Harborough, where you can see stuff stabled at Kettering in the place I indicated. HTH Disgusting of Market Harborough

I've seen pictures of Class 25, 47 and 52 in Holmans Theres a pic of a Class 47 on a 3 wagon train on the Cornwall Railway Society website that looks eminently modellable (An LNER Hyfit with cabinets, a Lowfit with a compressor and a Vac fitted 16 tonner full of swarf)..... Have a rummage around on t'interweb for pictures of the Newcastle (Riverside) branch and also Brotton Coal Drops (on the line out to BSC Skinningrove)....I've thrown one in of Brotton (NMP) to start you off. I'm guessing that this would have been a Thornaby turn, though those more learned than me would put you right... Disgusting of Market Harborough

Peasevern Yard - 7mm BR Blue shunting layout
Bungus the Fogeyman replied to 37114's topic in Layout topics
Have you tried Minehead again Rob. I seem to remember Peafore yard being there in the past....... Disgusting of Market Harborough -
On the subject of Dapol 16 tonners- I found that on some of the ones I attempted to build that the baseplate had warped, probably due to the age of the mould. Simple answer- bang a Red Panda chassis under it and voila a vac-fitted 16 tonner! Use the old Airfix moulding for the unfitted stuff as the Span Yard man implied! Disgusting of Market Harborough

Any further progress Alan? I know you said that updates would be a bit 'feast or famine', but I'm really enjoying your layout progress! Disgusting of Market Harborough

Steve I believe the bottom one is Dowlais Cae Harris, The one above is Welshpool (Welshpool and Llanfair), the one above THAT I believe is Hele & Bradnich, the one above that is definitely Snape Maltings (I should know that one!) and the top one I haven't a clue!! Can I lob a spanner in the works Ralf. How about something like this, based on the Piano line, which featured in the Railway Modeller in the early 60s. The line running off the middle of the loop line goes into your fiddle yard. My daughter built something similar, called Stockerston, when she was ten!! We had a lot of fun with it although we only used 03 shunters on it, it did a few exhibitions too!! Just a thought Disgusting of Market Harborough

Just picked up on this one Alan, its a bit wonderful is this!! Noticed about 10 posts back that you have 3 wagons on the layout. A method I've used, with a reasonable degree of success, is to propel 2 wagons in and then swap them with any 2 wagons on the layout. There are 6 different combinations, so a throw of a dice would dictate which of the 6 'moves' is made. If you have 2 wagons in one siding and you have to get the one nearest the buffers you can get into a right b*gg*rs muddle trying to sort things out! Just a thought! Disgusting of Market Harborough

Don't tell me.......... unlike 11102/D2202, its not vacuum-fitted........ Disgusting of Market Harborough

White Swan (or possibly Lion) Yard
Bungus the Fogeyman replied to Paul C's topic in 2018 Cakebox Challenge
What Master Jones is trying to say Paul, is that by joining the EMGS you can then purchase RTR EM gauge points made by PECO therefore making the build no different to doing it in OO! The length of the point may be an issue but, if you're that keen on EM, you could easily build your own after all! Just a thought! Disusting of Market Harborough PS The factory scene looks good and the Middy idea sounds interesting too!
