    It was while at scout camp I mastered the Sheepshank.People say that Knot tying is a useless skill but try telling that to my bin bags.

      I can spot a badly tied re-threaded figure of eight from across a busy room - comes from working in climbing walls as an instructor.

      We had to master the bowline and barrel knot in the fire brigade, and it is still used in the training guide. Although I prefer a dolly knot personally.

      Bowlines are usefull for canoeing, for tying painters on.

      The truckers hitch is one that I need to master as a good releasable knot is essential when rafting boats together.

      Other usefull climbing ones are the larks foot and the clove hitch.
