  1. Inspired by Jeff's amazing drystone walls over on Kirby Luneside, I thought I'd have a go at a quicker, and less insane method... The substrate is 3mm foamex and scribed to represent the stones. Gaps have been carved out and smaller pieces cut and placed at the foot. I'm not happy with the painting, but I think the overall effect works. Also not happy with the static grass, and I think I'll overwork this again when properly dry And... if you're wondering, Flossy, the curious sheep was scratch made from foamex and cotton wool...
  2. I think I'll just stick to pushing my trains round with my hand and making "choo choo" noises...
  3. Like Derek has said, this has really bamboozled me, but looks pretty impressive
  4. Looks great Scott! Thanks for the step by steps - can't get enough of that myself
  5. Iain's mine exploration blog makes excellent reading. It really does. It seems he's taken his modelling sites offline and has 'retired' from the modelling game. Such a shame, but I can understand. Who it becomes a chore, and not fun anymore, that's when to give up.
  6. Well, I for one am looking forward to more ballasting pics. I'm also desperate to try making some fences
  7. Al, just one minor, minor point.... but wouldn't the flashing be under the tiles at the joints?...
  8. Have you any photographic evidence of this intriguing garden activity? (away from this thread obviously)
  9. Hope you're OK Jeff? I'm really enjoying watching your ballasting take care mate!
  10. Excellent idea Adrian (You're full of them!) I used a dart tip to scribe mine - having first run the sheet of plasticard through a vinyl plotter to draw out the position of the rivets Now on the lookout for old cogs - nothing like rivets to make those panels more authentic-looking!
  11. That's a pretty good wing wall, Scooby I must admit, Mr Robinson was the inspiration behind my scratch-building voyage. I'd been perfectly happy with printed brick paper until I saw Iain's blog...
  12. Like it Allan I've just started playing with Static grass. How did we ever manage without it?
  13. My jaw has literally dropped. Please, don't you dare stop posting pictures. The road is superb!
  14. It's like a lot of things, though eh? Back when people cared - things were fixed quicker Sometimes in modelling, theres's a tendency to go for over the top weathering and such - it might look interesting to model a broken down wall, but if there are sheep on those fells, the farmer will want to keep them off the railway lines!
  15. Just a thought - as superb as those walls are - would they have been as immaculate as that? What about a couple of dips - places where the walls had tumbled? Or back in the day, were the farmers on top of the game and kept the walls intact?

    A New Start

I'm just 8 again looking at that pontoon bridge. Oh man! I restocked later and had a decent Afrika Korps army... think I may even have a few bits in the loft still...

    A New Start

I had that Pontoon Bridge set, and indeed a lot of the other soldiers. Lost the lot in a house move when I was still young. Was absolutely gutted.
  18. Absolute world class modelling Adrian. Nothing more can be said!
  19. That's what the plot of land is betwixt shed and t'garage.... Arthur has been raking it over, but he just needs to nip off and buy some compost now...
  20. Might it have been that Arthur hadn't put the tools back in the shed?
  21. Beryl (last seen on Dover Priory, Platform 1) stopped at the gate...well she would have done, if Arthur had got his act together and put the new gate on... she couldn't help but wonder if she'd forgotten something... Whatever it was... she had a thought it could be in the back garden...
  22. I think it's the time of year for losing soldering irons. I can't find mine either!!
