Weathered 1980s Blue - Locos and Stock
SouthernBlue80s replied to SouthernBlue80s's topic in Weathering, Painting & Transfers
Thanks Wayne 47010 47324 Work in progress is - 40012 - very happy with the front ends now but the sides need work. I found it difficult to remove the factory weathering on this with out removing the blue paint, so I am having to work around that. Lots more work to be done on this. 37284 - In new out of the box. I am not convinced on the rail blue colour on this so might be heavily weathered as they were in south wales 45036 - Needs a flush front conversion, renumbering and weathering so a slow burn project 25201 - Still not too happy with it. Might clean what I can off and start again. 73124 - Is having a full respray by a fellow RMwebber, being renumbered into 73120 and I will do a light weathering job on her as they were quite clean as a rule (I might start a separate thread on that with a combination of our pictures) Before As she stands now HEA in Bauxite is mid way through weathering as well. I will probably tweak the two rail freight ones as well and picture them as a set Cheers Steve -

I think that pic is worthy of this thread http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/67-how-realistic-are-your-models-photo-challenge/page-236&do=findComment&comment=3247418 -
Sorry to say Chris I can not for the life of me remember.

I like the slightly different levels/layers you have created here, it creates much interest for the eye. Even the back scene is layered. Cheers Steve

How realistic are your models? Photo challenge.

My final two that spring to mind. I think things need to be shot in more natural light however Mr Waverly West and others are spot on when it comes to this. -

I like the rust on the wagon on that first shot, it looks just right. -

I have limited space. So here are a few pictures of my set up. The stock is stored underneath on storage trays I have built in the four cabinets that the layout is on.

Thanks for the informative answer. Now I know

I saw 47324 in 1981 on a freight from Dover so that's why I chose to have her on the layout with those headcode boxes in that green primer colour. My four 47s are Heljan. Overall I prefer the latest Bachmann version....however I can not get my head around the rivets around the front windows and the wrong fuel tanks, so I have reluctantly steered clear. I know we are both hoping, like others, for a flush fronted 45 from Bachmann. Look forward to seeing your next layout Rob

These were before my time. (My decade of spotting and being into the railways in a big way was 1980 to 1990) I know nothing about them. I had a quick skim read through this http://www.railcar.co.uk/type/blue-pullman/rundown-withdrawal They are fine looking train. It seems like they did not last long. Why were they withdrawn?

I am trying to capture that 80s atmosphere that we all remember Steve. I find it hard to get good pictures with the camera phone but quite pleased with the 47324 ones. I can picture myself walking down the side of that in 1982 to get the number on a Sunday afternoon at some quiet stabling point somewhere

Take it easy Andy. I am sure the Mojo will return All the best Steve

Got some better light, worked out how to use the focus on my camera phone and took a few pictures of some of the detail and hopefully got some clearer pics. Looking forward to getting my class 37s finished at some point. Faded gronk at the fuel point with rubbish on the track. Two 47s after fueling

Weathered 1980s Blue - Locos and Stock
SouthernBlue80s replied to SouthernBlue80s's topic in Weathering, Painting & Transfers
I have 37284 to weather and 37034 needs a few tweaks - so I hope to post pictures up of the two together. A few more pictures of them in situ, weathered 31s on vans, a lightly weathered 47285 and two HEAs. -

Hello Andy. Funny you should post that, as I have just sent off the body shell for a respray. She will be renumbered as 73120 and I will re-weather her. Will post pictures up when all is finished. Lots more work done on 40012 now as well. -

I have finished changing the stabling point. Now with an old corrugated hut and lots of weeds. The ballast has been filled in to give that flatter more oily feel to the ground cover. Work in progress trying to get the ground texture right Finished With 47324 stabled

Thanks mate Took a break, you know how it is, and then I suddenly found a burst of enthusiasm. Is yours complete now or are there still tweaks to be done? Steve

Hi Jeff thanks for the kind words. Will try and find time on Wednesday to get some pictures up. My real bug bear with it, is that I would have liked to use Peco bullhead on it. But when I built it that was not available and I didn´t know much if anything about hand built track. So the track looks a bit clumsy to me. However I am generally pleased with the feel of it but I am looking to improve some areas, such as the one above. This is something I did on a photoplank with bullhead, which I prefer. Perhaps one day I might pull it all up and put the bullhead down. Then again perhaps I am not that brave All the best Steve
