  1. Bachmann Ransome Crane, Dapol Terrier. SECR D Class Worst pin ups come from Accurascale Dirty porn - anything from TMC in heavily weathered filters
  2. This premium economy is interesting - the users get light snack in place of a meal Is this actually Avanti in some way abolishing First Class on some services? Currently not all First Class trains attract a meal - it's breakfast and dinner (tea for us Northerners) - outside of that they throw a sandwich at you and offer you a drink. Weekends I believe all services are like this. The light refreshment sounds very much like the in between cooked meals service so effectively the same as premium economy. Take out the at seat service and tell the passengers to go to the buffet and hey presto staff savings on many services. Or am I just an enormous cynic and this is all about generating extra income
  3. I am without a layout at the moment with my OO stuff boxed as well. Been agonising over the N gauge stuff - on the one hand I have a lot of it, it is all the modern blue riband or Dapol models and you can do so much more with it - but I am worried about the size versus my eyesight (though I think poor lighting plays a major part in this). Whilst I was at Warley I did concentrate on the 2mm models and whilst Modbury and Brinklow displayed all that is good about 2mm or N, the others reminded me of my own limitations and why I moved to 4mm. But yet, I cannot begin to sell the core of my N gauge stuff - I tinker around the peripherals selling older coaches, HST and ER stock but keep the core stock. One think I do know, I don't need to buy any trains at present so I am not much use to Hattons even if I was quite excited by the generic 4 & 6 wheelers.
  4. Kernow can take a similar approach, slow burn on some items, others go at a faster pace. Hattons have clearly identified a big market for generic coaches and have got in quickly, perhaps Hornby have something planned for 2020 or someone else is doing something less generic but for Hattons it is a case of getting in early to steal a march on the competition that is coming. N gauge doesn't have that immediacy, there is no-one about to come in with another similar N gauge Garratt, looking on Ebay I would say N gauge prices are deflated at present and the focus of new entrants has been on modern trains over steam with only Sonic looking at a simple N gauge tank. KRModels might be offering the Fell in N, but it didn't get sufficient orders for GT3 so it may go the same way for the Fell. I've boxes and boxes of N gauge trains I don't know what to do with - I struggled to sell some of my locos a couple of years back at what I believed were fair prices for hardly used engines, i don't think the market has improved much if at all since then. Hattons haven't cancelled it but it might be sometime before it rises up the order.
  5. Or the A3/4, Gresley coaches and 66 are taking up all their attention - there is a lot of sunk cost in these models that needs repaying.
  6. The 11 cars appeared to be for the busier services - certainly Manchester as I've seen guards reject a train because it was 9 cars and the expected loading was for 11. Glasgow trains have been 9 cars I think - there will be some 11 cars on busier services but generally they are less filled than the Northwest services.
  7. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-50717886 More here - so how will this work on a peak hour train when normally all of second class is full. Hopefully premium comes off the first class area and not a reduction in second class. Or does second class become premium and as Mick intimates a return of third class - that would be similar to Costa and it's new cup size where prices remain similar but you get less for you money and they slot in a new size somewhere.
  8. I was surprised last night when an N gauge Life-Like SD7 that had been sat on my late father's layout with it's body off for quite a few years actually worked - I presumed it was broken, when he disposed of the rest of the stock in the summer it remained along with some wagons. It and the 11 wagons went onto Ebay last night. The narrow gauge models were the first models I got from him and I think I kept them whilst he was alive because there was some connection with childhood, but since his passing I have realised I have been keeping stuff that will never be used and needs to go.
  9. Not sure the drummer can spell either unless she is a fan of economics. They certainly have the early 1970s prog group vibe and facial gestures - the drummer couldn't look anymore non-plussed about the whole piece. I did wonder if they were actually listening to a lecture on their headphones whilst playing. Keyboard player needs to remember to do her nails before appearing on a video. However, the tune was good.
  10. Brake fluid sounds a bit risky - is that really ok?
  11. All but one of the 009 locos I own were received second hand in the mid 1970s when I got my first model railway. I ran them into the mid 80s then railways took a back seat for a few years. So they've spent a long time in their boxes as I couldn't bear to sell them. But these are very old models now, if I can get them running it is only to sell them - I am trying to clear down what I have not create more stress for myself. One of the other originals - a quarry shunter (you'll know the one) did come back to life as did a Roco IOW loco (but that was bought new in the 80s), Some of the Lilliput locos were ropy when I had them - you know stop or fast and nothing in between. The Zillertahn coaches and wagons are all good though so at the very least I can sell them, not sure of the demand now, there is a chap with some on Ebay and it's not attracting much interest.
  12. Don't compare it with the Hornby model - designed to a price. Compare it with the Rails Terrier at £110 and a similar level of fidelity at £110 - making the J72 £5 cheaper.
  13. They were designed like the Class 91s to go at 140 mph - but the track signalling would have to be significantly upgraded (to in cab signalling) for them to be able to travel above 125.
  14. Nice moving shots of the new livery from Mr Smile I quite like it.
  15. Can anyone advise how I clean these wheels. The loco is about 50 years old, I've a few of this age and showing similar issues with the wheels and no response from the motor - the locos have been unused for about 30 years. It looks like the contacts are not picking up any current due to the coating on the wheels. It may be that they are beyond rescue, but if I can breathe some life into them it would be nice to put them onto Ebay.
  16. You know Peco do some RTR that's a very close match to L&B now in 009. The station building looks nice, decent amount of space on the boards for scenery too.
  17. But such a sad sight of a superb engine reduced to hauling freight.
  18. Not sure about the voice effects but I like the locos.
  19. It will be, i wasnt sure if they left in a bit of buffet or not. I'm surprised that XC didn't put in a couple of longer stops en-route so that people could get out, stretch their legs, go to the loo and buy a drink at a buffet (like the old days) so they could also rip out the loos and luggage areas.
  20. The units are pretty distinctively Virgin on the inside, something that shows up well when you board a Cross Country and it looks like a poor man's Virgin train on the inside. But Avanti are going to fully refurbish the interiors so hopefully the cuffs will match the collars going forwards.
  21. Same as the shops on a Pendolino I imagine, but it wasn't somewhere i visited, once you got/get a seat on a Voyager you don't get up.
  22. That loco was the tipping point for Bachmann with Farish - once it came out and was compared with Dapol's output we had the beginning of an N gauge renaissance as Farish upped their game. Such a pity it's fallen back a little since then in terms of output though the chaps at RevolutioN has spurred a Modern Image revival, maybe their tie up with Sonic Models will see more steam outline if the 0-6-2 is anything to go by.
