  1. Morning All, Bright and Sunny here, we’ll the weather anyway so perhaps a day to tackle the garage? We could get all the stuff out, erect some shelves and the but stuf back. But first the dogs need attention. Just five more minutes and I’ll get up. Later folks.
  2. Two guitars clash. Stiff Little Fingers
  3. Evening All, Busy day rearranging deck chairs and now I’m done fore. Sydneys’s here for his 2week summer vacation and as usual he’s full of beans. Goodnight All

  5. Happy bunny here, first match of new season. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/66345517
  6. I don’t think the station is ‘original’ as I don’t think the line ever had a passenger service. The Wikipedia entry says the station, ‘Rockingham’, was opened by Barnsley council in the Elsecar Heritage Centre which are former NCB workshops. The station building itself looks a little odd and I seem to remember when Barnsley Exchange closed it was to be rebuilt as part of the future heritage line. Must admit it’s not clear what’s being referred to.
  7. Missed this picture out, the station building. The excavation work was o the left but wondering if more extensive work was being carried out at the far side of the station? May be going back next week as in the antiques centre there was a decent selection of railway books and as I walked there I thought another visit in the car would be ‘necessary’.
  8. I think this is as close as you’re going to get. https://www.barnsleychronicle.com/article/24332/closed-railway-given-fresh-hope-of-revival I think Covid and the lack of progress with the level crossing are factors. There was some evidence of excavation work having been done near the footbridge but vey little evidence of work aimed at restoring the railway. By the looks of the photo the station area was laid on a concrete pad. The article says the council is ‘working with the trustees’ of the railway and the railway still owns some stock. These we’re the only items of stock to be seen and I believe they are owned by the council.Behind the brake van is evidence of the excavation work, the footbridge and in the distance the engine shed.
  9. Evening All, Hope the Birthday was a good un @DaveF and you get your sinusitis sorted. Nothing constructive done here today so I’ll bid you all a good night. Robert
  10. Not the usual pictures on here but walked from Cortonwood shopping centre to Elsecar today and the sight of the dormant heritage railway was very depressing. All the track and pw has been removed from Elsecar station site and this is the view towards Cortonwood.
  11. Evening All, Better day than usual, no mil, nephews, bil or sil involved, any connection? Went to Cortonwood retail park for some groceries but before we went in the shops we walked along the canal side to Elsecar and in particular Elsecar Heritage Centre. Hovis enjoyed her walk and had a cuppa in one of the cafes there. I had a look in the antiques shop there and bought a couple of book though not antiques, published in 2004. Some kit built lorries, again not antiques, looked quite good and going for next to nothing. I was tempted but wasn’t sure I could get them back to the car without damaging them. Perhaps another trip is needed and if necessary I may suggest mil would like it there. Probably about 3miles in total so not far but enjoyable. One thing that was enjoyable to see was the state of the heritage railway that once ran from the heritage centre towards the shopping centre at Cortonwood. The track is still in situ from Cortonwood up to the heritage centre but all the track in the station area has been removed and the site looks bleak. The line never actually reached the shopping centre due to a level crossing needing installing which was at a ‘difficult’ road junction. Derek, I ask you. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-66396605 On that thought I’ll bid you all a goodnight.
  12. Anyone fancy a slice with their bedtime cuppa? I can give it up honest (sniff), anytime (sniff), its just I don’t want to. (Sniff)
  13. I saw Peter a month or so ago and he seems well on himself. i think since you last saw him he’s had another hip replacement and i dont think its been as successful as his first. Despite beginning to show his age he’s still very active and has a 3D printing machine. I think he must be in his 90’s now and seen him on his scooter on his way to town for his lunch regularly.
  14. He never seems to be phased by anything, with a great ‘can do attitude’ and enthusiasm even when he seems made up with a cold ( which seems to be quite often).Must admit I’ve not seen him for a couple of months which is a bit remiss of me but I’ve been waiting for an invite to a running session which usually includes (little) Peter. I’ll give him a couple of weeks and get in touch. He not building a bridge for you is he, one of his specialities I believe? I know he’s been printing Ffestiniog railway England engines in 16mm and did a reduced one for me for 009 to fit on an Ibertren chassis. unfortunately I’ve not got any left but said if I got the Fleischmann chassis that’s similar he’d ‘redraw’ the ‘artwork’ to suit. At our exhibition last year we had a disaster with cancellations and he came and gave me a had with my 009 layout and an improvised 45mm narrow gauge train set which was assembled to fit the space in the hall. In fact I remember him bringing his prototype 009 England which we ran throughout the weekend. Unfortunately no pictures.
  15. Went to a greasy spoon place for lunch, just outside the steelworks opposite Fox Valley. Swmbo had a small breakfast but didnt want the beans so the woman at the counter said she’d give me extra chips. Probably thinking of the environmental implications of giving me swmbo’s beans.
  16. Morning All, From a wet but not windy South Yorkshire. Couldn’t sleep so got up and just finished breakfast. A day with the nephews, Syd and probably mil becons but as yet we’ve not decided what this will entail. As bil and sil don’t get much time for Syd we like to take him on a decent walk whenever we have him but with the weather and others who do not appreciate that kind of pastime I’m not sure what’s going to happen. A day to go with the flow me thinks. Regards to all and especially sundry.
  17. Evening All, After taking hovis for a decent walk in the morning we did some sorting out in the garage which included taking some pictures for items to be disposed of via the bay. After tea I went to the MRC and got rid of a bit more stuff there and on returning found that SWMBO had already listed some of the items. Things ARE moving. Upsizing or downsizing, I think I’ll stay where I am. Upsizing, more space for other people tat. Down sizing, it will take forever knowing how long it takes for ‘us’ to get things moving. Anyway Goodnight
  18. Glad to hear that the ankle’s not spoiling your cruise.
  19. Morning All. White Rabbits
  20. And @Coombe Barton can work in the ONS or Dept of Culture.
  21. I know where there’s an old tent, will that do?
  22. Evening All, A busyish day here and I think the penny has dropped, no amount of shuffling deck chairs is going to solve the issue. Only problem is, we need to avoid‘headless chicken’ reaction. Not gonna get a lot done tomorrow (actually today as it’s past midnight) and Wednesday as we been informed that our crèche facilities will be required. Even managed a bit of the m word, was going to do a bit more but painting is, by order of SWMBO, is an outside activity and its been raining steadily since tea. Till later Amigos, Goodnight
  23. Get it in freecycle, life’s too short.
