Ratio kitbuilt loco
Londontram replied to Isambard Smith's topic in Modelling Questions, Help and Tips
Both the Johnson 4-4-0 and the 2-4-0 are Handsom locos and look splendid in Midland red. For a bit of variety the 4-4-0 was also used by the Midland & Great Northern Railway and would look very nice in a M&GNR mustard yellow Here's the photos Right way up Plus a 2-4-0 1400 class and a 4-4-0 in M&GNR yellow -

Hornby Tornado Express train set.
Londontram replied to gnairn23's topic in Modelling Questions, Help and Tips
My son has the locomotive (lives at the other end of the country) is that the one where the rear loco bogie is a false flangless cast lump so it can go round model layout curves? -
Brilliant work and what a smashing little loco, you've managed to capture all the charicture of the original in the model, definitely one to be proud of.

Hello guys and gals, can any body who might have one tell me the diameter of the boiler on the parrallel boiler Patriot model, the older model if possible, I might be able to use one for a modelling project I'm thinking about but wanted to know it's suitable before sourcing a body or loco fit only for spares off ebay Thanks in advance Steve

Brilliant jobs, proper modeling well done

I got really excited when I saw you wanted to build a 323 class then my hopes were dashed. The Caledonian 323 class 0-6-0 saddle tank, a propper loco.

Inset track and cobblestones Southern England
Londontram replied to TomJ's topic in Modelling Questions, Help and Tips
One would think that having most likely been built in the 19th or early 20th century that stone sets/cobbles would be used regardless of the geographical availability of suitable materials. Don't forget the railways revolutionised the industrial face of the country giving the ability to bring building materials from any where. If it was to be based from the mid 20th century onwards tarmac or concrete would start making an appearance. Very often the area between the track and say about a foot either side would still be stone sets for ease of removal for track maintenance. Again as time moved on this may have become completely tarmaced for cost and convenience as tarmac can fairly easally remove should the need arise very often the tarmac was laid directly over the stone sets and in later life pot holes in the tarmac would often expose the stone sets underneath. Hope this gives you something to think about. -
Very much so thanks the Hornby river bridge comes in at 334mm long a difference of 79mm a usefull overlap The intention is to use one of the stone effect plasticard sheets to give the bridge a better stone finish this can also be used to extend the ends by about 40mm to match the length of the trusses, replace the rather toy like looking stone balastrade with these mesh effect trusses and maybe using the same stone effect plasticard sheet to build small turrets at either end.
-
I must admit I'm most impressed with that bridge. Is it possible to let me know what length it is. I model the Caledonian so these lattice trusses are seen on the Caley as well and I was wondering as I have one of the old Hornby stone bridges in stock if the trusses might be able to replace the stone balastrade on the Hornby bridge? Here's the bridge I'm referring too

Cheap and Cheerful 6-wheeled GWR Coach
Londontram replied to RosiesBoss's topic in Modifying & Detailing RTR stock
Word of warning the style of paneling on LNWR carriages is like no other and is near impossible to make from cutting and shutting any RTR carriages. I'm not sure how the Ratio LNWR carriages lend themselves to converting to 6 wheelers one would have to look and see. -
Cheap and Cheerful 6-wheeled GWR Coach
Londontram replied to RosiesBoss's topic in Modifying & Detailing RTR stock
I've got so many bashed 6 wheelers that after years of trying to find a happy compramises I've taken what some people might see as the cowards way out and for the sake of reliable running I now build all my six wheelers with a flangless center axle and am in the process of converting all existing stock as well. I'm aware of it obviously but with all the under frame detail and the foot boards this type of carriage often have its hard to see this detail and when running see it even less. -

Locomotive 'open cab' canvas weather covers
Londontram replied to greggieboy's topic in Modelling Questions, Help and Tips
No if you read my response on the other thread I said "you MIGHT have got a better response if you had posted it here" not that I had told you post it here I was trying to be helpfull and not ordering you to! -
Every time I come onto this site I get a pop up blocking the screen which I have to go through a long winded process to get rid of. I'm a model railway fan I like model railways so funny enough I come on here to peruse my interest. I dont want to come on here and buy Nike trainers or Quallcast lawn mowers and now face a full interagation on what my advertising preferences are. Can any one block this please!

You might find you get a better response if this had been posted in modeling questions help and tips. I make my own and I believe most other people also make there own from either rolled up tissue paper or very fine cloth (silk maybe) You might find unless it's a coloured silk or simular an opened out one won't survive the stress and riggers of layout life as the loco and tender will turn to a much greater degree in model form than in real life. -
Now Cypherman you should know by now not to dangle these carrots in front of me now as to the Garrett. Maybe maybe not you'd need some 9F chassis which would need to be motorised and an awfull lot of plasticard. You might be better of doing the LMS Bayer Garet with a couple of Triang 2-6-2 tank loco chassis with the rear bogies removed. The chassis already comes motorised and if you cross wire them it would never stall. You'd still have to pretty much scratch build the body though. But then you might be able to use a Mainline parallel boiler Royal Scot body for the center section. Maybe two of these would be a good chassis choose
