  1. Heres the report on the Beeb. Alaska Airlines placed restrictions on the Boeing plane involved in a dramatic mid-air blowout after pressurisation warnings in the days before Friday's incident, investigators say. The jet had been prevented from making long-haul flights over water, said Jennifer Homendy of the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
  2. Its reported on BBC that the plane has had least 2 depressurisation incidents in the last couple of weeks and the plane has been ‘diagrammed’ not to fly over sea while the problems is resolved. I wonder if the passengers were aware of this restriction? And what about the crew, what did they know? What a state of affairs, almost criminal in my eyes.
  3. @Barry O Sorry about you news and mood, hope it’s a good match.
  4. Life Begins at the Hop. XTC
  5. Nothing else to report so Goodnight, Robert
  6. Evening, A bit under par today, a case of the trots followed by a migraine which may have been related. Anyway felling a bit better know but a bit tired. SWMBO is also a bit under the weather due to sniffles and having mil and nephews around really doesn’t help. Mum sent a picture of yesterdays view from her veranda and fortunately the water has receded and the (tow?) path is now passable. Newark Castle is just behind the trees in the top right hand side of the picture.
  7. This signage at my local football club always make smile as it reminds me of ‘Trotters Independent Traders, New York, Paris and Peckham’. They are one of the clubs main sponsors.
  8. You missed out Chrissie Hynde from The Pretenders. She actually has the same birthday as me, another piece of useless information brought to you in association with Old Speckled Hen.
  9. When we went the station at Wassen was closed because their timetable was so intense there were no paths for local stopping train. There was a parallel bus service up to Goschenen which we used for our return. I’m not sure if the station is open or is due to reopen due to more paths being available due to most trains now taking the base tunnel route. Robert
  10. Evening All, With mil on top form it’s been a challenging day and yes I have had telesales on the phone today but fortunately no ‘ourselves’ or ‘yourselves’. It was interesting though, you want to open an account, UK based team, you want to complain, we’ll let’s just say ‘non Uk’ based. After tea a couple of downbeat messages arrived. Old lady across the road has been taken into hospital with a suspected DVT. Friend at the MRC, the one my age with dementia, has had his mum pass away. Mums sent a picture of her flat in the centre of Newark. The Trent has burst its banks and Mum has water lapping up the front of her flat. Fortunately the living room floor is about two feet above ground level, there being a couple of steps up to her flat. Nevertheless a not a pleasant situation for an 85 year old. Mum also informed me that sisters car needs a new gearbox at £3k, ouch! I thought I was has a bad day, puts things into perspective. A bit of good news, Syd seems a bit happier and he and Hovis had a good run around the garden together. Goodnight.
  11. What about for example when telesales ring up and saying ‘yourselves’ instead of ‘you’ and ‘ourselves’ instead of ‘us’. I hope no ones call today I’m in one of those moods.😡 If fact I’m just about to flip my lid
  12. That story made it across here. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/world-us-canada-67875488
  13. Was going to add this picture, weather looks quite dramatic but it’s really been rather a pleasant day. Locals say weather in Penistone a ‘top coyt colder than Barnsley’. The viaduct carries the Penistone line (Barnsley to Huddersfield) towards Denby Dale ( famous for its pies) and then on to Huddersfield. Right, Goodnight.
  14. Evening All, Banished to the spare bedroom as nephews and Sydney are here for an extended sleepover as bil and sil are having a long weekend away in Poland. Hovis has joined me which is nice as she’s usually a ‘mummy’s girl’ and hopefully Sydney will feel happier having SWMBO’s and the boys full attention. I do think he feels ‘less special’ now that we have Hovis but obviously we still love and care for him just the same. At home he shares the house with two cats and think he rather enjoyed sleep overs with us, being the only non human in the house but obviously things have changed. It may be that as he has grown up he doesn’t need our attention as much but it is still sad to see. As he’s not an alpha male he does allow himself to pushed around by Hovis so we try to compensate by feeding and fussing him before Hovis. Enough twaddle about Sydney, I’ve probably bored you senseless. Not much else to say other than we walked into Penistone on the pavements of the main roads as we wanted to call at fil’s and didn’t want to arrive covered in mud. This route was much longer than our usual cross country route and ended up catching the bus home as it was 4.00pm by the time we said our goodbyes and there are almost no streetlights on the five mile journey home. Ok, I’ve really bored you enough now, goodnight, Robert
  15. Great pictures and certainly brings back memories. We regularly holiday in Interlaken/Wilderswil (for the Schynige Platte Bahn) and have visited most of the places on your itinerary and have had stayed twice in Andermatt. We walked down from Andermatt all the way to Wassen and spent a couple of hours taking pictures and watching the trains go by and got talking to an enthusiast from the Czech Republic whilst in the church yard there.
  16. The comment below is interesting, saying that it is noticeable that the locomotives stop smoking when they leave the tunnel implying that the smoke is due to incomplete combustion of the fuel. Does seem a logical explanation.
  17. Evening All, Another day of the same, dog walking and paperwork. As for tomorrow, who knows? I’ll leave it there. Goodnight Robert
  18. No, no , no need for the scepticism, some of the money has been well spent here (Barnsley) but I’m not sure how much is left now.
  19. Not the same class of loco but similar source and period. If you watch it to the end there are three locomotives banking, I wouldn’t want to be in charge of them.
  20. And ugly! Another plane featuring a prone pilot but not experimental. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henschel_Hs_132 Though it’s not mentioned in the text, I’m sure I’ve read that the Soviets did text fly one.
  21. Double rainbow last year. Rainbow’s end, MRC building but no pot of gold!
  22. Early Afternoon All. HAPPY NEW YEAR to all and hopefully all with health issues see an improvement. Been busy of late, bookwork, transporting furniture down to Newark and a trip to the charity shop. Internet/wifi/ipad very slow so work and visits to here have been frustrated. No new year’s resolutions made here. Football match this afternoon but will be going on my own, no Mum or nephew. Better get a move on. Robert
  23. Buffalo Soldier. Bob Marley and the Wailers.
  24. But how is she this morning?
