    According to one NYMR passenger today, only people who remember steam trains should be allowed to work on preserved railways. Got very upset when I pointed out the huge flaw in that argument....

      ... keep them running. And it's not just steam-diesels are equally heritage as well.

       

      I may not have seen 95% of what I work with before it was preserved, but I have seen 100% of it need young blood to keep it running

      As a 19 y.o. volunteer (in NSW), it's that kind of attitude that drives people away. Myself and a friend of mine are two of the youngest mainline volunteers in the state, and some of the youngest with our respective organisations.

       

      If our generation gets turned away at the door, heritage will just collapse. So I didn't experience steam when it was in revenue service-doesn't mean I have any less a passion for restoring the locomotives and rollingstock, and helping to kee...
