Post 8668, photo C4828: nice flares
Post 8669: what a tasty selection The 16t minerals in J2053 look remarkably clean and unrusty.
Merry Christmas!
Bill
Dave -- thanks for posting our daily treat of these fantastic photos in 2016 C7211 has bonus content of a 37 + brake van and (probably) an 08 in the far distance
Merry Christmas and all the best for 2017,
Bill
What a fabulous set of pictures of what seems likes yesterday on the ECML -- renumbered 47s on air-conditioned Mk2s -- but is actually 40 years ago In J4281 (also in C2198 in the opposite direction), the footbridge severely hinders the visibility of the bracket signal! What was it like at night??

Talking of Europe, here is how the French do it for LGVs: catenary masts before track... https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=cat%C3%A9naire+du+midi&espv=2&biw=1600&bih=780&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjDkriZu7rQAhUhCsAKHTqHD_4QsAQIKQ#imgrc=dvf8AXCKV1asKM%3A

Indeed. Is there any particular reason why it is installed here, rather than a 'to the right' trap? The rails in the siding seem quite shiny, does anybody know what it is used for? Does the point on the down main (behind the '15' sign) have white-painted rails or is it some type of alloy??
Thanks,
Bill
More wonderful shots Dave but the date of July 1972 is surely too early for photo C1715 if the 37 is renumbered? Looks like an interesting manoeuvre with the loco sandwiched between coaches and a DMU.
Best regards,
Bill
Every day a delicious feast of pictures... Post 7852, photo C4171. I didn't know that the AM4s (304s) had unit number shown in the former head-codes. The first '0' in 040 is of course actually an 'O' for a through service to the Southern Region Post 7854, photo C3419. Is that a demonntable tank in siding in the background?
Bill
Post 7767, photo J1274: fantastic shot. What are the wagons to the left of the trestle wagon (behind the LMS-design guards van)? Note the unusual grey shade of the farthest right-hand mineral wagon in the same rake.
Thanks,
Bill
I must have seen hundreds if not thousands of views of the west end of Waverley, but never from the angle of C6427. When did the push + pull 27 workings end? If C6835 was a 'where is it?' quiz, I wouldn't get it!
Thanks,
Bill
Hi Tony,
OMG (as they didn't say in 1973), that's it! The sheer number of duties is amazing, 28 for Allerton for example. This is such a valuable document, I wonder if you would be kind enough to scan all of it?
Thanks again,
Bill
Tony: please can you post a couple of scan if possible. Was this the one that had 'ratings' of how likely it was you could see the number of a shunter?
Bill
Thanks Robert, yet another fantastic shot. Maybe it shows how unobservant I am/was, but I never noticed green buffer stops before. Not to divert the thread, but was it common to see 'regional colours' for these?
Bill
Classic! This brings back memories of poring over OS maps and trying to work out where some of the out-based shunters on non-passenger routes actually were... I seem to recall a possibly even earlier version than the one that Russ shows. It was very crudely produced in 'landscape' format (about 10 cm high and 20 cm wide) and photocopied from a typewritten original rather than printed. I may have got it at a Derby Works or Eastleigh Works open day?
Bill
How does spot hiring work? Do (say) DB phone Freightliner and say 'can we borrow a loco for the day?' or is it done via a broker or...? Any idea how much it costs??
Thanks,
Bill
