  1. I didn't even recall the one at Matlock until I was looking up the correct title for the business as we always referred to it as "Ormes's". Derbyshire Record Office has all three towns listed as having an Orme's branch.
  2. All their other stuff is similarly photographed - sideways on.
  3. Yet another building completed, this time one for a corner site. R Orme & Co had stores in Bakewell and Matlock before selling out to "International". One of the Orme's travellers, Mr Moses Harrison lived in my childhood village and took my mum's order every other Monday. A van would deliver usually two boxes of groceries the following Thursday. Payment was taken on the next order day and the receipt would come with a penny stamp.
  4. I find the ones for acrylic nails good as they seem to have more bite. I too have nicely manicured nails!
  5. In my experience white metal kits need a lot of bodgery and filler! Just wait until you try a WM loco kit then you'll know what real frustration feels like!
  6. Another building added to Station Road. These are not the final positions of the buildings but put here to photograph. Earlier I said the 2mm thickness "card" was thin ply but it's not. Having cut some waist material it is thick card after all.
  7. View Advert The LMS Coach 1923-57 Essery & Jenkinson's LMS Coach - First Edition. In good condition with dust jacket Advertiser Rowsley17D Date 19/11/22 Price £10 Category Books
  8. Why not put it in the "Free to a Good Home" section?
  9. UNKNOWN MAKE 'N' GAUGE BR CLASS 27 DIESEL LOCOMOTIVE SPARES OR REPAIR BOXED CONDITION NON RUNNER - NEEDS ATTENTION SOLD AS SEEN Boxed: YES - WRONG TIRED BOX What's "Boxed Condition"?
  10. Another building completed except for the chimney pots which I shall only knock off if I put them on now.
  11. My current pet hates in the mangling of the English language is when sat is used instead of sitting, stood instead of standing returned back outside of.
  12. I gather some of the Mm items like decals are going to other suppliers, so it's best to order from them rather than use the Mm website.
  13. Have you address of 3D Shape, Kevin? Google only brings up educational sites. Thanks.
  14. I wouldn't use an iron if I was you!
  15. After cleaning the track all seems to be running smoothly after using the WD40 Contact Cleaner. We'll see how long it lasts. In the meantime, I bought Scalescenes' latest kit - Low Relief Shops on a Slope. They can built to go on the level too which is what I want. This set of buildings is not a high as the Low Relief High Street which I thought would overpower the backscene. Here is the first building up against the Scalescenes' Low Relief Terraced Houses for comparison purposes. I also got the Scaleglazing sets and card base layers from www.chrisinden.co.uk to see what they were like. The base layers are not cheap but are laser cut and the 2mm thickness layers are plywood, which means everything is very strong, accurate and makes building the kit much quicker.
  16. It's an N and OO gauge too! Must explain the price!
  17. The valve gear is made of quite soft metal and should easily be straightened. 5156 was named in 1936 but for your period it should be with red lining
  18. It does seem as though it's been in some very dusty areas: limestone dust or China clay?
  19. I've wondered how goods trains were dealt with a Buxton too. Mine run into either the carriage siding or platform 3 (No 6 in LMS times) and the station pilot takes the train to the goods yard, releasing the train loco to go to the shed and get turned. Working coal wagons for the coal yard on the lower level is even more complex as the head-shunt will only hold 5 wagons and an 0-6-0T and there's no run round in the coal yard. I use 2 tanks, one to push the 4/5 wagons down the gradient while another tank waits at the top of head-shunt, which reverses the wagons into the coal yard. Empties are dealt with by reversing the process.
  20. Olivia's has 3 new ones from £160.
  21. Thanks, Peter. I've many Scalescenes' kits and a number of their builder's yard textures.
  22. Nothing wrong with old school, Peter. My buildings too are card and stone/brick paper. In as light deviation to this I recently ordered the laser cut "card" from chrisinden.co.uk where the 2mm thick stuff is ply for the low relief buildings on a slope which will be built on the level! Whose "textures" are you using?
