  1. I have removed the wall behind the stabling point and I am going to try to make the ground cover look bit more oily and flat, more like this. https://www.flickr.com/photos/137553628@N02/30389822222/in/pool-3180088@N21/ I hope to get it finished next week As it was before I started hacking things about, with 56001 stabled I will stick up an after picture once I am done.
  2. I have the 00 Dapol 73124 which I have lightly weathered. And as most of you know it is in the wrong colour. The ends I have managed to get away from being too lemon yellow...but the sides are the wrong blue end of. I have tried living with it...but it bothers me. I do not have the kit or space to do re-sprays. Can someone point me in the direction of someone that does resprays on here please The loco as it stands. Thanks Steve
  3. Just caught up with this thread. One of my favourite layouts on here. Being a BR blue man myself. Lots for the eye to look at. All the best Steve
  4. Great looking photo plank. I did something with a shed in the background to photograph mine too. Cheers Steve
  5. 31117 and 31270 double heading on vans past the yard Class 50037 stabled A few HTVs and HEAs kicking about Cheers Steve
  6. Thanks Tom. I will aim to get some different locos and wagons out over the next few days and get some pictures
  7. Got this layout out again, turned it to face the opposite way and did lots of tweaking and fiddling and took some pictures. My start point story A Southern or Western region yard, depicted in 1980 - 1985. Despite being a shadow of its former self, it still sees a bit of activity. Classes 31, 33, 47 and 56 are the usual visitors. Occasionally something else makes an appearance. Various mixed goods a little parcel traffic and some permanent way trains use the yard. The stabling point can often be empty but at a weekend sometimes up to four locos can be found there, usually WR examples but with visitors. Cross country services, usually comprising of MK1 stock pass regularly along with other traffic such as oil. The stabling/fuel point closed in 1996 post nationalisation but the yard, often with a track tamper or few permanent way wagons continued up to 2000. The whole area became totally derelict and was turned into a housing estate in 2004. Various brown paper envelopes changed hands and quite pleasant overpriced housing of middling construction quality now occupies the site. A few of the permanent way team work for Network rail and remember the yard well. Many of the drivers have passed away but the odd one or two are still to be found in a cab of a 66. The Locos 08375 25201 31117 31270 33053 33062 37034 37253 40012 47010 47076 47285 47324 47436 50037 56001 56040 73122 Pictures Hope you like my journey into early/mid 80s grubby BR blue that I remember so well as a young man. Cheers Steve
  8. Interesting thread What year were the 37s on the Galley Hill tanks? Anyone got an old map of the rail layout in that area?
  9. First pass on 40012. More work to be done. The pictures I find really help as they highlight the bits that need work. Cheers Steve
  10. My experiences. Worked a treat on a Heljan 47, I struggled with it on a Bachmann 40.
  11. I tend to go for the duller Autumn colours and mix my own blends. And I use Noch and Polak.
  12. I was there at the same time Rob. Perhaps we walked past each other...you never know!
  13. Yes I totally agree. I went a bit over the top with the silver. I have just zipped through Paul Bartlett´s site to have a look. The main ones I need to change and make mucky again I feel are the BGs and some of the mineral wagons.
  14. Thanks Chris. I only have camera phone so the pictures do not really show the details. Hopefully this thread inspires a few rather like many threads of other peoples work on RM web inspires me. When I was young in the early 80s I lived in Kent and the furthest place I could afford to get to for not much money was Reading. So I spent many a summers day on Reading station and had a real soft spot for western region 47 namers as they also used to turn up on the one working into East Kent during the day that was not 73 or 33 hauled to Dover Town Yard. One of the first 47s I ever saw was 47077 North Star. So I guess that is my favourite - at some point I am going to model here and have her sat next 076. Cheers Steve I made handrails for her, put etched plates on and made the domino headcodes
  15. A few pics of how the Dapol 73 stands now. (A non fluffy version) I didn't think weathering would work rectifying the colour but wanted to give it a try. The front is not too bad. With a wash of Humbrol Matt 62 and weathering powders the lemon yellow is far less lemon and far warmer. However when placed next another loco it still looks more lemony. But quite happy with it The Blue. Well I did not want to weather it too much, as 73s were often quite cleanish. So worked all the dirt into the nooks and cranies. I knocked back the blue with a lighter powder and I experimented with a green as well to see if I could knock back the blue and get it closer to rail blue....but it did not work too well. As a stand alone loco - I am quite happy with it. Placed next to others it shows quite how wrong the blue is, too noticeable for me. So in my book it needs a respray, which is what I thought it would need but quite happy I spent time mucking about with it to see what I could do. Next to a weathered 50 for comparison Cheers Steve
  16. Probably....having looked at the pic the buffers do look a bit fluffy. I have just had a look at the loco...and you know what almost invisible to human eye is some dust/fluff on the buffers, so now removed.
  17. Hi Andy. I have weathered it but I am not happy with the colour still. Your post has prompted me to get it out and have one more bash right now. I will post some pictures up soon. But my gut feel is that it will need a respray. Cheers Steve
