Weathered 1980s Blue - Locos and Stock
SouthernBlue80s replied to SouthernBlue80s's topic in Weathering, Painting & Transfers
Hi CDF Well I tried all sorts of methods some which worked well. But I have settled on this. I paint everything underframe buffers and wheels in Railmatch frame dirt. I then use weathering powders various dirty brown rusty mixes and then black and/or rust to pick out details, The buffer shanks are the last thing I do. Pictures such as the ones I post are useful as they show up all the bad bits that you miss with the naked eye and it allows you to go back over and improve things. For example I have tweaked 47076 after putting the pictures up on this thread. Hope this helps Cheers Steve -

Yes very. There was a 31 that made it to Stewart's Lane on Royal Train duties but apart from that in the 80s I can not think of another one. -

What lengths are these C&L point kits
SouthernBlue80s replied to SouthernBlue80s's topic in Handbuilt Track & Templot
It is a bit of a mine field for uninitiated. So thank you all very much for your responses It is appreciated, -
Perhaps a regular user of their products can help me As I am totally new to the world of building track I want to order two point kits from C&L. They are listed here http://www.finescale.org.uk/index.php?route=product/category&path=346_375_377_378 1.Can someone tell me please, what is the difference in overall lengths between A4, A5, B6, B7, B8, B9 2.Can you buy point kits that use bullhead rail as I can not see any on their site? 3. I want to buy 4 lengths of bull head flex rail like this to match the points. http://www.finescale.org.uk/index.php?route=product/product&path=346_375_377_379&product_id=12267 It says this flexi track has thick sleepers - are the point kits above with thin or thick sleepers. Sorry if these are obvious questions, but this is my first foray into this world. Thanks Steve

Some of my Permanent way wagons, the dogfish need a bit more work on them. ...and Dan go for it...get stuck in Next up worn looking un-refurbished class 50 (You have to excuse it being stuck on the front of two dutch liveried wagons) -
Totally agree Rob. And the the mainline one might have been good in its day...but as some one said further up the thread it is a poor misshapen model by today s standards.

Exactly..better get going on my conversion of 45036 then. I seem to have opened up a bit of discussion here....which is good. As hopefully someone from Bachmann will see this thread (I changed the thread title early on as I thought I had put class 45 in it and realised I had not)

I am starting on my new layout, Quite excited about it all. Colwyn bay goods yard is my inspiration. It will be fairly small with Peco bullhead track. Started on the tunnel entrance today. PGH´s photographs are great inspiration. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/uploads/monthly_08_2015/post-14569-0-06564000-1438426623.jpg Base board cover now made...it will live under the bed Tunnel becoming more complete Will put up more pics once the track is down

I did have Steve. But Photobucket dumped all the pictures. So I just have this running at the moment. Although doing this thread and getting some nice feed back has given me inspiration to build another small layout. So thanks. -
Agree Move to one side that I want a few, from an objective point of view I get the feeling they are looking a gift horse in the mouth. Perhaps I am wrong.

Yes I saw that one on Hattons 210 is too steep for me. They obviously have the tooling for them still I guess? They were a big part of the BR blue scene, it seems to be a gap that has not been filled. I think the fact only one available is a limited edition and is 210 speaks volumes. I want a couple of run of the mill examples....we shall see come Christmas/new year as to what is planned for 2018. If not I might bite the bullet and attempt to convert 45036
-
I so want Bachmann to produce one of these. I would buy two straight off. http://petertandy.co.uk/45069_mv_27286.jpg Just thought I would get that off my chest... If they did do you think it would be a big seller?

I love that water tank. Great modeling Steve
