  1. Sorted now. A very kind and helpful RM Web member is sending me a window. John
  2. Many thanks. I will check these out. John
  3. Good morning to all, Does anyone know where I could obtain glazing for a Bachmann Mk1 SK in blue and grey please? i don’t imagine that it is something Bachmann would offer as spares. I damaged one of the windows when I took the coach apart to fit passengers... Many thanks John
  4. Good morning, I would recommend an Iwata Eclipse which is double action and gravity fed. Good for general weathering, small detail and painting small items. Picked this up for about £120. A reasonable compressor can be found for about the same. i started with a Badger which sucked paint from a jar underneath. I found that a lot of paint was required or it would lose suction. The Eclipse can be loaded with a very small quantity of paint and works well. Stick to using enamel paint thinned with white spirit and cleaning is minimal and easy. Hope this helps. John
  5. Hi Alex/ Cav, Are the BBAs still available to pre order please? I have already pre ordered some Railfreight black and red ones from Rails but would also like some plain brown ones. Your website says sold out. Best wishes John

    Heljan Class 27

Have ordered 27033 with HA logo as I wasn’t sure of the factory weathering on the Eastfield one. If I hear of anyone successfully removing the heavy weathering from the yellow ends, I might buy this one as well... John

    Heljan Class 27

I have just received the email from Rails of Sheffield announcing the arrival of the Class 27. Their website now shows 27030 in weathered condition. It looks okay but a bit heavy on the yellow ends. Wanted one with an ED Westie but somewhat put off by the weathering, I guess that the ends could be cleaned up or as a last resort, repainted. John
  8. I agree with the Scottish 47/4 in LL with Westie on the side to compliment my excellent 47593 Galloway Princess renumbered by ABC Workshops. How about a yellow 75 ton diesel crane to the same standard as the new steam one please... John
  9. Very much looking forward to my sound fitted 66756 in the near future. In the meantime, Merry Christmas and best wishes for 2020 to all you diesel and electric era modellers. John
  10. Great photos. The GM switcher looks huge when you stand beside it but they look small on their home territory alongside SD70Ms and GE 9-44CWs etc. i remember watching coal trains at Lambert’s Point In Norfolk Virginia back in 1997. A pair of Norfolk Southern SD40-2s were pushing 70 loaded TopGon hoppers up a curved gradient onto the ship loading pier. Full power and at walking pace, the noise was deafening.... Will we see the 59/2s in Freightliner livery in the near future? John
  11. I have successfully removed running numbers from a Bachmann blue and grey SK using Brasso... I managed to get a small blob of super glue on the body when re securing a piece of the glazing. After gently scraping off the glue, I used Brasso on cotton buds to polish out remaining scratches. It leaves a very shiny finish without penetrating through the blue paint if care is taken. I then polished suitable areas for the ScotRail branding to be applied and removed the coach numbers using the same technique. I have just applied the new decals and will seal and dull with a matt varnish spray. John
  12. You are right. The logo is too small. It appears to be about 2/3 of the height of the loco side when it should be about 3/4. Hopefully the correct size of logo will be applied if Hornby are able to sort out. John
  13. Does anyone have a spare Motorail logo board from a Bachmann Car Flat 38-901 or 38-902 please? This is the small white board with Motorail and BR arrows logo located mid way on each side of the car flat. Happy to pay a suitable amount plus postage. Many thanks John
  14. Hi Dan, I have weathered a number of Bachmann Class 37s and always find that an enjoyable and satisfying task. A bit daunting the first time at the thought of throwing paint at a new model. I use a combination of airbrush, thinned washes, dry brushing and powders. have finally found pics of Land Rover 110 vehicles on Warwells. They have chains and small triangular chocs against the wheels. Will make these up from thin aluminium strip and plastic card. Keep up the good work. John
  15. Hi Dan, Good weathering job on 37046. I also like your Warwells with the Land Rover FC101s on. Working on a MoD train myself at the moment with Airfix Scorpions and Oxford FC101s. Have you used anything other than chains to secure the vehicles on the Warwell decks? Wheel chocs etc? Can’t find a lot of photos for reference. Best wishes John
  16. Many thanks for your replies. These are very much on the back burner for a while. Too many unfinished projects and not enough time or daylight. John
  17. Just placed my pre order with Rails for BBA 3 packs A and B. Really looking forward to these. I built 3 Cambrian ones which are heavily reinforced with steel and aluminium underneath to weight and strengthen so I guess that having done that a RTR one would come along... John
  18. Thank you. Some excellent photos there for reference. Unfortunately none with the Network Rail logos, although the long blue stripe with no logo is growing on me... Your yellow JJAs look great. Best wishes John
  19. Good evening to all, i really like the current Network Rail autoballasters (HQA) in the original Railtrack colours with the long blue patches over the Railtrack wording and the addition of small Network Rail logos on white background. I was looking to rework my set of 5 JJAs into this livery but then discovered that the HQA is a different beast with different bogies. Does anyone know if JJAs carried this livery please? I have scoured the internet and can only find them with the blue patch but no NR logos or the later one with the side panels painted yellow and with black NR logos. Alternatively, does anyone produce the Axle-Motion III bogies in kit form which could be used to convert JJA to HQA please? Many thanks John
  20. These price rises are insane. I have just found the receipt for a parcel I received from Hattons only a few years ago. Bachmann Class 37 37506 and six Railfreight red BAA wagons. All for less than £160... John
  21. Very much a personal choice of what works for you. i thin down Humbrol enamel with white spirit in a plastic lid from a fizzy drink bottle and stir it thoroughly with a wooden coffee stirring stick. I go through a lot of these so thankfully they are easily obtainable. Once satisfied with the consistency, a pippet dropper is used to transfer the paint into the airbrush. This is also good for removing any excess paint prior to changing colour etc. The Eclipse is very easy to clean and only requires removal of the needle occasionally. Blowing through with white spirit is essential when changing colour or when session finished, Also, I recommend pulling the needle fully back and running a white spirit soaked cotton bud around the nozzle. This clears any paint away from the small air passages which surround the nozzle. Happy weathering. John
  22. I had an Iwata NEO and have graduated on to an Iwata Eclipse and have never had any problems with white spirit affecting any of the internal seals. John
  23. I always brush paint the roof with Humbrol enamel prior to airbrushing. As the roof is usually slightly shiny to start with, this gives a good key for the weathering and saves a lot of airbrush time in building up coats, a mix of Matt black and a suitable brown / grey mix usually works. John
  24. I always use Humbrol enamels for weathering locomotives, coaches and wagons. Easily thinned to the correct consistency with bog standard white spirit. Advantages are that any unwanted overspray can be removed with a cotton bud dipped in white spirit and the airbrush is easily cleaned by blowing through white spirit. I tried acrylics but found that they clogged the airbrush and required a special cleaner. colour mixes of 33 Matt Black, 62 Matt Leather and 121 Matt Pale Stone give realistic underframe dirt. John
