  1. I’ve been watching to my niece’s and nephews who after they grow up a bit stop being interested in my layout. Now they are all clambering to have a look and have even asked if they can come to an exhibition with me. Out of 5 if even one gets interested because of this show it’s a win. Big James
  2. That’s the thing the whole time lords changing gender thing is a very very late edition to the canon. But comparing the series of doctor who to the new series of Star Trek goes to show that you can do wonders. Discovery is clever morally, ambiguous and is willing to take risks. The new series of dr who feels stodgy, boring and very predictable. I’m not gonna bother watching the rest of the series. And I can’t wait for 19th January to get my sci-fi fix when discovery returns Big James
  3. This is the thing with doctor who. The bbc doesn’t know what to do with it anymore. Do they give the show runners complete freedom and let it go down the Star Trek route of flair & style with some great story telling plus the arc in discovery was awesome or the Star Wars route by trying to tell complex social issues. But I don’t see improving as the bbc won’t admit they got it wrong so will just cancel it. Big James
  4. I watched tonight’s episode and if I’m honest I wish Mark Gatiss had got the job but he wants the bbc choice as he wouldn’t be easy to control like Chibnall will be. And the Chibnall episodes was the weakest episodes of new who look at dinosaurs on a spaceship and the power of three as prime examples. But Bradley Walsh is a highlight of a companion and I think I’ll continue watching just for him. Big James
  5. Didn’t know a P was trialed at Wadebridge. But I know one was trialled at Lyme Regis to replace the adams radial tanks. But it spread the track and was sent on its merry way back home. Big James
  6. Just watched the new series Jodie has potential to be a good doctor but the new episode has fallen down the same Chibnall route of slow writing and then having to quickly wrap it up. I will watch the rest of the series but it isn’t going on my most watch list unlike the previous seasons. Hopefully it’ll improve but right now I’m not holding my breath. Big James
  7. I remember hearing somewhere that an LMS princess had been scanned by Hornby. Don’t know if there’s much stock in the rumour but other then the Thompson Pacific’s there isn’t really a lot of big namers left post grouping to be done. Big James
  8. Sod’s law that my H2 come just as I was leaving for tonight’s away in Brighton. So won’t be able to play with her till Wednesday evening Big James
  9. If everyone else is wish listing in for a penny in for a pound. The most obvious win for Hornby world be an Urie H15 or S15 as these are the only big SR items left that isn’t niche and both lasted a long time. Or to complement the H I would say a D1/E1 I think the D will eventually come from the national collection in miniature. I doubt we will get a Q with the 700 only bring recently released and the fresh rerun of the Q1. Big James
  10. Just ordered one of these. It was a case of one of them now or never moments. As by the time I’ll get the coaches to order it again it most likely won’t be available. Big James
  11. I’ve once bought model railway stuff while on a pub crawl. I don’t think it counts though as it was from a model shop. It was a surprise waking up though with 2 new engines that I didn’t remember buying. My friends filled me in on the details though luckily. Big James
  12. Might be worth contacting DJM or rapido to see if you can set up crowd funding with them. I would jump at the chance to get a K class but I can c it being far down to he manufacturers priorities right now. Big James
  13. I’ve got all 3 of the original Kernow releases of the well tank they do run sweetley but hate uneven track work and require regular maintenance. Although at the moment shunting duties are allocated to the square splashed version and an adams B4 which also runs sweet as a nut. Big James
  14. I’ve got the Hornby 700 & adams radial tank and they are very good runners. the Hornby M7 is one of the best looking models I own. Big James
  15. Depending on the era you’ve got the Adams radial tank which is mixed traffic and the last one withdrawn that wasn’t on the line Regis branch was roughly 1930 plus for goods work you got the 700 class. A good book to try and get hold of is modelling the southern by Jeremy English it’s kinda turned into my go to guide for all things southern. Big James
  16. The main problem and the reasons hattons can sell so cheap is normally there is a discount if they buy a certain amount where as the small model shop will buy 5 but the bigger shop will buy 20 and get a discount which can then be passed onto the consumer but the small model shop doesn’t get the discount so it’s dearer for the consumer. But I always buy from invicta or KGR. And I like the feeling of going in and buying a loco or some other bits. It’s got so bad that the team invicta has now guessed when my wages are because I’m always in at roughly the same time every month and that a personal touch you don’t get when you buy over the internet. Big James
  17. I’ve worked for the majority of the major retailers for about 15 years and a manager for the last 10. It’s quite common for someone to find something that’s got damaged packaging just to ask for a discount. Big James
  18. I’m currently working on my BR(SR) south western layout but that hasn’t stopped me buying stock for my dream layout which is set on Romney Marsh but it’s years away but I decided to start getting stock while I could afford it and the models are available. But I’ve decided to scrub getting thing I would like and stick to things I need. Big James
  19. I remember am early controversy around the Hornby release of 34003 Plymouth because she lacked a speedometer. Turns out the very first rebuilt light Pacific’s didn’t reserve them. Which was 1957 so must’ve been about 1958 that they started to be fitted. Big James
  20. I’ve been reading this with interest I model the BR(SR) so you are more then welcome to tell me to Butt out. But as a suggestion why don’t the guys lobbying Hornby approach one of the crowdfunders about having a D20 done. Then if it sells out see about on of the other NER classes. Big James
  21. Makes me glad I purchased my green 10203 when I did. Big James
  22. Awesome thread mate I’ve been lurking and watching for a while. I’ve also got a model 34090 although in rebuilt form. Although I’m my research she seems to have earned the nickname sir useless missenden due to her poor steaming characteristics Big James
  23. We had this. My partners Mum who was living with us at the time run up quite a lot of debts and then moved to Spain without informing them. Plus didn’t tell us about the debts. We only found out when we started getting threatening letters and visit to the bailiffs. In the end we had to go up citizens advice to help us. They told us to get a photocopy of us living there, then find proof she was living in Spain and then post the whole lot of to the debters. Which we did. Seemed to sort the problem out as we never heard anything back about it ever again. Big James
  24. That picture looks amazing it. But to me it looks like an SR Z class and a USA tank had a baby. Big James
  25. I was intending to buy them individually but because it was the only thing I asked my partner for, for my birthday she rallied the family to raise the funds so I managed to purchase all 3 at once. If she hadn’t I wouldn’t have been able to them in one go. Big James
