  1. I sadly didn't see or ride behind it, but on occasions when the ECML was closed between Newcastle and Edinburgh, Deltic-hauled expresses were diverted via Carstairs, Beattock, Carlisle and Hexham. Bill
  2. Do you have to pay the entrance fee to 'Pecorama' to access the shop? Bill
  3. J0856: nice shot of anhydrite hoppers without their customary tarpaulins. I wonder if they dumped into the wagons or carried in a separate open or van? Bill
  4. Fantastic shots. Did the 'gong' sound continuously or did the guard 'ping' it as needed to warn of the slip's approach? Bill
  5. Hi all, Here are 66148 (front) and 66050 (rear), caught today (30 April 2107) at Dyce when working an engineering train from Elgin to Millerhill, with an impressive looking heavyweight crane. Thanks, Bill
  6. C3700: a classic everyday shot (from a mere 39 years ago) of a 4-Vep with a proper 77xx series unit number Note the 'BOMO' depot allocation sticker as well. In photo C3704, we see the famous orange curtains, were they being removed by that date? Bill
  7. Apart from Dave F's wonderful photos, the LT&SR (including even Fenchurch Street) seems to be under-photographed as are Essex coastal termini, such as Clacton. Bill
  8. If anyone cares, it was built as part of lot 3398 by Pressed Steel in 1961/2 to diagram 1/224, in what seems to be the very last batch of 'traditional' 12t vans. Diagram 224 (rather than 208 or 213) might have been allocated due to the improved Oleo buffers fitted from new? The present roof is most certainly not original! Bill
  9. Off topic, but did some batches of bulk grain wagons have the brake shoes on the outsides of the wheels? Not sure if they were vacuum fitted or if it was just for the hand-brake? Bill
  10. The Swayfield series are just glorious 'train in the landscape' views... Bill
  11. Nice shot. Those look like Girder wagons (or maybe even ex-GWR Pollens). Bill
  12. What are the wagons with bolsters and wheel-handbrakes at each end? Converted armour plates? Bill
  13. 66171 at Dyce on Sunday 19 March 2017 bound for Millerhill with empty autoballasters from a possession at Elgin.
  14. What was the anticipated number of 50s actually available on any given weekday (i.e.: how may would be undergoing scheduled maintenance or a works visit?). Thanks, Bill
  15. As you might guess, it appears to have been a crossing-keeper's cottage, although the bridge was built before 1892 (as per www.old-maps.co.uk site). Bill
  16. And, as Keith says, the stepped Garsdale cottages... http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/4701151 Bill
  17. And it's an impressively long train of 16 tonners for the Southern Region. Bill
  18. How was the brake van attached to an unfitted freight leaving a hump yard? Was the brake van run over the hump and (hopefully gently) attached or would the train shunt forward to attach the van? Thanks, Bill
  19. Post 9219, photo J2731: blue Deltic + semaphore signals... Yes please!! Bill
  20. Were those the ones with the rather mysterious TDB 'traffic-departmental' numbers? Bill
  21. Great shot, any idea where? 80137 was a Southern loco for most of its life: http://www.brdatabase.info/locoqry.php?action=locodata&type=S&id=80137&loco=80137 Bill
  22. Shirebrook West also used pairs of 08s in tandem, possibly for trip working as well as shunting? Bill
  23. Warships (class 42s) were used on Waterloo to Weymouth TPOs in the late 1960s but pictures seem to be scarce... Bill
