Great photos. Did you have to book a seat in the RTO or RFO or was it first come first served? Did they check your ticket to make sure that you were in the correct class?
Thanks,
Bill
C7917 are there two position lights one above the other (above the left hand grey relay cabinet) or is it an optical illusion?
C7921 great view of Millerhill, was there any more inaccessible shed??
Thanks
Bill
J4447: I wonder how many times each day the gates were closed (to the road) to allow shunting? The lack of gates in J4448 surely violates safety rules?

I went to a meeting at RTC in about 1985 (not really railway related but 'industrial powder diffraction') and lunch was served on LMS branded crockery with magnificent LMS sterling silver cutlery. I wonder what happened to it??
Bill
Sorry, just catching up with this excellent thread: in picture 3 of post 3, it seems very late to see a GW (verandah) style brake van? And what sort of comments would you get at a show if you had a Shark ballast brake coupled to a Cargowagon ;-)
Bill
Did I read somewhere that the original colour of these vans was passenger crimson (rather than brown/bauxite)? Did they have a steam pipe? One survived at Eastleigh as an internal user for many years.
Bill
In the third link, B748809 was built at Swindon in 1951, presumably for Guinness traffic. What are the 'extra' end shackles each side of the screw coupling for?
Thanks,
Bill
Nice pictures, although I would not call 68s handsome... Do they have a nickname? In hawkingetippyd's post of 68012 at Mountsorrel, what is that thing that looks like a milk float in the background?
Thanks,
Bill
More daily treats, more questions from me... Post 5549, photo C 654: why does the near platform have a fixed distant under the starter, whereas the adjacent platform has a working distant (obviously 'off')? The first vehicle looks like a rare Mk1 corridor brake first.
Bill
Post 5416: C1205; lovely view. Was Dent 'box switched out as its signals always seem to be 'off' in photos?
C747: looks like a ventilated meat van after the Boplate.
Bill
Post 5367, photo J5340. You can see the parched grass and almost feel the heat of that unforgettable summer. The children pictured may well be grandparents by now...
Same post, J6539. Why has the destinations of the "Trains to..." beside the footbridge been blanked out?
Bill
Fascinating stuff... Maybe this explains their telegraphic code of Special Parcels Van (i.e.: not for general use and to be returned empty to Aylesbury).
Bill
Every day, more gems for our viewing delight...
J1404: unusual location for number and double-arrow symbol on a class 20?
J1376: great shot of 1960s cars, buses and fashions... Not to mention the concrete signal post.
Bill
Hi all,
I've posted this link before, but given this splendid news from Hornby, it seems appropriate to do so again... http://www.brdatabase.info/timelines.php?page=news (click on 1959 and read on...)
Thanks,
Bill
