  1. A while back I hit the vote button at the top of this thread which I didn´t want to do. As it seems silly to vote for your own thread. Is there anyway I can un-vote my own thread if you see what I mean
  2. Nice weathering. I have enjoyed this thread Best wishes Steve
  3. Hi Rob. All improved it has been all knocked back including the panels to give them that more primery feel. As you can see I have put some new pictures up after todays work. I have started on the lemon yellow front of 73124. to make it look non lemon....so far so good, we shall see!
  4. Thanks Rob. I am going to aim to improve things on it today. I think the headcode panel looks the part - but is a bit dark for my liking. My inspiration came from this picture. https://www.flickr.com/photos/rivercider/8067657718/in/photolist-dhURyS-dmDq9d-gRRZ4G-7y14bG-goHqmq-gMzEqz-5yh7xi-duZ3jh-pRY27q-9bj1P8-bkm9BD-4pLyk2-8o4qic-Crk5Nq-dNh2Gb-hsEtp5-aKFEtK-bKQNEi-dXiLLM-cZfUmj-gjMHRc-dMVpBu-7Eh63h-6d8Kpy-a2Bt6g-7EWUmg-dy1rM5-cZcpuo-cU2hpm-bkm4UB-dmDmZ6-88LY6P-e7Wm5A-7xM5AX-dxDk42-dF6Q6c-df8te9-4ojhJo-afvac7-5moTbg-9q19gw-bUuerZ-hq7cGj-bkm2nk-6d9fM1-gi2yq2-6d8Kc9-JvbPK1-bkmcA8-7xZ5Nj
  5. I had a connection to the area in the 1980s, so will be interested to see this one develop. Cheers Steve
  6. The first pass of 47324. This has been cobbled together out of lots of bits. An old Heljan 47 shell was renumbered, new hand rails made all round bits of glazing were found. Thanks again to Ken to sending me three sets of windscreens of from which I managed to salvage two complete windscreens. I made the center headcode panels from scratch found a spare chassis on ebay and had just enough buffer beam detail kicking about to add to that. It was two coats of railmatch framedirt on the chassis and then weathered with powders and paints. I always weather the cab areas first. As they need minimal powders and then mask them off and then go for the body first with paints then with powders. Given it a bit more work so here are some new pictures ]
  7. I have 31270 and 31111 converted to 31117. So far so good, fingers crossed. I have put a lot of work into them so I hope it does not all go waste one day. we shall see. I have always liked Peafore Yard as a layout
  8. I really like the photographs you took, so thanks for taking the time to scan them. I would love to model the location exactly as is, as that is more the way I am. But this is a small layout, I have such limited space, so I am just using the pictures for inspiration.
  9. Again A regular Hattons customer here. Same problems, same email as others have received, order was not showing on the site but is now showing as OPEN, money has been taken. So I guess all companies have glitches. So no problem, it what it is ...as long as it is resolved in a few days and does not become their standard operating procedure. I have just checked and part of my order was Peco bullhead track - which now shows that they can not obtain any more of this stock. So we shall see how long it takes for them to sort this out
  10. A few nice pictures here chaps http://www.2d53.co.uk/colwynbay/Goods.htm
  11. Jinty - I would have liked to have modeled Colwyn bay exactly as it was, however I do not have the room. So I am just using it as an inspirational start point and therefore came up with the name Conway Goods. However - I have just noticed that I said Conway goods was my inspiration in my first post when I meant Colwyn bay so thanks for pointing that out. Cheers Steve
  12. This layout is a pleasure to look at
  13. CDF - I brush painted them. I can use an airbrush, but I have very limited space at this time in life, so do not own one and so I have had to do what I can with paint and powders. I will be interested to see how badly or well 73124 turns out. Good to know you had success with 37284 using powders. Cheers Steve
  14. Scratch built tunnel portal now finished. It will need weathering Baseboard painted First turnout built - Courtesy of Hayfield of this parish. The two turnouts are the only things I will not be building as it is not worth me embarking on that steep learning curve for just two of them. Better I let a man who knows his stuff to turn two out for me. These will match the Peco bullhead rail that will be with me very soon. Cheers Steve Inspiration gained from here Picture taken by and posted on RMweb PGH
  15. Thanks for the positive coments 47076 Improved. No wicker cliffs in these I have spent quite a bit of time reworking the dogfish as well. Dapol´s 73124 in totaly the wrong blue and yellow should be with me soon. Ideally the thing would need respraying. So I am going to see if I can get the colours looking half decent and weathered using paint and powders. We shall see!
  16. Looking good. I like the wall and the tunnel portal
  17. Ah the post industrial hell - A sea of cookie cutter housing, Asda, Macdonalds interspersed with light industrial units. Were you in Swindon when the works were still active?
  18. Hi CDF Well I tried all sorts of methods some which worked well. But I have settled on this. I paint everything underframe buffers and wheels in Railmatch frame dirt. I then use weathering powders various dirty brown rusty mixes and then black and/or rust to pick out details, The buffer shanks are the last thing I do. Pictures such as the ones I post are useful as they show up all the bad bits that you miss with the naked eye and it allows you to go back over and improve things. For example I have tweaked 47076 after putting the pictures up on this thread. Hope this helps Cheers Steve
  19. Rob I see you are in Swindon, never seen wicker cliffs eh! Although I think perhaps I should move the wicker cliffs for my next snaps
  20. My railway decade when I was a young man was the 1980s So TOPS BR blue is my thing. Before I make the trip to Barrow Hill is there a reasonable amount of BR blue locomotives to be seen there? As I have looked on their website and it is unclear as to what there will be to see
  21. Forgot about this one I posted further back in the thread https://www.flickr.com/photos/oldbuzzard/6152608544/in/album-72157627543457489/
  22. Yes very. There was a 31 that made it to Stewart's Lane on Royal Train duties but apart from that in the 80s I can not think of another one.
